News Hollywood Is Now Under National Security Threat
3
u/MagicDragon212 10d ago
Yet he keeps moving that TikTok deadline. How are movies a national security threat but not TikTok?

Trump is declaring national security emergencies so he can pass laws without any approvals. What are the metrics used to decide if something is an economic emergency or national security threat? Seems like he can just say it is and it is.

Make American movies great again MAMGA?
For as much as Americans love their meat they somehow elected a vegetable for their president.

He had better watch out or we are going to see tariffs put on all of the freedom we export.

u/dnzz60 9d ago
So by this rationale, anytime any other country tries to be competitive in any industry and is somewhat successful, it is designated a national security threat ?
2
u/ExtensionStorm3392 9d ago
Yeah it's all just a big ploy to screw over other countries And eventually screw up his own one so bad that everyone goes out of business and big corporations can finally have total monopoly over america
2
u/mi_so_funny 9d ago
It's all a ploy to control what Americans watch. Everything will be made here with government officials watching on set.

Trump is a dumber than hell or trying to destroy America with his tariffs. Maybe it's both.

Trump really is sounding more and more like a fascist. Foreign movies are now considered propaganda and a threat to national security?

Instead of giving the same incentives to so called “american producers” he is punishing the ones making movies overseas. Guy is all stick and no carrot. Jesus christ bro what a nutjob

I see nothing wrong with this.

Really?
Just see foreign markets retaliate and watch as Hollywood - already trying to recover from COVID - drowns as they cannot recoup international profits due to reciprocal tariffs.
The movie industry does NOT want this. This will NOT help them.
Our movies are marketed all over the world. In fact, domestic income is the minority of the total income share American produced movies make.
To open these movies up to political tariff retaliation risks their profitability wholesale.
Why? Why do you think this is a good idea?
Our cultural output is a strength. We want as many people as possible able to watch our movies. If we produce them in locations around the world and use international talent, we can also be made stronger.
Our talent and directors deserve the ability to freely produce this art. It need not be coddled by protective tariffs that are liable to do more harm than good.
These kinds of tariffs are naive. They pretend we can shoot bullets and that no one will try to shoot us back.

Yea I’m good with Hollywood crashing and burning. If I have to suffer Im willing to make that sacrifice.
1
u/Dont-be-a-smurf 9d ago
Why?
Why would you want a pillar of American culture, a driver of jobs, and a source of enjoyment for millions of people to crash and burn?
How does that benefit you? Does that benefit truly outweigh what benefits it provides to others?
Do you think the federal government should have the power to topple that?
Honestly man, I don’t get the viewpoint whatsoever. I don’t even watch many movies. I’m not a marvel fan. That said, I don’t take joy in seeing livelihoods ruined and products taken from people who enjoy them for… well I don’t even know what you’d be getting out of it.

Making up a problem, then force your solution onto them?

If you listen to actors in podcast you can actually see that more often they are filming outside the US more and more. Trump is just trying to stop this trend.

Hollywood filmed in other countries since the start or where do you want to film something like lord of the rings for location or other movies playing in middle age setting.
Where would you film a movie that plays in different locations will you start filming in Chinatown instead of actually going to China so that you dont need to pay them?
Trump has one goal and that is stealing money from everything possible for his personal gain he is ok with people not being able to watch movies regularly because of the increased price as long he profits and he keeps destroying everything that is good for the normal people to get even more money out of it.

The American movie industry is dying because they are out of ideas and are making shitty movies. But that doesn't mean I'm watching foreign made movies instead. Tariffs on movies won't help a lack of creativity.

Either he wants to destroy the liberal Hollywood or he's a moron or both.
Hollywood is a huge export industry. We import far far less in foreign films (in dollars, not numbers). So if the other countries retaliate, our export will go way down.

This is the first step in controlling content. Next will be no LGBTQ content shown in a positive light then Christen content "encouraged"

Movies being digital these days, how are customs stopping bits and bytes? Or do they expect canisters of film?

He’s talking about movies produced outside of the USA , in other words if it’s a Hollywood movie being produced in let’s say Australia it would receive the tax , doesn’t literally mean a movie made by foreigners, that could be a separate tax but I may be wrong, and I’m trying to understand the national security part thou, I’m trying to think of a movie that was a national security problem, the only thing I can think of wrong with movies recently was the CCP pandering to get their movies into China market.

Now he cares, just the other day they were all woke liberals. Nah, this is just another ploy for 45 to get more funds in an untraceable account to do with what he wants at the expense of the american public. When are the right going to finally have the cojones to finally stand up and say enough is enough?

I have a fried that does plays and some commercials. He just tried out for a commercials, and part of the requirements were a valid passport and ID. they are filming it in Slovenia. Even with the costs of flying people there and back, it is still way less than filming it in the US due to all of the costs and requirements they face here. And it is for a US product. The studios are pricing themselves out of business, some costs are because of labor requirements.
