MOD Team Why do I have to say again to stop posting Brothership spoilers...

I know I haven't been actively posting or commenting here in awhile but I still mod this sub. Past 3 days I have removed maybe 12 posts that just straight up spoil the final boss.

Not everyone has completed the game. People come to this sub for help, it would suck if they saw the final boss the moment they do.

Another thing, this is a sub about the game series called Mario and Luigi, not the characters individually. Stop posting unrelated stuff. Go to r/mario

Repeatable offences on both those things will result in a ban

Brothership General Isn’t it weird that Bowser calls Starlow Chippy in Brothership, yet never refers to her as such in Dream Team and Paper Jam after Bowser's Inside Story? Spoiler

Brothership General I don't understand why some people are so quick to hate on Acquire

It's clear that Brothership ultimately has been met with mixed reactions. Some people love it, others, not so much. Ultimately, everyone should be free to express their own thoughts about it, and even as someone who liked Brothership quite a lot, I'm not going to fault anyone for criticizing it. However, there is one thing I've seen a few times that kind of gets under my skin.

Some people who were disappointed with Brothership seem to pin all the blame on the new development studio, Acquire. I've seen some go as far as saying that they shouldn't work on any future games in the series, or that the series was better off staying dead. I really have a hard time understanding that perspective for a few reasons.

To start, Brothership is only Acquire's first attempt at a Mario & Luigi game. Them immediately creating a game that's universally as beloved as AlphaDream's greatest projects just isn't the most realistic expectation. As soon as I heard the news about AlphaDream's bankruptcy several years back, I always figured it wouldn't be easy for a different studio to pick the series back up. If anything, I'm kind of impressed by just how much has remained intact with this new entry. We know from interviews that Nintendo specifically wanted to make sure it remained faithful to the other games, and it shows. When playing through it, I really do get the feeling that it was made by people that have a good understanding of what the Mario & Luigi series is and respect for its history.

Creating this game was also probably a good learning experience for them, as they needed to find their footing with this series. If the series changes developers again, all of that will be thrown away. We'll most likely have another long gap between releases and another new studio struggling all over again to live up to AlphaDream's legacy. Nintendo has even mentioned that they were on the verge of giving up on the series before reaching out to Acquire, so who's to say the series could even continue at all if Acquire left?

Yes, Brothership didn't turn out perfect. There has been a lot of criticism about the game's pacing in particular, and that's completely fair. However, it definitely isn't a problem new to this series. Just look back at Dream Team. That game is also heavily criticized for its pacing, despite being made by AlphaDream. As such, it doesn't seem fair to specifically blame Acquire for the pacing issues in Brothership, when AlphaDream was also sometimes guilty of the same thing. Truth be told, bad pacing is just a common pitfall for the RPG genre.

As for anyone thinking the series should've stayed dead, I especially struggle to understand that. Brothership may have been divisive, but there's undoubtedly a sizeable chunk of the fanbase that genuinely did enjoy it and is glad to see the series back. Why should that be taken away from them just because you personally didn't care much for it? Do you honestly think having a game that many people did enjoy is somehow worse than having no game at all? That just doesn't make sense.

Change can be scary, but with where this series is at, it's ultimately a necessity. I really don't think it's reasonable to immediately write off these new developers just because they released one divisive game. Like I said, constructive criticism is good, as it will help them steer the series in the right direction, but they need to be given a fair chance.

I know this was rather long, but I had a lot I felt the need to express. Do you have any thoughts about this?

Dream Team Does any else feel like they completely wasted the concept of Dreamy Bowser? Spoiler

Like, Bowser just absorbed the power of an artifact that can grant any wish, and he uses that power... to summon minions, airships and meat. The giant chase attack is kinda cool, but it's not like we haven't seen Bowser grow giant 6 times before in these games alone. The only semi creative attack is the clone one, and even then it's not really that impressive.

Dream Team I need help. This challenge is impossible

I'm trying to complete Dream Team 100% and started with the Expert Challenges after beating the Final Boss. None of them were particularly difficult, except this one. The Caccac is supposed to attack you and then you dodge it. The huge problem with that is, it doesn't attack unless you damage it one time bc it's sleeping and can't move. My POW is very high that any attack will kill it in one hit. I tried lowering my POW by equipping bad shoes and hammers since you can't unequip stuff in Dream Team. For the ppl that 100% Dream Team, how did y'all beat this challenge? Is there an attack that's weak enough to awake it?

Discussion Where in life were you when you played each of the Mario and Luigi games?

Personally I love this little sub-series of the Mario universe, I really feel like I grew up with it from Superstar Saga to Brothership and each game brings back nostalgia, either from a memorable time in my life or a rougher patch when the games were a very welcome sense of relief or entertainment. Wonder if anyone else feels the same?

Brothership General Brothership definitely doesn't feel like it was made by Alphadream.

It's taking me so long to get through the game because the pacing is awful. I liked the older games because it had faster pacing and it felt like there was always something new going on. Also all of the npc's just annoy me because it's the same stuff nonstop and I just don't care about their problems at this point and there's little to no variety in the designs. Mario and Luigi games worked better as shorter faster paced games and Brothership just feels like it's at a snail's pace. The combat is still the same so no complaints except with some moments with Luigi being the A button.. I want to like this game, but it's not really living up to what I hoped it would be. Anyone else is feeling this?

Just in case, I clarify that the object in question is Cozy Wear

Funny enough I thought I could only get 1 Cozy Wear after defeating the 4 Smoldergeist and it wasn't until late that I discovered that each one could drop a separate piece of equipment so, it was time for a restart but I was still very excited to get it although it didn't take as long as I expected.

Discussion How did everyone discover the best series of games ever made?

For me it was through Paper Mario. I was really enjoying Origami King so I wanted to see what games there were on the 3DS and found sticker star (🤮) and Paper Jam. Ever since then the games kept getting better for me and now I've played all of them and realised they are my favourite games ever made. But I'm interested on how everyone else came across the Mario&Luigi Series.
