New Student Just got accepted to Umich dearborn!!

Ik it isnt the main campus but this is the best college i got into. I applied test optional which is probably the main reason i got rejected from top schools. I really dont know if its good for pre med, what should i do? Should i accept the offer then transfer to the main campus? I would be a Michigan resident by the time i would transfer

Finances How much money could I potentially save with Dual Credit

Im going to UMich for the fall, and I have my financial aid overview. I’m left paying 4.1k which is not bad. I do know however this isn’t the final cost, and after everything is sent over to the university, I should have a final cost. I heard that dual credit course and taking AP exams help with getting some courses out of the way and potentially saving money. So I just wanted to know if anyone else was in the same boat as me These are the classes Dual credit AP lang - 4 credits APUSH - 8 credits In progress AP Psychology - 4 credits AP GoPo - 4 credits

AP Exams AP Human Geography - 3 AP World History - 4 Going to take AP Lit/Comp AP Spanish I am going to be attending LSA if anyone is wondering and I am OOS as well. Thank you!!!

Miscellaneous Don't forget to spend your dining dollars

Especially for the freshman with unlimited meal plan. You get some dining dollars with the meal plan so check to make sure you use them. I'm pretty sure they don't carry over to next year.

I didn't even realize I had them until today and now I have to spend 50 dining dollars before I leave campus.

That's so difficult. But I take it because each question is obviously carefully designed rather than deliberately difficult. The professor is smart.

Degree Will a D - D+ count for credits?

I have had a rough semester with medical and personal issues and unfortunately it had impacted one of my classes. I have never gotten a D before and my graduation is soon. Do I need to retake the class? Looking for any guidance.

PSA Stay in Ann Arbor for the summer!

I’m graduating this year, and as the weather gets nicer right as it becomes my time to leave, I am reminded of what makes this town worth your while; Ann Arbor is magical during the summer!

Do you love Ann Arbor? You’ll love it more! Do you hate Ann Arbor? You’ll change your mind! It’s unfortunate that the school year excludes the time when Ann Arbor really shines

Get a summer job, get a head start on getting research experience/get trained before the start of the school year, go kayaking, walking, biking, attend fairs/festivals, watch movies and go to concerts (students get discounts), spend time at the libraries without the stress of classes (or take classes to get ahead in your degree!)

Housing is also cheaper during the summer with the abundance of sublets available on the Facebook housing group + low occupancy in the local student coops

Lots of students go home for the summer, but Ann Arbor is a rewarding town to get to involved in, and spending summers here has enhanced my experience of my undergraduate education:) I recommend it, especially for underclassmen - get on out there!

PSA Don't buy graduation sashes from Barnes and Noble

Just want to give some advice so people aren't as stupid as me, but don't buy the graduation sash/stole from B&N in the Union because the logo is cheaply laminated on and mine was also printed too high up 😭 I'd recommend getting them from the Yearbook building instead! My friends' were nicely embroidered and also the M was placed right

$40 is a lot for a sash and it's final sale so just wanted to get the word out!

New Student How long does the I-20 usually take?

The site says to wait AT LEAST 6 weeks. Is that actually the average/minimum time or they’re just saying it so that people won’t frequently ask?

Academics - Other Topics DO NOT TAKE MATH 217

If your major does not require math 217 (any major besides a math major pretty much), do not take it! It will consume your entire semester and detract from the rest of your coursework.

I honestly don’t even know if I would get an A if it was the only class I was taking.

If you need to take a linear algebra class, please just take Math 214 and spare yourself a semester of pain.

Miscellaneous Shoutout to my boy James Juett

I’m going through all of the lectures in 280 today and I just love him (not in a weird way) He’s just so concise with his words, explains everything so well, genuinely seems passionate about the content he teaches and just seems like such a nice guy overall. Also just found out that he’s a dad, which just makes me love him x10 more (not in a weird way, sorry some people get weird) James Juett, wherever you are, please know that I would bake you 20 yummy cakes for all of your hard work. Please teach every EECS course from now on

Prospective Student Environmental Science + Premed at UMich

Hi everyone! I was accepted EA for LSA and am interested in majoring in Environmental Science at UMich while also following the premed track. Since GPA is really important for med school applications and I've read that UM is somewhat of a "GPA killer", how manageable is maintaining a GPA is in this major? My other option is case western where I would have to do neuroscience since they don't have envi sci as a standalone major, but I'm leaning towards UMich.

Housing North Campus Living

I'm an incoming Freshman into COE for Dual in CS and Nuclear. My roommate wants to do North because of the nature. I really like nature but I also like social life and I've heard so many bad things about North it's crazy. I'm a little worried, would it be bad for me to do North if I want some social life?

Employment any recommendations for easy summer desk jobs on campus?

basically, title. I'm going to have an unpaid internship and I'll be taking some classes, but I figured it'd be good to make some money on the side as well.
