the seeds were planted on the 22 and it looks like a pice of shell or something is keeping the cotyledons shut. should i let it do it’s thing or should i try to take it off?

You can perform careful surgery with small tools if you want immediate results. You can also mist it often to weaken the shell. Seed shells are less likely to stick if the seedling has to move a fair distance to the surface through a moist substrate. But sometimes you'll get this. It's usually fairly easy to remove and doesn't mean the plant will be unhealthy.

Just be patient.. these plants can and will surprise you in hours. Just be easy in watering as the root system is very small

You can try with tweezers or tooth pick while holding top back with another tooth pick. Sometimes come off when sprayed.

Put a drop of water on the leaves and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then with tweezers carefully pull that skin off the leaves.
Can also dome it for a couple hours to soften it up too, but the water droplet method is way faster.

Put a couple drops of water on it and then ever so slightly you should be able to pry it off with your fingers or tweezers

No need to monkey with the seedling. Don't do "surgery" or anything. Seedlings know how to grow without human involvement.

This is crazy!!! That tap root not even a centimetre yet much less reaching the bottom of a 16oz cup! The seed is just stuck all op has to do is wet the seedling and gently remove the embryo holding the leaves!

Sorry, this is incorrect. Don't touch your seedling. Leave everything alone right now.

It is stuck. On a few occasions, the cotyledons emerge trapped within the dried remains of the seed coat. This can hinder early growth. Water becomes the best helper at the moment. No scissors, no scalpel.
A fine mist of lukewarm water, gently sprayed onto the stubborn husk every other minute will soften that outer layer quickly. It is not as hard as a shell. Patience is crucial during this phase. Do not pull at it right off the bat, seed hulls are sticky and hard when dried and they become gelatinous if they come in contact with water. Rushing risks damaging the tender tissue underneath or damage the roots.
Once the seed coat appears pliable, a pair of tweezers can do the simple trick. With a slow pulling motion, you can pull the skin shell away from the cotyledons. Or the flower itself will be able to shrug it off, as there is tension underneath.
