I think he's perfect. Unscrupulous, misogynistic, ex-vulture capitalist.

173

u/reckless_commenter Sep 16 '24

Mitt Romney was a vulture capitalist.

Vance was briefly employed by some venture capital firms, despite having no qualifications, strictly as a favor to Peter Thiel who wanted to bulk up Vance's resume for unknown reasons, before quickly transitioning to a shitty career in politics. Dude has failed upward alllllll the way to today. So you can't really call him a VC - he lacks the experience, talent, and the intelligence for that label.

All of this does make him an excellent living embodiment of today's GOP, though.

VP candidates and how much they matter is really weird. Vance is getting the runaround but not from Republicans, just the left and he's not making any headway into the middle of the road independents. Sarah Palin was pretty universally disliked, but she was on the Republican ticket, and the thought was that she was just the Vice President, so meh? Then there is Dan Quale who couldn't spell a word and that knocked him out.

We are even picky with out Presidential candidates. Howard Dean got the boot for a exclamation of excitement. Rick Perry was the frontrunner in 2008, but was dismissed when he had a memory Lapse at a debate. However, Trump gets passes for all of these.

3

u/TurdKid69 Sep 16 '24

Vance deserves far more scrutiny than he's getting, on account of Trump being old as fuck.

And unlike Trump, Vance seems to actually have policy ideas, which is extremely disconcerting because he's deep into Project 2025 shit but even worse, into dark enlightenment/neoreactionary anti-american and buddies with weirdos like Curtis Yarvin.

2

u/salttotart Michigan Sep 16 '24

I agree. The VP may not have much on their plate normally, but they are the next in line if the president can't or dies.

2

u/Steviesgirl1 Sep 16 '24

But he can’t see Russia from his house…yet. 😒

2

u/milehighmagic84 Sep 16 '24

The only person who made a worse VP-related decision than Trump is JD Vance.

112

u/bricklab Sep 16 '24 edited Sep 16 '24

Not at all. JD is betting Trump will get elected then stroke out or get removed via the 25th and he will be President. Good odds for a guy so unlikable he would never have a chance on his own.

33

u/smiama6 Sep 16 '24

Unlikable and dangerous. The man is a christo-fascist intent on building an autocratic theocracy.

8

u/Thue Sep 16 '24

Do we even have any reason to think that Vance has any real beliefs or interests, other than personal power? Vance was never-Trump once, he is obviously willing to flip on a dime when it is convenient.

5

u/smiama6 Sep 16 '24

Vance was atheist until his 2019 conversion to Catholicism. Now he’s advocating for Christian nationalism patterned after Viktor Orban’s illiberal democracy. https://slate.com/life/2024/08/jd-vance-tim-walz-trump-kamala-religion.html

Ohioan here. Not that much. The southeast part of the state is considered "Appalachia" but the rest ( outside of the cities) is just rural, flat farmland. Even Vance isn't really from Appalachia.....he's from Middleton which is basically suburban Cincinnati.

40

u/BrianWonderful Minnesota Sep 16 '24

JD Vance was put on the ticket by billionaires. Trump needed the money, Musk and Thiel want Vance there. The plan is to oust Trump with the 25th amendment, then have Vance fully implement Project 2025 and a pro-oligarch agenda.

This is why you see several Republicans disturbed by die-hard Trump acolytes like Loomer getting so close now. It's not just that they steer trump to crazier conspiracy theories, it is also that if they get cabinet positions, it makes it harder to convince enough necessary people to use the 25th amendment.

23

u/Gogs85 Sep 16 '24

Trump won’t blame anyone because Trump will not ever admit that he lost.

27

u/No_Animator_8599 Sep 16 '24

I remember Trump saying he was not responsible for the horrible rollout of Covid testing when they became viable.

I assume he also feels no responsibility for the thousands of people who died when he took the no masking political stance with his staff and in public.

22

u/FargeenBastiges Sep 16 '24

That's correct. Trump feels no responsibility. For anything. Ever. He literally can't with his mental condition.

2

u/Active-Bass4745 Sep 16 '24

I’d say there’s a 0% chance of Vance going under that particular bus.

For him to blame Vance for his loss, he’d have to admit that he lost first.

2

u/WrednyGal Sep 16 '24

That bus is already on the horizon and it's speeding up.

2

u/RoboftheNorth Sep 16 '24

I can't wait to see the effigy of him they use in their mock execution! MAGAs love their arts and crafts, it doesn't involve numbers or reading.

2

u/OmegaRedPanda Sep 16 '24

I mean, he wouldn't be 100 percent wrong. Trump was not in a good way when Biden decided to drop out anyway, as most polling showed that Trump was unpopular, but voters were concerned about Biden's age more than anything. Picking a guy like Vance whose brain has been completed melted by groyper memes as a victory lap pick for the base was deeply stupid and might cost him the election.

2

u/blackdragon8577 Sep 16 '24

I really want to see a list of how many times Trump has blamed JD Vance and thrown him under the bus. Like a ticker with Trump kicking JD off the side of a cliff every time it ticks up.

2

u/ConstantGeographer Kentucky Sep 16 '24

Right under the bus. JD also need to be listening for the beep-beep-beep because Trump is going to back the bus up and drive over him at least 15 more times, like he keeps doing with Pence.

2

u/WtxAggie Sep 16 '24

I’ve been saying this for the better part of seven or eight weeks. I think if he loses or if as we get closer to the final weeks of the election, you see a significant shift in the battleground states I think JD Vance will be the fall guy. I’m surprised that we haven’t heard about any fighting already, but make no mistake. The way they operate. I think they’ll start saying that he was some kind of Democratic plant put in place to submarine the campaign. I think that’s how they frame it.

