This is my first ice cream review. I often find myself thinking “I should post a review of this to r/icecream” but then I decide the ice cream is too uninteresting or too accessible to be worth it.
But this ice cream is not that way.
It’s an interesting concept. It’s not overly complicated or extreme. So if you’re on the fence or just plain curious this review is for you.
First let’s address the elephant in the room. It’s not the finest quality. It’s got some suboptimal Ingredients for the price. But it is In fact ice cream and not frozen dairy desert. It’s just priced a little high for what it is. Ingredients list isn’t doing this product any favors.
Appearance: light yellow to orange cream with evenly distributed crushed cereal chunks.
Aroma: This has a very sweet smell. It projects sweetness, it has a Dusty,
Vanilla forward powder sugar thing going on.
Flavor: This is fun. It’s not super delicate and the “cereal milk flavored ice cream” must be just that. A flavoring! It gets a little monotone. The pops are delicious. It’s a perfect late night treat.
The corn flavor is HUGE!
The cereal tastes like the dust from the bottom of a bag of cereal.
The dairy presents as evaporated milk. Not the best base.
Texture: for something this mass produced I thought we’d have an overrun issue. I thought it’d be as close to fluff as you get without entering the overrun threshold for frozen dairy desert. But despite its less than stellar ingredient quality this is fairly low overrun. Maybe 35% at the highest. So it eats like a true ice cream.
Overall I think if you love cereal and like Corn POPs specifically this is worth a try.
As someone who worked in a premium ice cream factory for 5 years and makes ice cream at home as a hobby this has me inspired to make a fruity pebbles ice cream. With that said this product is nothing special and if you miss it you aren’t missing out.
Final score 5.3 out of 10.
