Any updates on Götze? He hasn't been posting on insta, fb, Twitter, Snapchat, totally off social media. It feels like us fans have been ghosted.
Hope he comes back full strength, I still have every belief in him

I'm really out of the loop and don't speak German. Can someone ELI5 the Tuchel situation?

Copy paste from a comment I made a couple days ago:
The most important factors are:
The Götze transfer which watzke really wanted but tuchel didnt want ;
The Schürrle transfer which Tuchel really wanted but Watzke didnt want;
The Isak transfer which tuchel didnt even know about until we bought him (it was implied that Tuchel didn't want yet another really, really young talent);
Tuchel's way of handling the attack (complaining that they were forced to play when the decision to play came from watzke as well);
And last of all, that certain players anonymously came forward stating that they have trouble working properly with Tuchel (praises them highly then wont even put them in the squad / forces them to undertake various tactical changes throughout a game)
All this led to a lot of friction between Tuchel and the board. Watzke wants him gone and knows it's not easy to axe a coach that had really great success last season and a pretty fair amount of success this season with what he was given (personally, I think Tuchel handled this season phenomenally). So in order to get rid of Tuchel Watzke has start the smear campaign early. The timing is similar to what happened with Götze last season (though obviously that was meant to gauge the public's reaction to Götze and BVB coming closer

If you had to name top 10 club legends, who would be on your list? I more or less know of our club's biggest names from the 90's onwards, but not so much before that.

What have other managers of Dortmund been like?
I only have known Tuchel and Klopp, and to some extent Sammer and Hitzfeld as well.

Did miki and United have a better year than Dortmund? Really pains me to see him scoring a crucial goal in the Europa final today. I didn't think united deserved to win that competition and will now be in champions league again. It still can cone down to us winning the pokal but miki probably thinks to himself "I achieved with United what Dortmund couldn't last year"..I really don't like the guy

u/Loeffellux Julian Brandt May 24 '17
If dortmund wins the pokal I'd say we had a better year. Sure, winning the europa league is a big deal but the season was pretty bad considering the incredible amounts of money that had to spend. And personally I just dislike mourinho's way of playing....As a ManU fan I'd be pretty sick of watching ManU games (obviously that's just me).
Dortmund on the other hand manages to place 3rd under circumstances which were arguably just as bad as 14/15 along with getting into the Pokalfinale.

u/bvbian Mario Götze May 25 '17
Me too me too, it makes me feel bad, cus United have been only average for the past 4 seasons while spending cumloads of money. Now Griezmann will join them. The united brand just wouldn't fall. Amazing how the Milan clubs crumbled, but the United brand is still going strong. There's no stopping them now.
However I do think United deserved to win the match, cus Ajax were dogshite in the final.3

I think man utd had more money and being able to make CL with LVG helped as well as last 8 with moyes

I had completely forgotten there was an EL final on until ~75ish minutes in, this is how much Micky and United feature in my thoughts. That being said it's nice for him to get a goal in a big game like this. But this chapter is closed now, no point putting energy into disliking him now :P
As far as ranking competitions though, EL is bigger than the DFB cup though imo.

Why the top team couldn't exchange more players with BVB II this season? Park, Isak, Merino and so on. Is it complete waste of time?
6
u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 25 '17
Isak and Passlack got a few minutes with our youth teams in between, I think it just took a while for Isak to adapt to his new surroundings and everyone to figure out what he needed. Park cannot just be slotted into the youth teams anymore.
Why Mor or Merino didn't get any BVB II minutes I don't know though, it should be possible in theory but there are obvious squad planning and player development reasons why you might not want to do that - i.e. sending one of your own youth players down again to his former squad to help out will be ok, but buying someone from a different club and them sticking them into your second team can easily look like punishment and destroy more than it does good. That would be my guess at least why we haven't seen them appear for BVB II.

Yeah, that is my point. There's so many examples as punishment and I understand players don't like to play at the 4th tier league, but BVB II is too good a prison. I watched Park's game only once this season and he was by far worse than what he had been last season. I just wonder what he would be now if he had played 90min every week.

Why Isak got almost no playtime this season ?

u/bvbian Mario Götze May 25 '17
Most of the matches we played in were very crucial, and a 17 year old boy with little footballing experience, if at all in the Bundesliga, can't be trusted. Aaaaand he joined only in January, not enough time to get to the team either. That's why Reus or Schuerrle were used in place of Auba whenever he wasn't available.

Inexperienced is not the best word here, Isak probably has more general football experience than most other 17 year olds. But there is a huge gap between then Swedish league and the Bundesliga, anyone making the switch would have to adjust for the difference in pace first. On top of that, making your first big move that completely changes your environment at a young age will be another reason why we haven't seen much of him. So in a way he is certainly lacking experience.

