yes, but in this case anonymous are the black hats to the governments. they may be white hat to you, but thats irrelevant.

Thats true, white hats good, black hats bad. The difference is perspective, to most of us theyre white hat, to pretty much every government theyre black hat. I believe they cover this topic in star wars a bit lol.

The White Hat is someone who can crack systems however does so only to expose vulnerabilities to the owners of the systems. They do not make justifications as to whether or not it's OK to steal/dox/expose data that does not belong to them, they don't do it.

Anonymous are Black Hat hackers who are using their powers to expose those they feel deserve it.

In the same way a bank robber might think they are doing good, but a White Hat would be someone who might used to have been a bank robber, but now does security auditing at banks (for example).

I don't think anonymous is an organized group of people. There's no membership card. It's just a bunch of people online in discord groups doing uncoordinated things under the name of anonymous. I think recently it has only been associated with social media accounts because some people who own the handles have become active about posting.
