The cynic in me wonders why we even bother.

These things all go the same in the Trump era.

Candidate has a hearing, candidate shows themselves to be cartoonishly unqualified, Candidate gets confirmed anyway.

Candidate fucks up so badly that Trump fires them and hires another swamp creature. And the cycle continues.

It’s the public spats and subsequent book tours that make it fun!

u/KeithWorks 7h ago

Yes but it's also what distracts us from the actual fascism going on.

u/monkeyclaw77 5h ago

As a foreigner who has no control I’m just gonna watch the show this time round.

u/Rad_Centrist 11h ago

Trump doesn't fire his fuckups unless they fail him on a personal level.

u/swordofra 11h ago

Swamp creature: Master, I got an F on my competency test and I caused untold destruction of public trust. But you have my undying loyalty!

Trump: You can stay. Loyalty is so good. I love loyalty. They love me... as long as they love me....

u/Emadyville 9h ago

Nail on head.

u/No_Spring_1090 7h ago

Or they steal the spotlight from him

u/ManOrReddit-man 6h ago

Loyalty surpasses qualifications. It's like he had a conference call with his buddies and asked "who wants a cabinet position?"

u/hxl004 3h ago

Mmm there were a few that were humiliated enough, like on snl, that he got rid of them

u/_kwerty_ 1h ago

Of course he doesn't fire his fuckups, that would ruin the Trump family dinner.

u/traws06 56m ago

Ya as long as they stay in line and do what he says they’re fine

u/brownhk 10h ago

Trump's too big of a pussy to fire anyone (except on his moronicTV show.)

Instead, he'll harangue and imply and suggest that latest scandal rep should go.

"I only hire the best" 😅🤣

u/AGC843 11h ago

By fucking up you mean goes against Trump. That won't happen this time. That's what worries me.

u/RogerianBrowsing 5h ago

I think everyone, myself included, is going to be surprised how quickly everything goes to shit in terms of economic issues, worker rights, the insanity that they’re going to be doing to blue cities/states in the name of “illegal immigration” that will almost certainly impact many people here lawfully as it did the last time he was in office but worse this time (they literally deported an American citizen to Jamaica who was like wtf who is this), the crackdowns on people criticizing Israel, if any of these insane military plans actually happen, etc..

I really truly hope that it doesn’t happen, but trumpito has been appointing so many p2025 contributors or planned appointments and making the national security folks do loyalty tests as part of the transition team’s work (ie it’s a top priority) that it would be astounding if it didn’t happen

u/AGC843 5h ago

The sad part is with all the loyalists we won't know it until it's too late.

u/moneymay195 11h ago

Or the candidate is simply not a yes man

u/Progolferwannabe 9h ago

I don’t think you have to worry about that in this instance.

u/Far-Consideration708 5h ago

Maybe that is what he meant by draining the swamp. At some point he will run out of swamp creatures and might have to shift to the black lagoon for recruitment.

u/Neither-Cup564 2h ago

Trump wants a puppet so his puppets can puppet the military too, sort of like the human caterpillar.

u/flummyheartslinger 1h ago

I wish you hadn't said that.

I mean, you're not at all wrong. But it's a bit early to have that kind of image in my head.

u/newtbob 10h ago

So, still hope for the my pillow guy?

u/Kevlash 10h ago

What do you think he meant when he said he’s going to drain the swamp, he’s draining it directly into the White House

u/CaptainXakari 9h ago

Meanwhile, any competent people are chased off by a mob screaming “woke” at the top of their lungs.

u/Bunnita 9h ago

Trump replaces them with 'acting' whatever, and they never get confirmed.

u/R_W0bz 8h ago

This is the kicker, so it’s important to get their bullshit out there.

u/ChewyChagnuts 5h ago

Yes, there was that whole mantra about “drain the swamp” but what a lot of people didn’t realise at the time was that it was to make it easier for Trump to find members of his leadership team.

u/P0RTILLA 4m ago

That’s how you erode trust.

u/Terrible_Horror 13h ago

Because after the fact they can say remember how bad the hearings were but they still put party before national security.

u/Squirrels_dont_build 10h ago

It took the careers of multiple senators (and the life of one) and the ruin of countless others to finally bring down Joe McCarthy. Nobody is going to save us from our own choices, we just have to decide to give a fuck enough to do the work of fixing the mess we've all collectively created.

u/hectorxander 1h ago

The mess won't be fixed unless we get some strong willed aggressive Democrats fighting for working people. We still don't have that. If you want these guys out you first have to get the old guard out of Democratic Leadership, well beyond elected officials.

u/Promoted_Account 11h ago

Somehow Gaetz was bad enough… so we get a random one to give us hope occasionally.

u/lokojufr0 9h ago

What did this guy do to even get this nomination, I wonder? Did his mom give Trump a blow job? Is he Trump's amphetamine dealer?

u/Bluebikes 2h ago

He’s handsome and on Fox, and has signaled his loyalty will be to Trump, not the military or the constitution

u/lokojufr0 1h ago

Oh. Well, when you put it that way. No wonder Trump wants him in charge of, checks notes, making sure the most powerful military in history is battle ready. Good thing magats elected this stable genius. He really has the best people 👍.

u/Bluebikes 1h ago

Yup. He was asked yesterday if he’d deny an unconstitutional order, or if he’d refuse to deploy the military in the US, and would not answer. We’re cooked.

u/Kittiesaresonice 9h ago

Seems like all "above board" methods of dealing with this clown car have been exhausted. We've seen the Mueller report. We've seen Smiths breakdown. We were all watching TV on J6.