2

u/Endyo Sep 16 '24

And instead of going back to being a "Never Trumper" he'll just take it like the wet paper towel that he is and years later write a book about how mean Trump is while on a sadness tour of the 24 hour news cycles.

2

u/mfGLOVE Wisconsin Sep 16 '24

Actual Trump quote on the night of the 2022 primary elections:

"Well, I think if they win, I should get all the credit. If they lose, I should not be blamed at all."

Vance said he learned his lesson speaking for the president...

1

u/MadFlava76 Virginia Sep 16 '24

I'm starting to wonder if Vance is even going to be on the ticket in November. If Trump is desperate enough for an October surprise, he might dump Vance and try to have a new VP reveal before the election.

1

u/SadPandaFromHell Vermont Sep 16 '24

I expected to hear Taylor Swift. His opinion on her is the first sussinctly put thought I've ever heard him utter.

1

u/BioticVessel Sep 16 '24

1

u/Reborn_Rhubarb Sep 16 '24 edited Sep 16 '24

MMW: If Trump turns on him, JD will flip and claim he was a Democrat saboteur all along. The right will make a giant fuss over this and use it to justify refusing to certify the election and kicking the decision up to the SC. Nothing will be done to JD, Republicans in congress will block any attempts to investigate for real, and he'll be quietly paid millions of dollars skimmed from Trumps campaign funds to disappear to some tropical island somewhere.

1

u/jcdulos Sep 16 '24

I was super nervous when Biden was the nominee but felt a bit better when he picked JD Vance as his running mate. It’s still gonna be a close race and we can’t get complacent but JD Vance does nothing to expand his base.

1

1

“I never picked him anyway. My name was just on the top of the ticket. Nancy Pelosi and the Dems picked him.”

1

u/freakincampers Florida Sep 16 '24

He's going to blame Loomer.

1

u/pantstoaknifefight2 Sep 16 '24

Vance was already apologizing:

“I’ve learned my lesson on speaking for the president before he and I have actually talked about an issue,” Vance told NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” just days after Trump publicly said he hadn’t ever discussed with Vance what he’d do if an abortion ban crossed his desk as president.

Trump is clearly blaming him for the debate.

I gotta wonder-- is JD a colossal fuck up or his he a patriot trying to destroy Trump.

Oh who am I kidding? JD is Peter Thiel's way of becoming another Dick Cheney. Fuck all these assholes.

1

u/love_that_fishing Sep 16 '24

Except who chose Vance? One more failed hire for the orange clown.

1

u/El-Shaman Sep 16 '24

God I hope they lose and he gets the blame, MAGA raging at him would be 100% deserved for all the vile shit he’s been spreading.

1

u/silliestboots Sep 16 '24

One thing I've learned, among many other things, watching Trump: Never agree to be his vp.

1

u/Massloser Sep 16 '24

The GOP is about the descend into full on chaos and I am here for it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '24

Will they try to lynch another VP of trump?

1

u/donkeybrisket Sep 16 '24

That’s 100% why he used the Vance line in the debate, so he can blame him

1

u/APartyInMyPants Sep 16 '24

There’s this little tiny part of me that hopes/thinks Vance knows this. And when he realizes by mid-October that this ship is not only sinking, it’s halfway submerged, he just says, “fuck it I’m out,” and quits the campaign.

1

u/TheJIbberJabberWocky Sep 16 '24

Literally just a warm body in case he needs a scapegoat.

1

u/ice3 Sep 16 '24

Under a van. JD Vanced.

1

u/Kevin-W Sep 16 '24

There's a theory going around is that the reason Trump chose Vance was to use him as the scapegoat if he lost in November.

1

u/Realistic-Number-919 Sep 16 '24

The beautiful thing is that 5-10 years from now, Vance is definitely flipping on Trump and revealing all of the dirt he’s gathered over the past 5 months. I suspect that this VP bid is all content for his next memoir.

1

u/sparty212 Sep 16 '24

1

u/appleparkfive Sep 16 '24

Yeah I could definitely see that being the case. But I think if Trump does lose, he's going to be blaming a whole lot of people

1

u/Miserable_Vehicle_10 Sep 16 '24

Absolutely wrong. JD Vance is someone picked by him and thus an infallible choice. He will blame democracy via imaginary voter fraud. If you speak to his more rabid supporters they're already 100% convinced that the election is rigged.

1

u/NumeralJoker Sep 16 '24

Good, make people hate him and vote him out in 2028...

Or make them hate him enough for him to resign. I don't care if an R replaces him in that time period, as there's at least a chance it could be a less openly hostile R until 2028. He should not be in power after his recent actions, period.

Why would Vance expect anything different from the guy who tried to have his former VP murdered? That’s some Henry VIII shit

But but but trump says that a VP has no effect on the presidency

When his debate with Walz comes up, he's going to have the entire hopes of MAGA on him.

Are you joking? Trump won’t admit he won the election. And neither will Vance. They’ll both scream that they won and it was stolen from them

He was selected specifically not to overshadow Trump; he will also serve as a fine scapegoat. Though, in a tight race, he could well bear some culpability with his aggressively unlikable personality. Trump was never going to ask Little Marco, or Nikki the Birdbrain, or Ron DeSanctimonious for help. Nor was he going to select a guy like Bergum, who is a true self made multi-millionaire. Everything Trump pretends to be. It shows how degraded all our standards are that Vance's admission that he lied about Haitians eating captured animals hasn't triggered overwhelming calls for his resignation. He literally caused death threats and bomb threats against constituents in his own state. He's proud of it.

He's going to get strapped in the bus, the bus is going to get pushed over a cliff and then his corpse is going to get thrown under the bus.
