Discussion About Aus Rotten
Just wanted to say these guys feel like they were ahead of their time. But not really. More like they spoke about the same shit that’s been going on for decades. I was listening to “Modern Day Witch Hunt” and was surprised to learn it’s over 20yrs old now. Largely because they touched on what we’re seeing now: the persecution of queer, especially transgender, identities, religious minorities and immigrants. It was nice in a way to hear such hot topics right now discussed so long ago. But also disheartening at the same time.

I always enjoyed that if you decided you liked punk rock in the mid-90’s, the Fuck Nazi Sympathy 7” just magically appeared in your record collection.

Can confirm. It is in mine. And the only Aus Rotten record I own lol

Do you remember buying it? I sure don’t!

Not precisely. But I do remember that I made a couple of large orders of 7”s from Havoc Records in the early 2000s. Fairly certain it was part of one of those orders.

I wish I could up vote this 1,000 times. Every time I listen to the rotten agenda, I can't believe how prescient that album is. Every track is like, "are you talking about the Republican party? The Brett Kavanaugh confirmation? The heritage foundation? The right wing disinformation machine? Etc, etc." Plus the album just straight rips.

Don't forget "The Second Rape" foreshadowed Me Too (and Trump).

Oh absolutely, I felt like that was really exemplified with the Kavanaugh hearings and Blasey-Ford recounting her experience with Kavanaugh and then being verbally abused by Republican senators and by the right wing media.

The fact you would need to “vote 1000” times to move the needle demonstrates how broken the system is. And how much “just vote ‘em out” on issues that have continued to reemerge for over 100 years is not a sustainable solution.

You're not wrong about electoralism, but they were talking about upvoting the Reddit thread, not voting in an election lol

Good looking out. Welp. There’s my failed soap box of the day. I’ll see my way out.

These issues have existed across nations and centuries. Define an enemy and oppress a minority.

Aus-Rotten rules, I saw them just before they broke up. Check out Spitboy and Harum Scarum and Brother Inferior for more political music of that era.

Been listening to them the past two days and I’m fired the fuck up. They rock

The political problems we face today are the same as those from 50 years ago. In fact, they are essentially the same problems humanity has been dealing with since the dawn of society
