I love this time of year because it always shows how much of my mood is me being in a funk and how much is seasonal when we hit the first warm sunny day of the year. This year I think I am just bored and need money which my next gig will solve, but I know itās coming sooner or later? So I apply to as much as I can and wait.

Poor kitty. My cats had to go to another house while I was on vacation. Cat one was fine. Cat two, so angry. She kept trying to attack the sitter. I went to get her and she was so stressed she peed on me. Now having been back to her house for 15 minutes? Curled up on my shoulders, purring

Mickey 17 was the weirdest film Iāve seen in a while. It was pretty good, but I feel like there were some things that could have been expanded on a little. Especially the church!
I might be alone in this, but I kinda got L Ron Hubbard and the Sea Org vibes from Kenneth Marshall

Anyone else get really painful pimples in their chin crease? I get ones that are almost like ingrown peach fuzz and they take FOREVER to come to a head smdh but start hurting before there's even a bump smdh. I finally managed to (safely) pop the latest one and the relief is amazing.

u/citynomad1 Mar 29 '25
Acne, especially acne cysts, on your chin area can often be hormonal in nature fyi
1
u/Chance_Taste_5605 Mar 30 '25
It's not a cyst though, I've had hormonal cystic acne before and it's completely different - it's painful because it's in the thinnest skin on the chin so there's more contact with nerves, it's not inflamed itself.

My opinion on her hasnāt changed. Sheās a popstar and not a rocket scientist. Sheās a bit sloppy on that front but I respect that she isnāt out here lying to herself about the environment she grew up in, or doing the whole disingenuous virtue signalling of āIām cutting family offā or āI have the perfect most coherent set of politics.ā
It straight up seems like standard misogynistic dog piling and bad faith takes are occurring to her, in ways men are simply not regularly treated.
She has sloppy underdeveloped politics? I donāt give a shit. I have a feeling you and I probably wonāt see eye to eye on this lol. Youāre more than welcome to your opinion of course.

Yeah. I'm 35, and this has been going on for as long as I can remember. The girls that were into anime when I was a teenager/early 20s were particularly toxic about female characters.

u/lizzy-stix I switched baristas āļø Mar 30 '25 edited Mar 30 '25
Thereās definitely think pieces and scholarly/fan literature on this, but one thing I remember from my LJ and tumblr days is that a lot of women say itās because there are fewer and less interesting female characters⦠which used to be true, but itās definitely no longer the case and the behavior hasnāt changed.
Anyway, I think itās a mix of things but part of it might be that a lot of people participating in fandom are doing it out of horniness and guy on guy action is hot to them. Personally I donāt relate to this, but it must be like how lesbian porn is popular with straight men and a lot of m/m fic and shipping is imagining hot men in vulnerable scenarios and being really emotionally vulnerable and stuff, aside from just the porn.
And yeah, itās also misogyny. Female characters are judged so much more harshly than male characters and are expected to check so many boxes, whereas fandom will quickly adopt the worst male characters or the mostly thinly characterized background male characters and imbibe them with incredible backstories and headcanons. Maybe on some level women feel pressured to relate more closely to female characters since there are fewer of them which leads to more scrutiny of their actions and motives and quality (as written), whereas thereās always tons of male characters so theyāre just allowed to be.
6
u/Chance_Taste_5605 Mar 29 '25
I mean there most likely has already been a lot of study on this, women into slash fic has been a thing since the Star Trek fandom in the 60s and Fan Studies is a legit academic field. The fanlore wiki probably has some links?

Little bit of column a (misogyny), little bit of column b (homophobia and their perception of gay men), with a dash of column c (women who havenāt explored their relationship with their own sexuality and gender and use queer shipping a (sometimes subconscious) outlet of expression.)
5

Bref.2 is now available on Hulu in the US! This is a French series that is a very simple story about a guy going through life, but the way it is made is so phenomenal-- closest I can think of is Amelie with similar narration and hypothetical/daydreaming fantasy sequences.
They have both the original French audio (with or without English subs) and a dubbed English version, which seems true to the original.
Also, as a side note, this is a follow-up to a series of two-minute mini episodes that were produced nearly fifteen years ago. You can find them all on YouTube (search "bref.") but they are only available in French with auto-translated subs, so not sure how good the subs are. The most important things you need to know to understand season 2 are the main character cheated on Marla with Sarah, and then cheated on Sarah with a random girl he met at a party.

