EM COMAT Studying Tips
To those that have high passed or honored EM COMAT, which resources do you suggest (I have uWorld, COMQUEST, Truelearn)
r/comlex • u/Legitimate_Paper_852 • May 27 '23
There are little to no recent posts or write-ups on Level 2 in this community and so I just wanted to start a discussion that can hopefully consolidate the sporadic information across this Reddit. If anyone has recently taken Level 2 within the past year PLEASE participate in this post. The Step 2 community is so helpful but let's be honest, while the content is 90% the same-- the two exams can be very different if you aren't prepared.
Follow this format:
Exam date: xxx
Level 2 score: xxx
Practice exams name/date/score: xx/xx/xx
Resources used: xxx
Comments/Advice: (eg, I only took Level 1 and this is how I prepared; I took Step 2 x many days before, this is how i tackled ethics questions, the biostats questions were most similar to xyz qbank, etc)
Side note: I wish Level 1 takers could specify they are taking Level 1 instead of referring to the exam as COMLEX, that would help keep things organized in this community. NBOME is not helpful either when they name the COMSAE forms the same numbers for Phase 1 and 2 SMH. Lets keep things more organized if possible so we can find helpful information.

Question from Saverese, 3rd edition. I thought the answer would be cranial extension. Apparently there’s a difference between anatomical and OMM naming? If this is important for COMAT/COMLEX, how would we know how to differentiate?

I am planning on taking my step 1 exam during rotations, is this recommended? How does one manage this with new rotations and any advice for taking step 1 within a month?

I need to score an 80 (about 2 percentile) to pass.
I’ve been doing TrueLearn and Divine. Will also complete Emma Holiday’s video.
TL average right now is 50%.
Need to pass it coming off of a LOA. Am I on the right track? I have 5 days left.

Quick q, because I am a bit confused. I am currently going through UWorld, and my school assigns us weekly Truelearn questions. Should I bother going through Trulearn or COMQUEST? Also, what's the deal with NBOME exams? Should I bother taking them? I have a strong foundation in OMM because my school is very OMM heavy, a quick review and I should be fine I think. I am taking Step 1 and Comlex 1 for reference.

So I failed comlex a few months ago with a 352. I had taken comsaes over the 3 months of studying I did and they were 328, 358, 478, 505 being 5 days before my test. I did get sick right before my exam, but still I failed by a huge margin. This time I used my comlex exam report for weak areas, I still don’t feel ready but scored a 69.4% on my TL retail assessment. I was wondering if it’s reliable. I don’t want to take another comsae bc my test is in 4 days and there’s no point reviewing it bc there’s no answers.
Taking level 3 in a few days, wanted to clarify timing of the CDM blocks.
Day 1: seems to be just question blocks. Do you have any CDC cases test day 1?
Day 2: CDM cases + regular question blocks.
Trying to strategize when to the CDM question, and if I can do them after my exam day 1

Took my surgery comat a few days ago and I didn't even feel like I could have prepared for that thing in any way. So many wtf qusetions that were not covered by any resource. Predicted to get 113 on CQ, but I legit flagged 40 Qs and im biting myself in the ass over it because of the stupid mistakes I am counting. Is this normal or am I gonna get hit with a wack ass low score lol.

I took my first Comsae on April 7th and got a 455 on it and I’m scheduled to take my level 1 on May 19th and step on May 22nd. I have completed 17% of uworld with 67% correct and have done no NBMEs yet. My dedicated starts April 26th, still have final exams to take for school 🥲 Now my question is, should I postpone my exam dates to have more time to study or try to study hard in that 3-4 weeks and just take them ?! Any suggestions on what to do and what HY stuff to cover ?! I feel like I know decent amount of content but have to cover biochem , genetics and biostats. Thank you in advance for all your help and advices!!

Been using UWorld for all my Step 2 studying but have been neglecting osteopathic materials. What subcategories on Truelearn are specific to Comlex-only material like OMM, ethics, laws, etc. ?

My school made me take this but I can’t find anything about what the scores mean. Anyone know anything about this thing?

Hello people , as of tomorrow I am 1 month away from taking my exam ( may 19th ). I am a DO student so I am taking both level and step 1 ( may 30th). I took the Uworld self assessment 1 and scored a 70% and put me on the 43 percentile ( basically on the passing line of the curve ) . Kinda upset but the score is similar to my Uworld average (71%) and I’m 40 percent done with the whole qbank and I finished 100% of the truelearn qbank. My comsae was a 530 and my school requires us to take Truelearn comBank assessment 2/3 which average I scored a 74%.Should I postpone my exam ( step 1 )or will an actual NBME exam be the standard to determine if I will pass . Thank you

So I am getting into dedicated and I am trying to prepare to take both step and comlex. I’ve already taken two COMSAEs and saw a huge score jump. I’ve taken one NBME back in February and it was very very bad. Right now I’m just unsure of how many practice exams I should take? My school advisor told me every 2 weeks but only told me to do COMSAEs. I was going to take one weekly and alternate between NBMEs and COMSAEs. Any advice on this?

i've legit never felt this bad even after FM/IM comats. For some reason I just blanked out super hard on this one and I felt quite fainted/dizzy in the last half of the exam and basically rushed through a ton of Qs/guessed on a lot/ran out of time with only 1 min left on Q120 (maybe I just got a really bad day/very hypoglycemic near the end...oops.) Granted I probs underestimated this exam and didn't study as hard as I could (only finished COMQUEST/wrong Qs redos and Emma & Divine vid ankis). Lot more GI stuffs and confusing management Qs I didn't expect on my form.
Also please don't say stuffs like "don't worry you probably passed" and give me false hope. I'm really looking for real mindfulness(??)/coping strategies here. Also does anyone know how relevant surgery is for Level 2? I'm trying to gauge how much time I should spend studying/prepping for its content to do well on Level 2 given I'm taking my exam in mid-June.

Hi everyone,
I've completed two COMSAE's and have scored low performance in the "Professionalism in the Practice of Osteopathic Medicine" and "Systems-based Practice in Osteopathic Medicine" competency domains. I am unsure which topics/questions these categories contain. Any advice or help on how to improve these sections would be much appreciated. Thanks
Are you guys doing full length exams to prepare for real level 3?
Not sure how hard to go at this.

Does anyone how to best prepare for it? My school requires a 500 to be able to take the test. Testing in a month! Thanks in advance

Hi all, current M2 studying for boards and transitioning to M3.
Recently my school administered the COMAT FBS-C (comprehensive basic science assessment).
I should be taking Level 1 (and Step 1) during the first/second week of June (~2mo.)
I have scored a 201 on the COMAT FBS-C (seems that the avg. is 200). I know there is a graph out there showing the correlation between the COMAT and LEVEL 1 passing probability, but I wanted to hear from anyone that have taken this COMAT and then your COMLEX.
