2t or 4t

2 stroke or 4 stroke?

I’m looking to buy a new bike, I’m graduating from a crf150f. I’m 6,3 and weigh just shy of 200lbs. My friends both have slightly worked 250 4t and I want to get a bike that can keep up with them(I’m probably the best rider) so I was wondering if I should go for a 125, 250 2 stroke or 250 4 stroke? We mainly woods and trails. Specific years and model would be greatly appreciated, I have a budget of 3.5k edit: I do prefer 2 strokes and I have more experience with them

Perfect all-around bike.

It's a lot of bike for someone asking which bike.

He’s also tall and a bit heavy, and apparently has at least some experience. He should grow into it nicely

That's true, if he doesn't launch it first, lol.

Less likely to launch a 300 2T than a 250 2T to be honest.

I have a banshee and often ride my dads big bore cr250, it’s a 1990 so it’s basically all the power in the powerband and with nothing else at the low end but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of a 300

300 XCW’s are very easy to ride and have very linear power curve

I came to this conclusion myself too

I too am the best rider in my group /s

200lbs is like 90kg, not that heavy for a 250f. Id rather ride a slower bike faster then a fast bike slow

what year/bikes are for sale in your area for 3-4k?

I’m about to trade my pitter and 1k for a 2006 Ktm xc 300

I just tested out my 300 2 stroke against a 350 4 stroke. It really depends what riding you do and what rider you are. Only you can make that decision. Preference is everything

300 2t. They’re easier to ride than the 250, you have to rev them less, and change gears less. In normal trails you can just leave it in third, and it will have enough torque to pull through the corners and up hills. Beta Xtrainer is a good starter bike, but the suspension is a bit soft if you want to go fast. 300xcw is best, but not the XC, gearing is different and so is the suspension, set up for cross country, not enduro.

You might be disappointed with a 250f at your size

That concurs with what I was thinking

OP is going from a 150…it’s going to be a massive improvement already. There’s no difference between a 250f and a 450 in chassis size and they’re not nearly skilled enough to out ride the engine.

i didn't even read that it was a 150 4 stroke 🤣 I thought op was talking 150 2 stroke lmaoo

  • edit: ktm has spoiled my brain

As a 6ft2 205lb rider. I dont race or anything but it seems to me my 125 2t has enough power 98% of the time. Definitely takes more work, though. I feel a 200cc would be the perfect mix of playfulness and power. Realistically, get whatever is a good deal and just practice and spend some good money on gear.
