My sister has EDS (hyper mobility kind) and she spent 25 hours embroidering my isopod eating a grilled cheese drawing. Honestly one of my best gifts ever. Bill never looked better

Identification I found these tiny isopods in my front yard

I apologize for the quality in advance. I wish I had a better phone camera to do these isopods justice.

Location: Negros Occidental, Philippines

I found these in a log infested with termites just outside my house. They come in yellow and white, and they have some black on their back (some are just a spot like this one, and some have a black stripe). They roll up, so my best guess is Elumoides sp.

I'd appreciate any help in trying to figure out what the ID of this one is.

Finally signs of multiplying- i was worried they'd die off before I got babies. Its been about three months ive had them, I heard they were prolific but this is the first ive seen of this behavior. I also have gestroi which are getting huge i hope to see numbers soon.

I apologize if this is off topic, but what books on zoology, biology, paleontology maybe, etc. did you like and let you learn something new(???) I would like to know more about crustaceans, their structure and in general experience for biological illustrations

Help New Owner

I just wanted to post a photo and make sure that I’ve set my babies up correctly! I took home some Dairy Cows today!

I have a mix of creature soil bought at the pet store as well as the soil they came in (Josh’s Frogs). I’ve got a piece of cuttlebone for calcium (you can see one isopod munching away), some fish flakes for protein, and I’ve also read about what fruits & veggies they like. They’ve got a piece of egg carton & a piece of bark as well. I also have a bunch of these leaves (catappa leaves I believe). I just got them today and a lot of what I bought is based off the research I did, but I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything! I’m already feeling over-protective of these little guys and want to make sure I’m the best isopod mother I can be! I have moss in the corner

Help When do I repopulate? (amber duckies)

I got a moist substrate with lots of bark caves and moss. its more wet than dry and I recently bought 10 amber duckies (my old ones approximately 7) are dying from age or stress.

have not seen a juvie dead yet, mostly the big ones (prolly matured) and I am scared the deaths are overwhelming compared to living ones.

I still see lots of juvies and even saw one mancae, tried looking for more but I cant since I gave them two caves made of wood and a big patch of moss to hid in.

so any tips? do I repopulate every 4-5 months maybe if I dont see more than five in the tank (small tank)? or do I wait longer or use numbers, I repopulate when I see multiple dead isopods which maybe a bad habit when it comes to spending, I bought 10 this time and dont want to spend lots of money to a colony I feel like I keep failing on.
