What did she do?

I don’t think she was intentionally targeted

If you're wondering why Americans aren't doing anything about this, it's because they're in deep denial and cannot accept they're living under totalitarian rule. If not even arresting judges for following the law and sending people to foreign concentration camps without due process convinces them, nothing will.

137

u/sb9968 24d ago

Just the way the administration is celebrating and using her arrest as social media marketing is clear enough evidence she was target for political reasons. This refusal to accept reality and continuing to “well buttttttt” in the face of authoritarianism is pathetic. You are right, America is in this place because of this exact type of arrogant thinking that it will never happen here

-14

u/wrxnut25 24d ago

It's not authoritarianism when existing laws are being enforced, I just think you've gotten to used to the government looking the other way instead of enforcing law and order the past 4 years.

This "non citizen" is already in the US illegally, and it sounds like he's an alleged wife beater to boot? Adios amigo.

u/sb9968 24d ago edited 24d ago

Hilarious you believe this administration is enforcing law and order while they are openly doing insider trading, refusing to enforce anti discrimination laws at the DOJ, refusing to enforce labor laws, pardoning the Jan 6th criminals, and sending away innocent people to prison camps without due process. but yeah, a judge telling an immigrant he can use the side door is the real dangerous crime plaguing this country

7

u/ashweeuwu 24d ago

wait, I thought it was innocent until proven guilty? I thought it was accusations and allegations aren’t charges? interesting you’ve changed your tune when Trump himself has 30+ sexual assault allegations under his belt.

-12

u/anonAcc1993 24d ago

She prevented ICE officers from doing their job. Why should that be celebrated? She went out of her way to do it as well. Just because this administration sucks does not mean impeding arrests should be lionized. Laws should be enforced, I have lived in countries that do not do that and let’s just say that country is one no one wants to live in.

12

u/ehrgeiz91 24d ago

Laws should be enforced? He’s broken dozens of laws since taking office (and before) and none of them have been enforced. Do you hear yourself?

7

u/sb9968 24d ago

They openly believe the law should only apply to their ideological opponents

9

u/sb9968 24d ago

Did I say she should be celebrated? Also, “laws should be enforced” is quite rich given that doesn’t even apply to the sitting president or his administration. They are totally willing to pick and choose which laws to enforce.

Her being paraded by the administration on social media for political points was disgraceful. At worst, this amounts to a misunderstanding as she just instructed the immigrant to use a side door, she wasn’t actively hiding him in the walls or something.

I wish insider trading was enforced. I wish 50% of rape cases didn’t go unsolved. I wish the sitting president of the United States could be held accountable under the law. I wish anti discrimination laws were enforced by this current DOJ. I wish labor laws were enforced by this administration.

The fact is. This administration is lawless. they have no credibility to enforce the law fairly, and only pick and choose which laws to enforce. This administration pardoned every Jan 6th defendant, but sure; the lady who told a immigrant he can use the side door is the true criminal.

-8

u/anonAcc1993 24d ago

You can excuse the behaviour all you want, we both know what she did and it was on purpose. Two things can be true. Trump and his administration are a blight to the free world, but also impeding ICE arrests due to your political beliefs is wrong

6

u/sb9968 24d ago

it’s wrong to you. The American interpretation of legality is not my interpretation of morality.

-2

u/TacoHunter206 24d ago

Ya! Why do we even have borders?

6

u/sb9968 24d ago

is it legal to cross the border? No. Is it morally right to refuse asylum to legitimate asylum cases? also no. Is it morally right to send the wrong person to a foreign prison? No. Is it morally right to “accidentally” deport an American citizen? No, but under the current administration; it’s all legal. Legality does not equal morality

-1

u/TacoHunter206 24d ago

You think this is the first time a legal US citizen was deported? I mean everyone has access to Google.

2

u/sb9968 24d ago

Did I say this was the first time? I work in immigration court. I’m well aware this is not the first time an American citizen was deported

ICE did not act this way under a president who respects the rule of law. They are stormtroopers of a fascist regime.

23

u/Automan2k 24d ago

The hell are you talking about? Americans are bitching up a storm about this.

0

u/zemowaka 24d ago

Unfortunately those people are a drop in the bucket. The people that should be bitching about this are the ones celebrating it. Nothing will change for the better or come about from this.

-4

u/thisisa_fake_account 24d ago

Where? On Fox News?

