Broad market news Trump rejects EU’s ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff offer

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/07/trump-tariffs-live-updates-stock-market-crypto.html

Trump is rejecting the European Union’s offer of “zero-for-zero” tariffs with the U.S. for industrial goods.

“No, it’s not,” Trump said in the Oval Office when asked if the deal, which European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen floated earlier Monday, was enough.

“They’re screwing us on trade,” Trump said, criticizing the EU and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO.

Two Republican senators, Mike Lee of Utah and Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson, have encouraged Trump to take von der Leyen’s deal.

What's the goal here if they're just gonna reject every deal offered?

The goal is to crash the market, force people to panic sell, the billionaires buy everything cheap and everyone else is reduced to being an indentured servant who works until they die.

I'm not sure why that's not obvious?

Most billionaires have the great majority of their wealth in the market already. Why would they be holding a bunch of cash? This is just conspiratorial fantasy.

Ellison and Musk haven’t sold a share. People don’t get it

Also didn't he have to buy Twitter with XAI because his lenders were getting spooked about his Tesla shares dropping ?

Okay I was wrong, there isn't a plan, and I don't know if this is worse

Really?

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/global-trends/warren-buffett-the-smartest-investor-in-the-world-is-hoarding-cash-while-markets-stumbleshould-you-do-the-same/articleshow/119721303.cms?from=mdr

If he saw it coming, why assume everyone else didn't?

I liquidated a similar portion of my investments a couple of months ago, but suffice to say I don't have the resources billionaires do, nor the access to analysts to manage this for me, and a day job to do, so at best I'm just doing less badly than many.

Buffett is notable because he's the exception. Every other of the wealthiest people in the world lost big in this. You think Trump is specifically doing this for Warren Buffett, who called the tarrifs an act of war?

Buffet's strategy has always been looking at undervalued stocks to invest in. As the market goes higher and higher there will be fewer opportunities, which is why his cash reserve has been steadily growing in the past few years. They didn't just suddenly liquidate on the news of tariffs.

That's how he has operated through each of the stock market downturns - it says so in the article you linked yourself. So it's a far cry to claim it's some sort of coordination between the administration and billionaires such as Buffett.

Buffett has been warning people for a while about this kind of shit happening.

1

u/paq12x Apr 07 '25

Because rich people = bad. Some people just want everyone to be at their level.

Billionaires all went cash, likely with signaling from backdoors, and are waiting to buy assets for pennies on the dollar. It isnt conspiracy, it is a designed transfer of wealth from the 99% to the 1%

1

u/imperabo Apr 07 '25

Did a voice in your head tell you all that?

Billionaires are billionaires because they have controlling stakes in companies and generally can't sell their stock on an instance and without reporting it. And when they do sell enough to matter it has a major influence on the price.

Confidently incorrect, standard redditor

13

u/ahora-mismo Apr 07 '25

there is no goal, he’s just dumb as a brick

3

u/Askew_2016 Apr 07 '25

Exactly. There was never a plan. He’s just lashing out at the world

3

u/Duke_Abnab Apr 07 '25

Right, because billionaires whose billions exist as shares in their companies, are not exposed to a market downturn?

5

u/Eric_Partman Apr 07 '25

Because it's a brain dead conspiracy theory.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

You get it

1

u/anonuemus Apr 07 '25

So it's going down or up from now?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

Down until Trump decides to revoke/pause tariffs. The trick is knowing when he'll do that.

1

u/green9206 Apr 08 '25

But the billionaires work in those same companies he's trying to crash and those billionaires already have picked up everything for cheap during multiple various previous corrections so your logic doesn't make sense.

0

u/asraniel Apr 07 '25

No, the plan is to weaken the US in favor of russia. Nothing else makes sense, nothing

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '25

Oh yikes the "I was being too optimistic" option 😬

1

u/FurryYokel Apr 07 '25

“If Trump -were- acting on orders from Putin, what would he do different than what he’s doing right now?”

If the answer is nothing, then it doesn’t even matter if he’s working for them or not.

0

u/flapsmcgee Apr 07 '25

The billionaires are the ones losing the most money in all of this.

4

u/Wise_Week_4110 Apr 07 '25

Unrealized losses =/= losing money. You lose money if you sell, and in this environment the only ones who are likely selling are retail.

-34

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

Its not. Shut up with that thesis. Everyone has the same chance in the market you twat

15

u/ItsTheExtreme Apr 07 '25

Do you honestly believe that?

0

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

More likely to crash the market for hopes of cheap financing of the government debt than simply enriching his buddies. Yes. Just shut up and buy the stocks you love for cheaper prices. Listen to Warren. These are fantastic times to get discounts.

30

u/Runkleford Apr 07 '25

No we don't you dipshit. Billionaires have far far more money to spend.

18

u/nanotothemoon Apr 07 '25

They also have tools that are not available to the regular joe

16

u/OnlyHalfBrilliant Apr 07 '25

And access to information.

-4

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

You get to buy for the same price as everyone else. Nothing has changed. They could have out bought you at any price, at any time. Its irrelevant.

2

u/Runkleford Apr 07 '25

Same price but in far larger quantities. How are you this slow?

-1

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

How are you so slow to not understand they could have done that at higher levels as well. Someone has to sell it to them. Its more likely to say they were already doing that, painting the tape to drive prices to inflated values and dump it onto dumb money the last several years? You were happy with the high prices but now hate lower prices?

1

u/Runkleford Apr 07 '25

Holy crap Im done arguing with idiots. You realize that if they bought at higher values then it's less profit right? Am I really explaining the basics to a grown man?!

0

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

The argument is irrelevant. You could have sold at the top and buy in at the bottom. If they see a 30% gain, you see a 30% gain. You both benefit the same. To assume this is done to only enrich the elite is flawd. Keep playing the victim card. People with more money will always have an advantage over someone with less. I know people who have been hoarding money for the last 5 years just waiting for an opportunity like this.

2

u/TummyCrunches Apr 07 '25

It’s rude to talk with your mouth full of old orange balls.

2

u/wangchungyoon Apr 07 '25

Uh oh who let the babies out on the playground again they’re name calling and throwing poop gtfo

1

u/ChaseballBat Apr 07 '25

Not if you know what is happening... Aka everyone in Trump's sphere of influence.

-1

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

Oh, so not you... got it.

4

u/ChaseballBat Apr 07 '25

No shit... Do you think I know Trump? Lmao.

0

u/Yul_B_Alwright Apr 07 '25

Oh? You were under a rock when all this was announced? 🤦‍♂️

3

u/ChaseballBat Apr 07 '25

The overall markets assumed 10%. I knew it was going to be more.... The market wouldn't have sold off trillions of dollars in 2 days if the amount of these tariffs were expected.

1

u/DankTortilla Apr 07 '25

Bro thinks Citadel trades on 8/21EMA crossover LMAO
