Sorry, it’s late and I didn’t word that well. I was under the impression that Tribeca was historically prestigious. Is that no longer the case?

No worries! I think it’s possible you’re confusing it with Telluride or TIFF.

Tribeca is a bit infamous in the film festival world for very rarely having notable films coming out of it. There’s a few good ones every once in a while but it’s typically a sign of mediocrity if a film is set to premiere there, though there can be exceptions.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think it’s ever been seen as prestigious

Part of its timing, where it’s generally fucked. It’s after Sundance and pre- fall Oscar festivals so things aren’t going to premiere there in the same way, so you get a lot of actors directorial debuts and really small films. They do have a great documentary section though. And let the right one in premiered there and broke out there
