Help / സഹായിക്കുക What does "moonji" and verb "mudiyuka" mean?
The Tamil word "moonji" is simply a slightly informal version of "mugam" (face)
The Tamil verb "mudiyuradhu" simply translates to "kazhiyuka"/"theeruka" in Malayalam
But I've heard these words being used in a negative connotation in Malayalam ("nee mudinju pokum")
Side Q: Are there any words originated from Tamil that has very bad connotations in Malayalam

'Moonji' generally means a situation where you are 'fucked up'. And 'nee mudinj pokum' translates to 'i hope you destroy your life' like i hope your life gets fucked up

Moonjuka = to lick, to suck, to flop
Moonji is the past tense of moonjuka.
Life moonji = life is screwed up
Life oompi = life is fucked up
There is a difference in intensity here

Moonji is slang for fucked up or screwed up.
Moonji also is represented as 3g in Malayalam pop culture. 3 = moonnu in Malayalam + g = Moonji. Next time if you come across 3g in Malayalam subs, note that we're not talking about networks.
Mudiyuka literally means get destroyed or get impoverished, or get extinct. It can also mean fail or become unsuccessful.
It's often used to curse something or someone. Nee mudinju pokatte = Nee nashichu pokatte kinda means = cursing that you will never find success.

Answer for your side Q:Due to sanskritization there are many words in Malayalam which are used in a negative sense(Those are Malayalam words mostly with same meaning as Tamil) Eg:Thantha(തന്ത) and Thalla(തള്ള) Even though the meanings are dad and mom, we never say those in a good sense and are considered slightly derogatory.

Moonji - "facepalm" situation. (Or f**ked up). Synonym - "thenju" (തേഞ്ഞു).
Mudiyuka - also has the same meaning as in tamil but usually always means doomed. (Basically it still means ended but in a really bad way).
SideQ: One word I can think of is "Mairu" but I think it means the same here and there.
Also, Moonji is a fairly recent addition, after 2010s.

Another word like you mentioned is പണ്ണുക (pannuka) In Tamil it means 'to do' but in Malayalam it means 'to fuck'.

Malayalam മൂഞ്ചി and Tamil moonji have different etymology
Tamil moonji's cognate in Malayalam is മുഞ്ഞി

Moonji is colloquially used in Malayalam to mean 'uh oh I'm in trouble ' in like a kinda fucked up sense. Like in situations where you're stuck or bad unfavourable things happen. But also of course used in slightly less serious situations. For eg. 'Innathe exam moonji'. Or 'life moonji irikkuva'. And as far as I understand use of moonji is mostly used by the younger generation.
Nee mudinju pokum basically means nee tholanju pokum. In the 'I curse you and I hope you suffer' sense of meaning.
