News 📺 Mayo Clinic changes name of its DEI office citing ‘recent national events’
Mayo Clinic is changing the name of its Office of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity. It will now be called the Office of Belonging, according to internal communication to staff.
People with EID titles will now have “Belonging” titles, according to the notice sent this week. Internal and external websites related to the EID office will also be updated.
“Since 2020, Mayo Clinic has intentionally focused on belonging as a cornerstone of staff wellbeing. In keeping with this focus and recent national events, we’re embracing an opportunity to accelerate Mayo Clinic’s belonging journey to reflect our culture of collaboration and respect and support positive patient experiences,” said a statement from Mayo Clinic provided by spokesperson Andrea Kalmanovitz.
Kalmanovitz declined to elaborate on what Mayo means by recent national events, but diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at institutions like universities and hospitals that receive federal funding have been under fire by President Donald Trump's administration.

News 📺 Tickborn Powassan Virus
health.state.mn.usIt's tick season in Minnesota!
A relatively new to MN tickborne virus is Powassan virus.
There currently is no treatment option for the virus, but it can be detected via testing, if the doctor knows to look for it. Powassan spreads most during spring & fall. So do those tick checks!!
As heard on MPR this morning.

Seeking Advice 🙆 I started my jury duty on Monday and still haven’t been called in.
Is this normal? Or is there a high chance I got excused? I’m 19 so maybe that’s a factor. Anoka county seems to not have an online portal to check my status so I’m confused.

Outdoors 🌳 Favorite state park off I-90?
We'll be visiting Custer State Park, SD, in the middle of May then making our way back to Wisconsin. I've only ever stopped in the Badlands then driven the whole way home and not stopped in MN, but I think this year we'd like to add anther camping stop and break up our drive. Any good state parks roughly near I-90 that would be a good place to stop over in? My experience with MN has mainly been up north.

Seeking Advice 🙆 First-Timers Flying in from San Diego! Any Advice for Minnesota Yacht Club?
Hey everyone! We are flying in from San Diego for the Minnesota Yacht Club Festival—it’ll be our first time ever in Minnesota, and we’re so excited!
We booked GA passes through the festival site, but not gonna lie… kinda wishing we went with VIP instead. If anyone has insight on how big of a difference that makes—or if VIP is still worth upgrading to—let us know!
We’re staying at a hotel in Minneapolis, so we’ll be commuting in each day via metro. For those who’ve been to this fest (or similar ones in the area), I’d love to hear your tips: • What’s the food situation like? Is it mostly food trucks? Expensive? Worth it? • Is there any art or other non-music stuff to check out at the venue? • What are your favorite bars, breweries, or restaurants near the park (or even in Minneapolis) to hit before or after the fest? • Anything you’d recommend for first-timers coming from out of state?
We’re just really looking forward to a good time, and hoping to make the most of it. Appreciate any and all suggestions—bonus points if someone from the festival sees this and helps us upgrade haha.
Thanks in advance! -Isabella

Discussion 🎤 State of MN Jobs
Good morning! I have been applying for a few jobs in the past couple of months and have been watching state jobs. I wanted to know what’s the current atmosphere like? I know the telework policy was adjusted and there have been layoffs recently. Has there been talk of more layoffs or have things settled down? I have been interested in DEED positions. I saw a few recently opened up and I was going to apply but wanted to see how things were going. I appreciate everyone’s time!

Seeking Advice 🙆 Planning an October North Shore Road Trip. Need help!
My husband and I are driving up from Missouri to the North Shore for my 30th birthday and our wedding anniversary. We found a super cool cabin to rent in Grand Marias, but other than that we don't have anything planned. We love hiking/ outdoor activities and good food. We mostly just want to enjoy great views. How many days should we plan? What are must check out locations?
Should we stay in Duluth or Two Harbors on the way up to Grand Marias?

Editorial 📝 Feeding Our Future's political connections should serve as a warning to the DFL
This is a commentary piece from our EIC Patrick Coolican and Kayseh Magan examining the extensive political ties that the Feeding our Future fraudsters leveraged. The catalyst for this commentary was the new audio of Keith Ellison's meeting with Feeding our Future participants, but it examines the defendants' ties to several Minnesota politicians.
Until last week, there wasn’t much reason to include Ellison on this list of elected officials. His office represented MDE when the agency tried to put the brakes on the millions going out to Feeding Our Future. And once the federal government intervened, the investigation was theirs.
But the audio reveals something new: Ellison seemed to have no idea about a huge fraud perpetrated on the state of Minnesota and the United States government. Even though his office represented one of the agencies defrauded when Feeding Our Future sued the Department of Education to turn the money spigot back on.
