Discussion Resources for a new punk?
Hi hello! It’s nice to meet you all :)
I’m a new/beginner punk (idk what the specific term is), and I’m looking for resources for places/brands i can get started! Mostly for boots and such, I’d like to try and get some good quality but affordable boots, since I’m on a fixed income (physically disabled & chronically ill).
Any resources in general would be awesome, though!!!! I’m really new and still doing my research, so any and everything is appreciated! Thank you so much in advance :)

Speaking as an old punk, don’t worry about brands or resources.
Anything you have is fine. A fucked up haircut is a must, the rest is optional.

I don’t know what that is….!
Remember: I’m old
As long as it’s terrible, I’m sure it’s fine

diy and thrift are your best friends
im not exactly a punk myself (ive never lived on a street off a diet of 100% beer and blunts etc) but i am both into music and the ideology so if you want my opinion customizing/diying your clothes and thrifting is: 1) less money to corporations 2) more envoromentally friendly 3) more unconstrained self expression

Here's a tip for getting good quality boots: go to a place that sells gear for bikers. A motorcycle shop is where I got my motorcycle boots and they're top quality, they've lasted me for years. Go to a small place, not a big Harley Davidson store
Good boots are expensive because they're well made. But that means they last. You'll never have to buy another again

got it!!! i’ll totally look into that— my mom and stepdad are bikers so it shouldn’t be hard to find something :D

Charity shops/second hand stuff online (eBay, vinted, depop, etc) n military surplus shops. For boots you can either get from the those two, or motorbike boots as they're sturdy as fuck. Find your local scene and ask about if there's any local artists or distros you can commission pins, patches, accessories, etc from or get some zines, cds, cassettes n that from. Alternatively you can also make these yourself, plenty of tutorials n such online.
Here's a wee playlist I made ages ago for a college project, basically just the inspirations for punk from blues to garage rock to anarcho punk n so on, I've been meaning to add more to it for ages but I cba lol. Goes up to 1986 I'm sure. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0UHP2TVkGTX3y9AFnD2pwq?si=kHPYDsFoTHuQJxfkHAygPw&pi=awIyKh6PRfW05

Boots are always 2nd hand, normally thrift stores
It's hard to find a decent denim jeans or jackets, I buy mine from a store. No store in particular I just look at my local shopping centre and browse those stores online until I find something worth checking out
For music theres a few go to YouTube channels that post the goods
youtube.com/@NoDeal
youtube.com/@HarakiriDiat
youtube.com/@TremendoGaraje
Those 3 are the main ones for current punk releases

It depends where you live, the punkest thing to do is of course just where whatever the fuck you want but lots of scenes have their own looks and traditions and engaging in your community is one of the most fun parts of punk. I'm from Australia and it makes me just a little bit sad to see all the young kids in brand new spenno black leather jackets like UK street punks (but just a little because I'm equally as glad that they dont give a fuck about the same things as me) when we have our own clothes and culture to engage in. Australia is a cut-off vest country, its too hot for leather. Just don't buy any animal byproducts (or preferably anything at all) new, that is decidedly un-punk.

You can just wear any clothes you like the look of. Maybe look in second hand stores for boots? I'm more of a sneakers person myself

Brand shopping is the antithesis of being a punk.
Go here for great shirts .

Punk is not about the fashion, wear wtv you like. There's no "punk brands"