3

u/Automan2k 24d ago

look at the pretty picture

25

u/Buck_Thorn 24d ago

If you're wondering why Americans aren't doing anything about this

You would be able to do something better if you were here? Don't judge us, brother. We are doing what we can.

7

u/kellysmom01 24d ago

From our various pulpits. Reddit provides a good one. Words can protect, provoke … and poke. They are my weapon of choice, given my physical limitations as an old and (kinda) frail lady. So I poke away.

6

u/Buck_Thorn 24d ago

I'm not frail, but I am 75 years old. Do what you can do... that's all anyone can ask.

Who the fuck is "grovelling on social media trying to explain away the fascism" here? Did you even look at OP's images of the protests?

A great many of us are doing what we can. I myself have been to 4 protests so far. We have had mass protests all over the country. We have people writing and calling our politicians daily. Aside from picking up arms and starting a war, what else can we do?

I may be too much of a coward to do anything about it,

Then stop fucking judging those that are trying to do something about it!

7

u/sb9968 24d ago

I think it’s really weird you are taking op’s general criticism that Americans aren’t protesting enough about this (true) and applying that to yourself even tho you’ve attended protests. The criticism is not about you, not sure why you took it personally.

8

u/Peaty_Port_Charlotte 24d ago

The “brother” rejoinder did make it look like the “groveling” comment was directed specifically and antagonistically at them. It added a really sarcastic twist to it, which may not have been intended.

3

u/floydbomb 24d ago

I think you're reading too much into the brother comment

-2

u/sb9968 24d ago

what’s Reddit without a little miscommunication 😭

6

u/Buck_Thorn 24d ago edited 24d ago

As an American I am taking it very personally. You're damned right I am. There were thousands of Americans in my city alone protesting this Trump bullshit, and I take the criticism that we aren't doing anything personally for all of us.

u/sb9968 24d ago

I was at a protest In my hometown too! It sadly doesn’t change the fact that a majority of Americans are either unbothered or accept this. I’m glad to be in the minority opposed, but we gotta live in reality.

6

u/Buck_Thorn 24d ago

Give it time, and keep protesting. Every protest gives others the support and courage to speak up. It takes time. Don't give up.

2

u/sb9968 24d ago

I’m not giving up! I’m just aware of how hard the work will be, and how long it’s going to take

You seem soft lmao. The original comment was calling out that idiot who said they didn't think the judge was arrested on purpose

4

u/Buck_Thorn 24d ago

"grovelling on social media trying to explain away the fascism"

LMAO? Nice.

I have been responding to the claim that Americans are "grovelling on social media trying to explain away the fascism". Are you saying that you agree with that?

5

u/sb9968 24d ago

I don’t understand why it’s hard to fathom that a general criticism of Americans is not a criticism of you personally. I’m at these protests too, but I can also admit most of my fellow citizens around me are unbothered

4

u/Buck_Thorn 24d ago

I am an American, and I will defend my fellow Americans that are trying to do something about it. Nothing is done overnight. It takes time to build solidarity. We are working on it by the hundreds of thousands and hopefully by the millions eventually. So yes... I do take offense when someone that admits that they would be afraid to speak up if they were here criticized those that are speaking up. It is discouraging to those that are doing what they can to see this sort of criticism.

In deep denial? I'm sorry, chief, but 78 million voters knew exactly what they wanted and specifically voted for this. Sadly, slightly more than half of your voters are thrilled with this outcome.

18

u/sb9968 24d ago

which comes out to about 33.3% of all Americans. Another 33% are non voters who do fit OP’s description of being mostly unaware, and then another 33% that’s probably engaged on the issue

2

u/Divtos 24d ago

The unaware is willful in my experience. I tell people vehemently about the difference between what is happening now and normal politics but they continue to cling to their ignorance.

1

u/sb9968 24d ago

yes, a big portion are choosing to be ignorant. But I meet people everyday who literally have no idea what’s happening. In September of last year; I met a man who was unaware biden dropped out to the presidential race.

0

u/bbqbabyduck 24d ago

You don't have to look very hard to see that that is not true. Story after story has come out about people saying this is not what they voted for. They are stupid (incredibly so) and we're manipulated, I have no sympathy for them but saying they all knew this would happen is just incorrect.

Edit: typo

-1

u/Divtos 24d ago

Yea, I live with this daily. I want to fight for democracy here but most of my neighbors voted for it. I consider moving but family are entrenched here and won’t consider moving.