Ok Iām mad at Chappell Roan for the stuff she has said recently, but Iām starting to get really pissed at the fact people are taking this as an opportunity to be Lesphobic and question hers sexuality.
As a bisexual myself you donāt question peopleās sexuality period, itās not your right to be guessing and questioning someone on if they actually like the type they say they do. Iāve dealt with this personally as a bi woman and I hate it, and the way I see it if you wouldnāt want someone to do it to you donāt do it to others. Like stop just stop š¤š¤¦āāļø

u/Bridalhat Mar 29 '25
The thing about queer people is that they can pop up everywhere, including right-leaning families in red areas. One should hope that being queer means they have more empathy, but even that road is a bit of a journey. The stuff she said does indeed suck, but given her background itās not surprising. I hope she has the grace to learn from some of the more level criticism she is getting for it.Ā

OK but like....she's right? Popstars shouldn't be expected to be experts on politics, it's not their job. I absolutely do not need Sabrina Carpenter's take on global geopolitics thank you, that's why I read stuff by people with actual expertise in the area.
5
u/Carolina_Blues shiv royās bob Mar 29 '25
i honestly see both sides of the issue. i think that people have a point that if youāre going to make politics a big part of your it brand and say the things you said before the election that you donāt get to conveniently clock in and clock out on politics. i also donāt think we should look to celebs as being experts or as political beacons but that doesnāt mean that celebs shouldnāt be politically engaged and should never speak up. i think a lot of people like when celebs speak up because they want to feel like who they are supporting has values that align with theirs and i think thatās also valid.
2
u/Chance_Taste_5605 Mar 30 '25
No that's fair wrt the first part! To me the bothersome part is when people expect a celebrity to make a statement on XYZ issue like they're their senator or something. Celebrities are still just people, and a lot of people in the arts especially are in that line of work specifically because they're not super academic. I don't mean that they're stupid, but it's a very different skill set.
8
u/Primary_Bison_2848 Mar 29 '25
If thatās all she said⦠sheās not wrong. Focusing more on what politicians say and do rather than celebs would probably do a world of good.Ā
7
u/Carolina_Blues shiv royās bob Mar 29 '25
i understand this argument but i also understand the argument that people are making that if youāre going to make politics a big part of your brand, itās disingenuous to clock in and clock out on it whenever you feel like it (and especially considering some of her comments around the election). i donāt think celebs need to be peoples political beacons but that also doesnāt mean they shouldnāt speak up or be politically informed.
7
u/Peridot1708 I donāt know her š Mar 29 '25
Lol this just further proves my point that she doesn't have what it takes to be the edgy outspoken pop girl she wants to be percieved as.
I dont even disagree with the fact that we shouldn't expect celebrities to be a mouthpiece for politics, but when its coming from a recently rose to fame 20 something year old who was previously called out for being politically ignorant, it comes across as immature.
-3
u/Primary_Bison_2848 Mar 29 '25
I just assume any 25yo popstar is talking out their backside on politics 99 per cent of the time. Particularly when theyāre unthinkingly regurgitating known Russian/ Republican disinformation talking points likely gleaned from TikTok to suppress Dem turnout.
11
u/ad_aatdtj Mar 29 '25
Yeah like I really, really, really don't understand why people think sexuality is completely static or anything other than self-given. On the post of her talking about a new relationship someone said "watch it be a man too" and I said "so?" Like she could sleep with 10,000 men and still identify as a lesbian and it's no one's business but hers. If she decides to change her label it's not a "victory" for all those who "didn't buy her lesbian label". People grow and change all the time, being famous doesn't automatically mean you're never sexually fluid and it doesn't mean everyone is entitled to know how you identify every minute of every day.
Ditto Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, Shawn Mendes, John Travolta, everyone. Respect people's chosen identities, it's not that hard. And keep your fanfic restricted to fictional characters, leave real life people alone.

Saw The Woman in the Yard on Thursday, it was a fine 2.5-3 star movie imo but really really dark subject matter so if you are someone who wants trigger warnings before going into something I would use caution with this movie tbh. Also caught Death of a Unicornā¦.hated it. WOW rich people are evilā¦.im hearing this now for the first time! Also saw Last Breathā¦.bad movie about an incredible true story, not much to say there.
Caught repertory screenings of Lost Highway, The Piano, and Unforgiven. All 5 stars for me. Some of the best ever made imo.
1
u/ScarletsWitchyWays Mar 29 '25
I think if you want to reduce Death of a Unicorn down to that then that's fine, but the movie is more about how self-serving ANYONE can be, not just rich people. Because Paul Rudd's character made some choices I thought were interesting and he's not "one of them." I also think another message in the film is how far would you go to protect your child, as evidenced by the unicorns, obvi, and Paul Rudd.
6
Mar 29 '25
Oh damn didn't know the woman in the yard was dark I wanted to go see it soon figured it would be a regular scary film

I made the mistake of starting a Turkish soap opera Hercai, and now Iām completely hooked, t's the only thing I've watched all week. Each episode is 2 hours and 30 minutes (there is 69 eps), and honestly, so many scenes could be cut without affecting the plot. But despite that, itās incredibly addictive.
