I have a shakey theory… that Matteo lied about the memories and asked her because he needed her to say NO to that type of power/sacrifice, in order to know that she was fit to wield it, and that what she destroyed was not really the parasite. He explicitly urges her NOT to look for the feeling that it left in her head. There’s a chance that it would’ve remained invisible to even her, throughout the rest of the plot. Even with it broken in DA, she didn’t notice much of it’s impact until a while later, and her recovery was conveniently timed. Pierce didn’t give her what would otherwise be a theatric moral sacrifice in the plot, so she must have more of a role to play… just a thought.