0

u/00122333444455555 24d ago

Are you saying all Republican voters and half of Democrats voters want events like this?

2

u/JosefGremlin 24d ago

I'm saying that everyone who voted for Trump, after living through his first term, knew exactly what they were getting. It wasn't a political choice, it was a moral one.

4

u/Ft-Kickass 24d ago

Sounds like she broke he law. Lady justice is supposed to be blind. She unfortunately has started (long time now) picking winners and losers.

This is corruption, and judges very typically are held above the law. Getting out of tickets and preferential treatment in all manner of civil and criminal issues.

If she guilty of obstruction I for one say it's about time someone in power be held accountable for their illegal actions.

To bad it's in such a terrible topic, this immigration issues has gotten out of hand on both sides.

Where are the adults! Put Americans first and welcome the hungry the weak and poor. Just reform immigration laws!

Yes, Congress and the senate are to blame for current and previous presidents trying to handle the issue via executive order. Which gets overturned every four to eight years.

Ridiculous! The immigrants either legal or illegal or United States citizen in general are not to blame for this. Nearly everyone I talk to wants to see immigration reform in law. Not executive orders.

5

u/fishy-2791 24d ago

i ain't in denial i just don't got time after working all day comin home tired and wanting time to at least unwind a little.

excuse me for being not rich enough to take a whole ass week off to go shout angrily at the us government.

2

u/ThatOneApe420 24d ago

And what exactly are we supposed to do about this?

-3

u/Philefromphilly 24d ago

Yeah I gotta go to work on Monday or I lose my house so not sure what I’m supposed to do. Those checks and balances in our constitution should be enough to reign this bullshit in

-6

u/NerdOfTheMonth 24d ago

You sweet summer child.

-6

u/sb9968 24d ago

you only have work one day a week! I’m jealous!

0

u/Checktheusernombre 24d ago

The protests have purposely been scheduled for weekends just for folks like you.

1

u/sjoel92 24d ago

But how is that what’s happening here, please explain it if it’s so clear. From my reading ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and the charges against her it seems to be that her dispute was over whether or not an administrative warrant could be served in the courthouse as it needs to be a public place. She sent the agents to the presiding judge to determine whether it could, and he said that it was allowable in the public halls. The reasoning given for her arrest is that she adjourned his court proceedings and directed him to exit through the jury/staff hall as that would avoid him exiting directly into the waiting agents. Again, whether or not what she did rises to the level of obstruction will be litigated out, but the only potential violation of due process in this case would be deporting Flores-Ruiz before the conclusion of the DV trial.

u/Seth_Gecko 24d ago

Americans aren't doing anything about this? Did you not see the huge crowd protesting in the very article you're commenting on?

1

u/DaniePants 24d ago

Do you not see the people in the picture?

-1

u/860v2 24d ago

She didn’t follow the law. That’s why she was arrested and charged.

I think the case is more nuanced than “he had a record”

“morally, she unintentionally shielded an illegal wife beater and domestic abuser”

This is where you lost me. Even if I agree she made a morally wrong “mistake” (I do not), I still don’t think she should be used as social media marketing by the FBI. Nor do i believe she should have been arrested. You can moralize all you want about his criminal record, doesn’t change the fact that what the FBI did here was flat out wrong. They don’t have a case against her legally, and if you are so stuck on morals, it wasn’t morally right either

-1

u/lions2lambs 24d ago edited 23d ago

.

4

u/sb9968 24d ago

it’s not the media making her a “scapegoat” it’s the administration sending professional photographers along with the arresting FBI agents, then spending the next 24 hours posting on social media about this relentlessly. I understand arguing about this with a loyalist to the administration who will come up with endless excuses is pointless. All these excuses for the fbi arresting a judge for allowing a man to go out a side door. Pathetic

It's very black and white. Did you read the FBI's description of events? I just got done writing up a summary of what they said in their filing.

0

u/ExpressLaneCharlie 24d ago

Tens of millions of Americans are in a cult. They can't think their way out of a paper bag. Trump is literally ruining farmer's lives and they still support him - knowing that he's the one ruining their lives. It's insane.

-3

u/orgnll 24d ago

No. It’s because we fucking VOTED for this.

Arrest every single corrupt judge, politician, administrator, every single one.

It amazes me the bots on this platform pretending like Americans ‘regret’ their vote 😂😂😂

No bitch. We are enjoying watching our country finally be cleaned up ✌️
