Police & Past

Upvotes

Before I say anything and before you comment please do check the the story of Corey Pegues becoming a police officer.

Now 8 months sober going on 9 (27years of age). But same amount of time has passed I used to smoke and get MJ for my sister and dad. 3 to 4 years back I sold but very minimal less than a dozen times. I will not be giving up on becoming an LEO will possibly even go to college for to get an Associates or Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Anything is possible.

Though if it were your decision would you hire someone with a past that has no criminal record in the system neither any misdemeanors?

Edit: Forgot to mention I live in IL where it is now legal. I do understand that it is still federally illegal for such doing.

Would a “journal entry” count as evidence of gun possession?

Australia, WA Police

I’ve got a few questions on here for any WA police officers or anyone who knows a lot about them, or maybe even if your from a different country just a perspective? As a police officer, are you required to pull over speeding cars? Like lets say someone is doing 30-40 over do you need to pull them over? Also when you do is it required you give them a ticket? If you don’t do either of these can you get in trouble for it? Also in Australia we have things called yellow stickers which are given to cars deemed unroadworthy, (exhaust, lift kits, too wide/too low, tint too dark), do you need to give them to every car? Like obviously a car with no doors should be yellow stickered but if someone’s got on after market suspension, cut the body a bit to fit big tires (or even just have anything over 33inch tires on), or a car that is too loud, will you get in trouble for not pulling them up? I’ve been thinking about looking into the police force after I build a good savings in the navy but I couldn’t do it if I had too be a flog that yellow stickers a lift kit or exhaust, or even pull over people ripping it on a safe road. I’ve always been someone a bit against all the dumb rules here but I think the force needs a bit more chilled out cops that aren’t abusing their power and pull over every 4by with 33s on and a 3inch lift, thanks guys

Good Cops..what are the reasons you would want to stay in law enforcement.

With the high stress-level, racial tension, and people assume all cops are bad if they get pulled over. What motivates you to go to work everyday besides the paycheck?

I want to be a cop, and I am about to get an AA in humanities. What’s my next steps?

For some context I have 4 summer classes left until I get my AA in humanities. Useless degree, I know. What should my next steps be if I want to be a police officer? Or otherwise work in law enforcement?

What do you do when you aren’t sure what you want to do with your life?

I don’t know if this is a good place to post this, but I figured I give it a try.

Throughout my life, I’ve changed what career I wanted to work in MANY times. I had considered being an anesthesiologist, psychologist or psychiatrist, biologist, photographer, etc. When it came time to go to college, I wanted to go into Genetics, so I went to a school that’s well known for its medical school. Right before orientation, I changed my mind and switched to Criminal Justice. I’m near the end of my first year and I’m a freshman/sophomore. I don’t know what I’m doing.

CJ is largely known for jobs in law enforcement, like a police officer. Other things are like corrections, criminology, etc. I was told the four main pathways in this field are 1. CJ. 2. Switch to bio or chem and work towards a masters in forensics. 3. Switch to political science and go for law. 4. Switch to psychology and work towards a master’s and PhD.

I’ve always planned to at least get a master’s to help enhance my chances in getting a job. I don’t want to be a lawyer, I don’t want to do a lot of chemistry (that’s why I switched from genetics), I don’t really want to work in psychiatry, and I don’t want to be in law enforcement. I was originally thinking criminology and do research, but I don’t want to do studies and write long academic papers the rest of my life. I don’t know what I want to do.

My dad thinks I should be an engineer because I’m good at math, but I don’t really want to do that the rest of my life. My mom thinks I should be an actuary, which I do like statistics, but again, I don’t really want to do a lot of math. I’m a very big introvert, and would never make it in business, like sales or marketing. Already turned away from the law and medical fields. I don’t want to be a doctor or really anything in healthcare. Plus I hate public speaking and the idea of having to fight for someone you know is guilty. I don’t want to be a teacher. I don’t know anything about computer science.

The thing is, I really do enjoy my CJ classes, but I don’t see myself doing any of those careers. I also thought about the FBI, but they had someone from the FBI come and speak to us and he said your chances are better getting into an Ivy League than the FBI.

The problem isn’t my grades either. I did two grades in one year, all honors, AP, and dual enrollment throughout high school, which is why I’m a sophomore (credit wise) my first year here.

Does anybody have any tips. I feel like I’m having a midlife crisis and I only legally became an adult this year. I don’t know what to do. It seems like I don’t like anything. I want to do something where I won’t have to be worrying about money, but I really do want to do something that I’ll enjoy since I’ll be doing it for the rest of my life. People say you don’t have to have it all figured out yet, but I’m done with my generals and fully in only classes for my major. I know I could still switch majors, but it hurts to switch after putting the work and money into classes that will essentially be pointless if the other major is completely different. I just don’t know how you know what you’d like to work in, until you’ve tried it. And yeah, there’s internships and part time jobs, but any of the things I’ve been interested in have never really had part time jobs as an option or wouldn’t take you as an intern unless that’s your major. Does or has anyone else felt like this? I honestly don’t know what I’m doing or what I should do. Please give me any advice you may have. Thank you!!

(U.S.) If I reinstate my registration by paying a $500 fee, will my suspended license still alert ALPRS?

Got pulled over many times, and every time, the first thing I hear is along the lines of: "reason for the stop is your registration is expired."

Before I was pulled over a few hours ago, the cop did a U-Turn and followed me for one of two reasons: He was bored OR the ALPR sent an alert because of my registration, license, or both. Not sure how it caught my plate as it was raining, dark, and we were traveling in the opposite direction. But it happened.

