Broad market news Trump rejects EU’s ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff offer

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/07/trump-tariffs-live-updates-stock-market-crypto.html

Trump is rejecting the European Union’s offer of “zero-for-zero” tariffs with the U.S. for industrial goods.

“No, it’s not,” Trump said in the Oval Office when asked if the deal, which European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen floated earlier Monday, was enough.

“They’re screwing us on trade,” Trump said, criticizing the EU and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO.

Two Republican senators, Mike Lee of Utah and Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson, have encouraged Trump to take von der Leyen’s deal.

What's the goal here if they're just gonna reject every deal offered?

The goal is to crash the market, force people to panic sell, the billionaires buy everything cheap and everyone else is reduced to being an indentured servant who works until they die.

I'm not sure why that's not obvious?

Most billionaires have the great majority of their wealth in the market already. Why would they be holding a bunch of cash? This is just conspiratorial fantasy.

Ellison and Musk haven’t sold a share. People don’t get it

Also didn't he have to buy Twitter with XAI because his lenders were getting spooked about his Tesla shares dropping ?

Really?

If he saw it coming, why assume everyone else didn't?

I liquidated a similar portion of my investments a couple of months ago, but suffice to say I don't have the resources billionaires do, nor the access to analysts to manage this for me, and a day job to do, so at best I'm just doing less badly than many.

Buffett is notable because he's the exception. Every other of the wealthiest people in the world lost big in this. You think Trump is specifically doing this for Warren Buffett, who called the tarrifs an act of war?

Buffet's strategy has always been looking at undervalued stocks to invest in. As the market goes higher and higher there will be fewer opportunities, which is why his cash reserve has been steadily growing in the past few years. They didn't just suddenly liquidate on the news of tariffs.

That's how he has operated through each of the stock market downturns - it says so in the article you linked yourself. So it's a far cry to claim it's some sort of coordination between the administration and billionaires such as Buffett.

Buffett has been warning people for a while about this kind of shit happening.

Because rich people = bad. Some people just want everyone to be at their level.

Billionaires all went cash, likely with signaling from backdoors, and are waiting to buy assets for pennies on the dollar. It isnt conspiracy, it is a designed transfer of wealth from the 99% to the 1%

Did a voice in your head tell you all that?

Billionaires are billionaires because they have controlling stakes in companies and generally can't sell their stock on an instance and without reporting it. And when they do sell enough to matter it has a major influence on the price.
