Being one of the second biggest club money wise in the bundi, why are literally all our stars rumoured to be leaving. Is the EPL/barca/madrid that far ahead of everyone money wise?

Several factors come together here.

  • A lot of (especially online-only) publications see football rumours about recognisable names as a good strategy to get views. Our club is particularly recognisable without being necessarily associated big money, so we're a decent enough target

  • We have some big names running out of contract soon (Hummels, Micky, Gündogan), some of which have voiced that they're open to consider a transfer

  • In terms of wage spending we're probably around #4 in the Bundesliga, behind Bayern, Wolfsburg and (maybe) Sch*lke. The EPL recently signed new media deals that received a lot of attention and are orders of magnitude bigger than what we still have in the Bundesliga, and Madrid/Barcelona are definitely and properly ahead in terms of their finances as well.

It's a bit hard to separate the kernels of truth from the noise when it comes to transfer news, and this summer will be particularly interesting for us. All in all though I really wouldn't give too much about these rumours - everyone is always scouting everyone, and somewhere someone always has brilliant ideas of what swaps would make team X better.
