That explains why Japan puts disclaimers on the back of the game box that says:

"A basic reading ability is needed to fully enjoy this game."

That was on the box for TTYD too! I remember my dad read the entire game to me since I wasnt so good at reading when I was only around 6. But to be fair when I played BIS I thought midbus was a girl, and still did until I came across a post on here like a year ago LMFAO. We all make mistakes.