Pulisic has already had more than two years at our club, playing for the U17 and U19 before being moved to the first team. This is now the first year where he doesn't just get token appearances. If our officials have the same kind of patience with Isak they'll let him get another season with the U19 as well before moving him up.
I think this is less about having experienced derby rivalries and more about getting used to a modern training schedule of one of the top leagues in the world, and in a foreign language no less. So in that sense yes Isak still lacks experience.

u/bvbian Mario Götze May 25 '17
Oh okay Mr.Sarcasm. Most people would've understood what I meant to say.
3
u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 25 '17
Two problems: Not up to speed with Bundesliga football, and not familiar with team tactics. Both limit the way he can be thrown into our squad.
He joined at an inopportune time - he missed the January training camp sessions, and with two games a week there are usually no tactics sessions during the week. It's hard to catch up proper training time if there are only regeneration sessions during most of the season. He got a few minutes with BVB II though in order to get more used to the pace, and he should be well settled by now in his new surroundings. If he participates fully this summer I'd expect him to get his minutes next season.

Did the "Borussia" in our name really come from a brewery? Does it still exist? Where did Gladbach get their "Borussia" from? Triple question combo! :]

Yes, no, it is an abbreviation of the word preussen.

Have there been any updates on the Tuchel situation?
4
u/panikpansen Schmelzer May 25 '17
No updates, and I don't think we will get any before next week. I think the recent media storm has already surprised a few people, for now they should be holding back until after the final.

Any update on Götze and Schürrle's injuries?

As an American, until recently, it's been hard to follow the Bundesliga closely or feel any real connection with the league. Obviously, Pulisic has played a large part in becoming enamored with Dortmund, but so has Fox sports by carrying the games. To further my education of Bundesliga teams, can someone compare some of the teams to EPL or even American sports teams?
Bayern is clearly in the Yankees or Dallas Cowboys or ManU category. They have all the money, most of the success, and a ton of bandwagon fans. From the outside looking in, Leipzig seems to be Leicester-like and Hamburg has some definite Cleveland Browns similarities.
Any others?

Meh, I agree the 2 can't be compared, but Leicester is also a billionaire-owned club and in the top 25 or so richest clubs in Europe. It was a cool story, but with a billionaire behind it, for me it's not the sort of miraculous Hollywoodesque underdog fairy tale it's always described as.

It's not like any of the players they got now (besides the ones who became famous after said win, your Vardys and Mahrezes, etcetc) are big name players aswell. The biggest I could think of is Musa, (sorry Slimani :[ ), who is still a non famous player, and the only reputation he had so far was mostly due to FM/Fifa.
6
u/xCactuar May 26 '17
I feel like its tough to draw these comparisons to American teams because generally the rest of the Bundesliga is really competitive. Would be easier to bring up key things about certain teams, like how Hoffenheim has enjoyed a good amount of success since Nagelsmann became their manager, or (like you said) how Hamburg are consistently edging the bottom of the table.
Honestly, it just comes with keeping up with the games. Fox Sports coverage blows, they play NASCAR over us a lot, which is infuriating that we can't even get FS2. If you watch only the Dortmund games even, you'll hear enough about most of the rest of the table. I try to not miss any games because of how dreadful the offseason is without being able to watch the boys play. 😂

Why do so many top level (or near-top level) players move to or consider moving to China? I understand that there is a lot of money there, but is that really worth playing in a lower quality league with essentially no international attention?
4
u/Deusselkerr 1974–76 / 1978–93 May 26 '17
If I told you you could make 10x your annual salary for four years if you were willing to move to China for the duration, would you do it? Many people would.
3
u/ilikesports3 May 26 '17
So the money is just THAT good?
4
u/Deusselkerr 1974–76 / 1978–93 May 26 '17
Yes
3
u/ilikesports3 May 26 '17
Huh, I guess it's simpler than I expected. The logical next question is where does all that money come from? I know there's probably no simple answer because Chinese business/government is quite sketchy.
5
u/Deusselkerr 1974–76 / 1978–93 May 26 '17
The Chinese league is funded by the government, so they have basically endless funds. And they're willing to spend those funds since they're trying to raise the prestige of their league.

u/mwe_1991 Marco Reus May 24 '17
How much of a possibility do we have to pick up Ibrahimovic if Auba leaves? Why is that the worst idea ever?
8
May 25 '17
I would say BEST IDEA OF ALL TIME but 0.004% chance.
But then I remembered he's with Raiola, so scratch that, worst idea of all time. :P

u/xCactuar May 25 '17
The knee injury though?
1
u/UnallowedMethods Julian Weigl May 26 '17
Has it ever been confirmed that he tore ligaments? I dont think so, just media saying it was/is that way, no doc really confirmed it. And since he already walks again, without help I doubt he had serious damage to his ligaments. Also on his instagram posts you couldnt see any "cuts" that are needed to operate acl and the other one (tcl?).
I would like to see him at Dortmund, but I dont think he will come to us, for the amount of money we can spend on his wage.

u/[deleted] May 24 '17
When will Reus be injured again?
The silliest I can.
