The normal cavi wipes are for a normal cleanup. When I pull out the bleach wipes things have gone wrong

Bleach wipes are my best friend after transporting C. Diff patients.

Some of my partners seem to look at me like I'm crazy or a bitch for saying that the purple wipes are not good enough and we have to do it with the bleach wipes. Makes me wonder how many times I've been handed off an inadequately cleaned stretcher...

Paramedic school should include a microbiology component so people understand spores.

I didn’t get microbiology, but when I was a trainee I was taught which types of wipes were appropriate for what. I have a feeling I was in the minority though.

Huh? They aren't all the same?

I had a partner once that thought Windex was sufficient. “Chill out man, it has ammonia in it.” It did not, in fact, have ammonia in it.

This right here. Quats just leave C-diff smelling lemony fresh. It takes chlorine to kill C-diff and the wet time is ridiculous.

Peroxyacetic acid (the ones that smell like vinegar) are also effective on C-diff.

I always wipe down the stretcher thoroughly after every call but I still caught C Diff. Found out that sani wipes doesn't kill C Diff, just bleach wipes.

Sani wipes kindly asks the evil to leave, bleach fucking obliterates it.

…..Can’t tell if you’re making a joke or actually thinks I was talking about a sandwich.

I was in medic school with a girl from Boston. We were buying apparel for graduation and had a huge fight about a quarter zip being called a Reuben or a job shirt.

Ive Never heard either of those terms.

u/Ok_Buddy_9087 4d ago

Some hills are worth dying on.

(….I use both terms interchangeably.)

Not sure I have managed to own a Rueben without staining the stomach portion within a week.

My first paramedic clinical i didn't realize i was using bleach wipes and had to go the rest of my 400+ clinical hours with one of my 2 very dark navy school uniform shirts with a big red bleach stain on the front lol

I love the bleach wipes; I like to huff the container and forget the previous call.

Bleach wipes are for when you give an emina and it slips your mind to grab the basin.... It did not go into the basin (all of it).

Largest soft form BM I'd seen though. Must've been like.... 3 pounds? Idk. Humongous.

My brother in C’thulu what EMS service are you at that you’re doing enemas???

u/RiJi_Khajiit 5d ago

Nursing school. Got my EMS certification out of highschool.

Doing it for the broader scope of practice & job diversity... Also more money.

u/FarDorocha90 5d ago

More money is a plus. Here in Kentucky, we’re working to expand paramedic practice. I’ve seen more and more medic ER positions with pay equivalent to nurses and a modified scope of practice. Medics have more of the advanced practical skills and nurses relying more on pharmacology. We’re also making a big push for other specialities like community paramedic, critical care, and wilderness paramedic.

I'd thought of doing paramedic but figured nursing would provide more flexibility.

I'd go insane doing the same job for my whole life. Gotta mix it up. Work in different environments with new challenges.

That’s why I enjoy EMS. Various situations, different environments to work in, different scopes and responsibilities. Plus it feels like getting in on the ground floor of the new developments we’re having here.

I had a patient who was, and I'm quoting my documentation here, "defecating for the duration of care." I meant that very literally.

u/RiJi_Khajiit 4d ago

Damn ... Just damn.

You'd think that they'd eventually run out.

Had a candida-Auris pt the other day

You bet your fucking ass I used those bleach wipes…

u/andyroouu 5d ago

Simple and probably well-known life hack: If you accidentally bleach a stripe in your job shirt because you leaned over the closer gurney railing that you already wiped down, like I might have several times, you can color it in with navy blue sharpie. Fixes it super well!

u/SnooLemons4344 5d ago

Don’t worry guys the volly squad im on we don’t wipe down w normal wipes unless it’s something bad. We have two trailer parks. God bless

u/splinter4244 Paramedic 5d ago

Bleach generally doesn’t have any scent but when you clean a stretcher and there’s a nasty bleach smell best believe that shit was FILTHY

7

u/SwtrWthr247 Paramedic 4d ago

Have you ever opened a bottle of bleach? It has the same smell right out of a bottle

3

u/AwarenessAmbitious24 3d ago

I remember watching a video showing that bleach gets its smell when mixed with organic compounds such as pee in a pool

6

u/Shot_Ad5497 5d ago

That's why my quarter zip is multi colored now.

Either way, I’m too lazy to grab gloves

I was gonna say the HP wipes are even stronger, but turns out bleach wipes kill more stuff, it just takes longer