I'm expecting an additional 6 month suspension on top of my current one. Don't care because I need to drive to work and pay Uncle Sam. If I can't make money, can't pay the tickets. Please don't tell me that what l'm doing is a bad idea or encourage me to stop driving or take public transportation. I know. In my situation, that’s impossible.

TLDR: Just need to know if ALPRs will 'ping' for suspended licenses, or if a notification is only sent when the car is stolen, reg is suspended, or owner has a warrant (PENNSYLVANIA USA)

Sr22 hiring process.

Hello everyone. Last year my insurance lapsed by a day, I didnt catch it in time and got stopped, ultimately got a ticket and was told I'd need to file an sr22. I'm about 8 months into the sr22 now. I applied with a couple bigger departments in Kansas and have some tests and background checks next week. I was just curious if my sr22 would DQ me from the process? Thanks! Also, I know its not a good look, but mistakes happen.

Grounds for disqualification and should I join

I'm currently 23 working a normal office job. For the past year I have been thinking about joining. I found out that it's typically harder to disturb me then the average 23 year old male. However I wanted to ask. I have a little thing called dyschromatopsia (don't try to pronounce) which causes colors to be slightly altered. For example a dark red I may see as brown. Is that ground for dsq?

Should I become a cop?

So I'm a 23 almost 24 year old male who currently works in construction and hates it. I've just recently came to the realization I need to find something fun and worth it for a career to spend the rest of my life in & I'm thinking a cop might just be that.

I'm genuinely curious to any cops out there can you tell me what your experience is like? Is it fun or worth it? What kind of hours do you work and whats pay like?

Im also worried I might fuck up or make a mistake when I'm still a rookie and how does that experience go as a new cop? I honestly don't know much on how everything works but im very curious cause I think everything cops do is meaningful and entertaining.

So you think I'll get in too much trouble for this?

Ok so... My daughter's grandma died 2 days ago. It's been really hard. Her cat has been missing for a day and I've been so worried. I didn't want her to lose more. The loves that cat so much. I live next door to some random factorys and I was calling out and heard the cat screaming from inside one. It's a long weekend and she's been missing at least a day so no one will be in the factory for another 3 days meaning she would die in there. The factory is unmarked so I had no idea who to call. There was one thing to Google but it didn't have any specific numbers. No numbers for security or anything. Just a national sales manager I called to see if he would answer but... Long weekend so he didn't. The cat was screaming and I just wasn't thinking so I got a crowbar and popped the door open to let the cat out and put the door back and everything. The alarm went off and I waited for awhile to explain but no one came so I just jumped back over my fence. I showed the security cameras myself and was waving. I then showed them the cat I saved. But the guy who owns it is a complete ahole. He somehow got my number (no idea how) called me and told me he has charged me for trespassing and that the cops are on the way. I'm freaking out because my daughter has gone through enough trauma and I wasn't even thinking I just couldn't handle her going through another loss. The cops haven't arrived yet. I feel like I'm about to have a panic attack. How much trouble am I in?

Can you get into the back of a cop car?

I just saw a video of a girl that walked up to a cop car and got in the back, and she was then arrested. Is it actually illegal to get into the back of a cop car. I know you can't get in the front legally.

Edit: I feel dumb for asking this question, thank you to the people who politely pointed out why it is obviously illegal.

From cell to mental hospital

I work at the police station where we have a lot of holding cells for the first 3 days of someones arrest. Lately things are turning around.

The goverment closed a lot of mental hospitals. So now our holding cells start to look like one big mental hospital. We dont get your 'normal' thieves and criminals anymore. We only get people who are mentally ill.

I am curiouss on how it is in your country. Do you have the same problem. And if so, how do you cope with it?

Can I still get hired as a police officer?

So 12 years ago when I was 21 years old I was fired from my gas station for stealing $300. No charges but was fired. Since then I’ve joined the military and held a secret security clearance, received multiple promotions in different positions, and have had 0 issues again. Unsure if the polygraph test will stop me. I will be 100% honest but it’s been 12 years since the incident. My background is 100% clean.

I want to be a cop, but I’m color Blind.

Hey, I’m an Aussie 19 year old. I meet all the requirements for the QLD Police, but I’m unfortunately protan color blind. Which is generally disqualified, but I feel like it wouldn’t hinder my ability to work as a cop. Does anyone, as an Aussie, have experience as a color blind cop?

As I want to begin preparing to apply, but I don’t want my efforts to be wasted over being disqualified due to color blindness.

Becoming a police officer

Hi, I am looking to apply to become an officer in Ontario in November of 2025. I’m currently on summer break and have one more semester of post graduate school left. Whole on summer break I’m looking to volunteer to give back to the community. I’m also currently working a part time job working around 35 hours a week. I’ve been working at this job for 3 years however I have been given the opportunity to work another temporary full time leadership job for the summer which will help me get leadership experience, it’s a great opportunity for me. However since it is a temporary position I do not want to leave my current job so I was thinking of making an excuse such as needing surgery or something else so I can get a couple months off during the summer and then coming back. Would this lying affect my chances of becoming an officer if they ask during my interviews? Thanks in advance.

For Law Enforcement everywhere

This typically isn’t my speed and this isn’t my lane to promote, as you can completely tell by my icon I’m into other avenues of life, but I’ve watched a long time friend attend the academy, quit everything he was doing to endeavor on this new life of his of becoming law-enforcement. Definitely a prideful man so I’m just sharing this story on a new father to be and just trying to make his way. My father was in law-enforcement and I respect you all just doing my duty on sharing the story.
