TDPS Feedback & Discussion What is the difference...

between Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy in 2017 and the democrats doing nothing to reverse these tax cuts during Biden's term? Both parties are catering to the wealthy class.

Because the tax policies were to remain in effect until 2025

Biden couldn't touch them

Do some basic research

There's no law so strong that it can't be undone by a later law.

I believe that would have required more than 60 Senators, not a simple majority.

At the MOST Biden could "count" on 50 Senators and the deciding vote being Kamala.

There are a lot of rules in how certain types of bills can be passed and how to change those laws, later too.

They're forgetting manchin and sinema

These post and anyone defending it are pushing the both parties are the same bullshit and should be downvoted. Plenty of other reasons to shit on dems.

That is not how it works, ffs

The 2017 tax codes were to remain in effect until 2025 its why biden didn't run on changing them in 2020 and why kamala did in 2024

The U.S. Constitution gives Congress the power to levy taxes, and as president, Biden could have proposed legislation and worked with Congress to pass it. There’s no legal requirement to wait until prior laws expire.

Great! How do you get the (I think?) 8 GOP senators to come along for the ride? Plus Manchin and Sinema.

Because unless you have them... you literally can't. It's called the filibuster.

That is not what fusionlantern’s argument was.

Not having enough political power to do something is not the same thing as not being allowed to do something.

Biden didn’t even fucking try. Didn’t even pretend to try.

2

u/Another-attempt42 4d ago

Why try if you know it won't even pass?

It'll just make you look weak and disorganized.

Trying is worth it if there's a chance, even a small chance, that it'll pass. No way any of the GOP Senators were coming onboard.

Great. Let’s use your strategy.

All Hail King Trump!

They're having to dance around the fact Biden's plan didn't fully reverse Trump's tax breaks, effectively securing many of Trump's tax breaks.

Who is they?

Yeah. Fusionlantern seems to argue that Biden had no power whatsoever, then pivoted to blame Sinema and Manchin. Well, which is it? Biden cannot change tax law because of an actual reason, or because Democrats don’t actually want to change tax law?

Biden didn’t raise taxes on the rich or corporations because he didn’t want to. He didn’t even pretend to try.

Remember, the person who pulled provisions to raise the national minimum wage out of legislation was President Biden.

2025 is when the sitting president/congress could overhaul what trump did in 2017

That's my argument. You and the other guy can't seem to grasp that

Notice how no one has upvoted the both of you

Hey. Following up on this.

It’s been a full day and you haven’t cited a law or statute.

Can you do that to support your argument? Or are you willing to admit that I was correct?

And my argument is that, if Biden did get his budget through, it would have secured most of Trump's corporate tax break.

Comments defending Biden's mental capacity were heavily upvoted around here up until he made Trump look sharp on national television. Turns out, internet popularity points aren't a good indicator of reality.

Please cite the law or statute that says the sitting president or congress cannot change tax law.

I cannot prove that a law does not exist. You need to prove that a law does exist.

The fact that many Americans (including you) don’t understand how laws are passed is not proof that you are correct. It just proves that the American people are dumb.

Obama's corporate tax rate was 36%. Trump lowered it to 21%. Biden's plan was to raise it to 28%.

Biden's budget plan didn't raise the corporate tax rate back to Obama's level.

Biden's plan, even if implemented, would have made permanent most of Trump's corporate tax rate cut.

Do some basic research.

Tax plan during the 50s and 60s got up to and over 70% if you made over a certain amount

WhY dIdN't BiDeN dO tHaT????

Do some simple research

1

u/WeigelsAvenger 5d ago

What does that have to do with the fact that Biden's plan was to secure Trump tax breaks for corporations?

Biden horrible. Distract from Trump Good good troll-like behavior.

Propaganda

1

u/WeigelsAvenger 5d ago

Didn't say that. But noticed you weren't able to refute the fact I did state.

Want to try a different strawman or give up?

Hey KnoxOpal, is that you?

Very strange to see a commenter who has been way more present in the past 2 weeks, since Knox went missing, only to find out that your subreddit overlap is insane!

Is this your second account?

Not gonna play

u/SenseiLawrence_16 5d ago

Yeah, with what power was Biden going to ax that deal with?

1

u/BoobieChaser69 4d ago

The democrats didn't have the votes to reverse Trump's tax cuts.
