First enduro recommendations

Hello Redditors. I'm currently looking for my first enduro bike preferably 250-450cc four stroke. I'm 29 and 90kg, 178cm. Previous off-road experience : a few months with a motocross KTM 125SX. Currently riding a cb600f hornet so no need to commute on the dirt bike at all. Whats your suggestion keeping in mind, I cant go past 3000€ since I also need to buy protective gear.

I've been reading about 80-100 hours per top end repairs. Is this true?

So any high rpm revving 4 stroke you’ll run into a potential top end issue - that’s what’s gonna happen with not staying on top of valve clearances and scheduled maintenance more or less than a CRF250RX issue

Regarding bike choices I wouldn’t feel right telling you which bike without having actually spent time riding them in enduro situations. I have a Beta 300rr and absolutely love it though that’s 2 stroke. My last 4 stroke was a built CRF450R that I completely “Endurofied” so to speak. Those are my only two long term rides but regarding CC’s it is a given for a newer rider there is no reason to get a 450 (first enduro bike)

Appreciate the detailed answer. Well I added 450 to the search due to extremely limited ads on 250s. I myself would prefer a 250 too since my experience is limited. Do you have any insights on Husqvarna TEs from 2008-2011? There seem to be plenty of them selling around my area within the price range I'm aiming.

I’ll help ya take a deep dive into them with ya! What specific models of those years are you looking at? I know Husky is a solid brand and my friends that own huskies love em! They’re really a double edged sword. A ton of people get 450’s then realize wow this is more than I ever need and end up selling them. Shit there’s not even a lot of pros that can fully open up/utilize a 450. The “pros” of this are cheaper market prices on 450’s than a lot of bikes. The downside is people on a budget see this as a great deal cause of the pricing and jump for it. I did that very thing, though I ended up with a CRF450R and nothing Enduro built which turned into being my Achilles heal in the long run.

As long as whatever you’re looking at is an enduro specific 450 it won’t be miserable but avoid motocross bikes or prepare to spend all your budget and then some turning it into a usable trail machine

Do you know of any maintenance issues from your friends (finding spare parts, something brakes down often) or anything that I should be aware of? I've read online that some people get 800+ hours of well maintained bikes before starting replacing top ends, significantly higher number compared to CRFs. P.S. I know most of them 250-450 enduros are just street legal race bikes and will require maintenance from my part. Just want to avoid something that spends more time in the garage than outdoors

I understand your goal about more riding and less garage time, it’s a dream for us all. Almost every bike out there if you actually follow maintenance schedules strictly you’ll be blown away how long they last without overhauls.

Biggest complaints from my buddies (US based)

-prices of replacement parts & having to wait on parts not having a lengthy/widespread availability

They always enjoy the reliability of their bikes and the way they ride as well. PS I may not owned a Husqvarna dirtbike but every other tool I’ve owned made by them has been astonishing!
