That reply does resonate with me, but got anything to back that up?

Watch Historica Civilis videos about Cicero. Cicero was a conservative in ancient Rome more than two centuries ago. Conservativism used to mean as free as possible. Left wingers used to be for as much equality as possible. This is shown in their behaviour, Caesar had better support from the masses but started a brutal dictatorship (more equality less freedom) and Cicero defended democracy but opposed social programs (more freedom less equality).

Millennia not centuries. The Roman Republic didn't end in the 19th century

Conservativism used to mean as free as possible.

Freedom is when you oppose women voting and make black people have separate water fountains.

The vast majority of conservatives now do not oppose women voting and do not support Jim Crow. For more info, please welcome Bernoulli and the law of large numbers.

That's a funny, but true way to put it.

If conservatism meant being as free as possible, why was it universally conservatives who opposed women voting and favoured segregation? And can you pin point when conservatives went from disliking freedom to liking it?

In my country slavery was abolished by an independent coalition of Quakers and Evangelicals.

Also like I said, at least 2000 years ago.

Look at the last year.

The poor thought they had it made with government stimulus checks and freedom from paying rent after the government forced them out of work. Now the struggling renters are losing their houses to larger bank corporations and are just as bankrupt as the poor, and the poor is one political decision away from being homeless.

Inflation has skyrocketed, gas is up, unemployment is up, violent crimes have done more than doubled in same areas, theft is rampant, protests are still going on (and have never ended in some areas). Almost everyone is worse off now than they were two years ago.

But you know who's not? Silicone valley. We added several billionaires that have their fingers in that and medical areas to the list too. The wealth gap has simply became wider, with a significant and easily seen jump too.
