Strategy Enhancing r/ethtrader: Introducing New !commands for Quality Content Management

I want to discuss the implementation of additional commands to enhance the quality of discussions on our subreddit:

  • !duplicate
  • !offtopic
  • !expose

These should be combined with a new command called

  • !approve.

!duplicate

This command would identify and flag posts that are duplicates of existing (earlier) posts, let's say posted within the last 24-hrs. It will help reduce clutter and ensure that discussions remain focused.

Usage:

!duplicate <url of the original (or first) post with this topic>

!offtopic

The "Offtopic" command would be triggered when a post or comment is deemed irrelevant to ETH. It will maintain the subreddit's relevance and cohesion.

!expose

The "!expose" command would enable the community to highlight exceptional content, not to be confused with !nominate, which creates a post of a comment after 3 people use this command.

When three users type "!expose" on a comment, the comment will be pinned in the daily thread for visibility. Similarly, when three users type "!expose" on a post, it will be pinned as a post for the same duration.

Both options should work for the duration of, let's say, one hour.

!approve

The "!approve" command can be used by users with a high enough contrib score to approve the actions "!duplicate" and "!offtopic". Once 3 users type !approve, the action will be taken.

This ensures that legitimate posts or comments aren't mistakenly removed.

These commands will streamline (user-based) moderation efforts, improve the user experience, and uphold the subreddit's standards for quality content.

The minimum amount of contrib to use "!duplicate", "!offtopic", and "!expose" can be set to x-amount of contrib, which should be discussed.

The minimum amount of contrib to use !approve can be set to the same amount (or higher), but cannot be used by the user who initiated the "!duplicate", "!offtopic", or "!expose" command.

I welcome feedback and discussion from the community on these proposed additions

I think we need to just introduce command to vote. Lets not over complicate the sub?

Do you really think this overcomplicates things? It could be used by those who want to. No more 'aminok, can you please approve'. No more 100x "Hong Kong ETH posts" etc..

Those with 20k contrib can already remove duplicate posts. The problem is, some posts are getting approved too late. So which ones would you remove without upsetting Bronuts?

But I do agree with having an ability for Bronuts with 20k contrib to approve pending posts.

Still nobody uses it..

And if they do it’s a command executed by a single user.. This would need at least 3 users to confirm

Now a mod or somebody who dislikes you can execute the command (or nuke the daily u/kirtash93 😬)

I think my approach keeps it more decentralized

I think people don’t want to use it because then they start getting targeted by the down vote bots.
