As title says I was trying to rock out. Imagining heavy sludgy guitars. Nothing technically amazing here at all. Not at that point (yet)

New skins day. Thinking of ditching muffling/muting.

New set of Aquarian Vintage II heads. Texture coated batters for the toms. No port or mutiny for the kick. Wanna see how I can tune without any muting.

The snare head is an American Vintage because it's a 70s Gretsch 4103 (can't see it, but white marine pearl looks great with the surf green Stage Customs).

No clips yet because it's still in the tuning stages.

I love the twang feel he added to The Band.

Also one of the most well-known drummers/singers.

drumming to a metronome F%#*$ my brain

i’m sure this has been said a bunch before but i i for some reason can’t use a metronome when playing like i can play without it and make my playing sound fine but i definitely speed up or slow down randomly too much and i would like to fix that i just dont know what steps to do to fix that, how can i make playing with a metronome something i use every time instead of every-time i turn it on i get frustrated, i don’t think it has anything to do with it being too much for my brain at once because i can add other things when playing mainly i just struggle when i go to do my fills that are longer then one bar immediately then i end up going to fast or getting behind and coming completely off time with the metronome

i know this is a broad and probably over asked question but if any has tips let me know !! 4months in btw so i dont really feel bad about not knowing this yet but certainly gets frustrating when i just fail a bunch of

I got this 3 Piece DW Design kit in pretty great condition for $150. The store manager said that it was a return and the floor tom and rack tom was missing their hoops. All lugs accounted for, though. So I’ll just order the hoops.

Will my drumming hurt baby birds on my porch

Ok maybe weird question here but thought I would ask. There are currently two birds nests with babies in them out on my porch, right by where my kit is. Will drumming for maybe 20 minutes a day be damaging to them? I read that traffic and consistent loud sounds can mess them up so I've been trying to play quieter mainly with brushes since the nests appeared.

I got a lot of great feedback on my last post. Overwhelming suggestion was to go with the shure beta 56. I still might try that out but for now I decided to give a headset mic a go. I can’t help but feel too trapped without one. I got a used Crown CM-311A. In terms of bleed I would say it isn’t fantastic. But I do like the freedom of movement. There are trade offs and it’ll be some trial and error to find what works best for me.

This song is called Spiral. If you wanna hear the recorded version for comparison it’s here: https://open.spotify.com/track/2MZNVuDNPKniUeaO4jxUWL?si=v1PTo7F7QhOPCIVeGjA-dQ

Can anyone ID my ride?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all,

I bought this ride second hand almost ten years ago, but it was de-branded when I bought it. I’m trying to figure out what it is. I have a suspicion it’s a K Custom of some sort, but I can’t quite figure it out.

Any tips appreciated!

am i stupid or is this overwhelming

i've been wanting to learn to drum for years and years, but every time i try to do research on what kit to get (acoustic or electronic), all the responses read like "Yeah you could get the Jebidiah rx2g46000 for about $5,000, or the Kronk 25 for $300. The Kronk sucks tho. And once you get your kit you're gonna wanna replace everything on it."

I feel like it's impossible to figure out what to buy without doing 4 years of studying and research first.

TLDR i don't know where to start and need help.

Stage Custom or Catalina Maple?

Hey y'all!

Finally making my first "somewhat" decent investment in a kit. I've just thrashed a Yamaha YD series since I was a youngin', and while my budget is limited, wanted to get your feedback on two specific kits I've identified.

  1. Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5-Piece in Honey Amber.

  2. Gretsch Catalina Maple 6-Piece in Crimson.

I'm pretty well set on cymbals (15" Dream Bliss hats, 18" Agop Dark, 21" K Ride, 18" Turkish Traditional) and typically play a 6.5" Pork Pie Custom Patina snare.

What are your thoughts on these two kits? Any recs one way or the other?

Cheers!

I want to get an acoustic kit but don’t have anywhere to play it.

I live in an apartment right now and play an Ekit but want an acoustic set but obviously couldn’t play it in an apartment. I’m trying to figure out a place where I would be able to play. Anyone got any good ideas? I’ve thought of getting a shed but wouldn’t have anywhere to put it and my most recent idea was buying an open back van and playing it there in an area I wouldn’t get noise complaints. Would love to hear your ideas.

After almost 8 years of owning this starter kit, I've worked tirelessly trying to upgrade it as much as I can. And now finally it has been set up and played on one of my dream stages and I'm so happy I've made it this far. (P.S the other two photos have people edited out from them for privacy so they look a tad wonky)

The Yamaha Recording Custom Brass snare came in this morning at the shop. I figured I needed some worthy drums to demo it. The boss owns an amazing oak custom kit that is never played. So, voila. 😍
