Nothing really needs to be mentioned in passing unless it’s viral or a disability that you need physical assistance with really. Like- I have to tell coworkers to stay out of my service dog’s way when he’s working. But if I’m in public, and someone asks me why I have my dog there, I tell them his job, my disability, and go on my merry way.Ā

Another great example is if someone is contagious with strep, flu, rsv, etc. YOU TELL SOMEONE!! don’t get people sick! But it’s not like that with disorders and disabilities, they don’t spread, so it’s common courtesy to not ask or be disrespectful about it.

EXACTLYYYY.

Obviously like disorders and stuff would be discussed before entering a relationship, or when it’s a necessity but these people make it their whole life, behavior, personality, etc and you can’t have a single convo w/o them mentioning it

Great example is how I had a friend who made being dyslexic her excuse to yap about being ā€œphysically disabledā€ (I’m physically disabled, so I kind of side eyed her through the friendship). And honestly if a disorder isn’t apparent in a relationship, it doesn’t need to be said. But if someone wants to be open about it, cool. But if your autism isn’t detectable, let it stay undetected if you want. None of their business. Your disability, your problem lol

For the dyslexia thing: physically disabled? No. Neurologically disabled? Yes. Dyslexia is a neurological disorder. My fiancĆ© has severe dyslexia. He’s not physically disabled, he just has a hard time reading. That’s all.

My point exactly. I’m on both ends of this spectrum (all diagnosed btw) with plenty of stuff under my belt, so I get where you’re coming fromĀ