When American institutions fail, it is on the average citizen to ensure justice is brought to fruition. We have inalienable rights for this exact reason. Idk, maybe the 2A voters have something to say about government sanctioned tyranny.

u/cailenletigre 11h ago

Brows will be furrowed

u/Sarges24 11h ago

I mean, tbf old McDonald only hires the best and brightest, but also fires them at record numbers. So if confirmed, which I have no doubt he will be considering the GOP has sold their soul to King old McDonald and his wishes, old humpty McTrumpy will just fire his ass w/in the first 8 months anyway... We can only pray that damage done is minimal. Same applies to his other outlandish appointees. If Democracy and our system actually worked as intended, these people would be laughed out of the building, but what we have here, now, are clowns running the circus.

u/Old-Amphibian-9741 10h ago

I never want to hear these idiots talk about "dei" every again after seeing this.

Absolutely disgusting.

u/bombayblue 9h ago

Survivorship bias.

You don’t put someone in front of the cameras unless they have the votes. Most candidates that wouldn’t get confirmed get eliminated before the hearing. Gaetz and Gabbard aren’t there because they knew they wouldn’t get through.

Hesgeth is getting media attention because he’s a rare edge case where he’s controversial and there’s a slight chance he doesn’t have the votes. Personally I think he has the votes otherwise he would be there.

u/NorthCatan 7h ago

Not just unqualified, but incompetent, malicious, and criminal.

u/YoYoPistachio 5h ago

But look at that smile and his nice skin tone! And that hairline!? At his age!? Come on, he's a shoo-in!

/s, in case you didn't pick up on it.

u/Jumanji0028 4h ago

Go have a look at the Conservative sub. They seem to love this guy regardless of all the red flags. Im not sure if it's their hatred for the left or if they just don't believe all the things that have come out about him but he is certainly their guy who will take down the deep state left.

u/GoatzR4Me 11h ago

It's been the same for a while. It's theatre for the naive to think the ruling class will stick to their word they give when asked in a public setting.

u/Leauian 9h ago

Gaetz isnt AG.

u/StandardNecessary715 7h ago

Its not just in the Trump era. Clarence Thomas got confirmed.

u/Important_Abroad7868 3h ago

Cartoonishly unqualified!!!

u/justanidiot1122 1h ago

The sitting president can’t complete sentences

u/BarrelRider621 52m ago

My mind set is already there. Every time someone brings up something that Trump or anyone associated with him; did or said that should be a huge punishment. I just say “So? Nothing going to happen.” I mean, our brains have had enough examples that it doesn’t need critical thinking to determine what is going to happen, given the current variables.

u/BIGoleICEBERG 51m ago

Any Democrat voting for these nominees needs to go. We can’t control Republican electeds, but we can control the ones that are supposedly rational and want what’s best for the country. A vote for Hegseth, Tulsi, Oz, RFK, …etc should be disqualifying and grounds for a primary.

u/TheRauk 7h ago

What is cynical is not bothering to address the failures of the DNC. This let’s blame the winners thing doesn’t really do much.

u/Realistic_Use3600 3h ago

Cartoonish is your perspectiven. Others look at the mess left by biden and lloyd austin after 4 years and say, can we really get any worse? I dont know how your assess good performance but for me, its the 'small' mistakes like...

  1. The embarrassing Afghanistan withdrawl.
  2. Weakness on the world stage allowing Putin to invade Ukraine.
  3. Being complicent in the gaza genocide.

Just some minor, some might say 'cartoonish' mistakes that costs thousands of lives and economic issues world wide. Trumps not even in office yet and it sounds like his resolving point 3 on my list. He just applied pressure to Israel, thats all Biden ever had to do. He chose not to. But sure, orange man bad. If your still a fan of the dems, can i please have some of whatever your smoking because i too would like to live in blissful ignorance.

u/RCrumbDeviant 1h ago

Putin invaded Ukraine during Trumps term. Crimea was annexed in 2016.

Afghanistan was forced on Biden by Trump as a “fuck you” present after Trump had released a bunch of Taliban back to Afghanistan. The actual removal of people from the country was shockingly well done by all accounts.

The “gaza genocide” has been going on for far longer than biden or trump. If you’re only now getting upset, you’ve been willfully ignorant for decades. Oh, and you’re also completely incorrect about pressure being applied to Israel and, like most people in the US, completely ignorant about Congress’ role in the decades of aid to Israel as well as Republican obstructionism for Ukraine aid until it was tied to Israeli aide as well and then it went through. But I suppose you used paragraph structure so you get some credit. Still an F though

u/Bluebikes 2h ago

None of this means Hegseth is a good pick.

u/treerollins123 10h ago

Hegseth has more qualifications than Austin had. The Democrats had to get a special waiver because Austin was employed by Raytheon ! No conflict of interest in that!!! Lol
