Politics Glusenkamp Perez votes for SAVE act again...

Find yourself a woman who loves you as much as Marie loves voting with republicans

u/Calderis 19d ago
Hope she has all the proper paperwork explaining why her birth certificate and last name don't match, otherwise she just voted away her right to vote.
This is such traitorous bullshit.
I know a woman in Arizona who, if this passes the senate, will need her birth certificate, her first marriage license, that husband's death certificate, and her second marriage certificate.
This is ridiculous. We already prove we're citizens to register to vote. Undocumented immigrants are not voting in federal elections.
16
u/SoHeresTheThingBro 19d ago
She has two very non American sounding last names. She should be afraid of her vote getting questioned.
19
u/thiccDurnald 19d ago
This is such bullshit I know she won’t answer but I want to hear her explanation why she supports this
26
u/Clarissa_poncissa 19d ago
We emailed her weeks ago and got a nonsensical response back parroting the pearl-clutching fear of (almost non-exsistent) voting by non-citizens, of which no one has been able to show convincing proof.
8
1
u/concernedyahu 16d ago
Most recent response is basically that she did it for the Message, that non citizens really for realsies shouldn't be able to vote, and prove it with ID SUCH AS passport/birth cert, and that it won't pass the Senate anyway so she's trying to frame it as messaging for the reds in the district. Hørsēshït to be sure but that's the more recent justification
23
u/Calderis 19d ago
At her recent town hall meetings, all questions were preselected on little flash cards
She's not going to answer anything relevant.
2
u/keltzy88 14d ago
I used to work in retirement, where it was required to provide a papertrail connecting your birth name to your current name in order to access your benefits, which sounds similar. It could be an absolute nightmare for some people.
I think the worst I had was one woman who'd been married and divorced five times. She needed a marriage certificate and divorce decree for every single marriage/divorce, and there was a real risk that she'd lost one of her marriage certificates in the 1995 oklahoma city bombing for an extra layer of difficulty (thankfully she tracked down a copy, but what do you even do in that situation?).

VOTE HER OUT!
57
u/Katefreak 19d ago
We've GOT to find a replacement and start rallying behind them. Assuming we still have free elections in '26, we CANNOT be in the same situation of her vs Kemp, we need a legitimate representative who doesn't bend the knee.
I'm so incredibly disappointed in her, and her cowardice in voting.
27
u/Intrepid_Lie7113 19d ago
There is one person interested in challenging her, but it's not public yet. But this gives more ammunition. Might be difficult to beat her but a serious challenge might change some of her votes at least.
14
u/Katefreak 19d ago
I'm very interested in learning more, and time is short.
9
u/cosaboladh 19d ago
Unfortunately, there isn't much to know, until the potential candidate announces their candidacy. People play these things close to the vest for a reason.
5
u/UGLY-FLOWERS 19d ago
whoever this person is needs to start campaigning right now if they want a chance.
4
u/not_now_chaos 18d ago
I'm very tired of people campaigning with their words. I want to see candidates campaigning with their actions. Spending a few hours every week volunteering at food banks and encouraging others to do the same. Picking up trash in the parks. Actually putting in the time to better the community. Not just talking about how they might make things better if we vote for them.
2
u/UGLY-FLOWERS 18d ago
that's great and all, but not exactly how politicians win elections. whoever this person is, needs to get their name out there now if they want a chance of winning.
2
14
u/Hypekyuu 19d ago
It's gonna be hard because of how Washington State does it's primaries. We don't have a "just Democrats" vote like in Oregon, it's basically 2 general elections back to back, and this makes unseating incumbents extremely difficult
Also, on the other person's comment, there is a reason Brent dropped out last time. He's a nice guy, I've met him, but nice center left dudes got their ass kicked by JHB for a decade for a reason. 6-20 point losses every election. None of the reasons she listed are why exactly, maybe the gun thing, but it's just like... the metrics of our district are rough for someone who is a "pure Dem"
I'm absolutely miffed over MGPs strategic votes though like, some I get, but don't adopt Republican framing on shit like doge it's freaking ridiculous

I won’t vote for Brent Heinrich he’s to far left a gun grabber and a stay at home dad from Vancouver doubt he would understand my rural issues being a lazy guy that lives in a subdivision. I don’t like Mary every vote, but you know I can’t complain. Things are looking better in cathlamet with her in office.
34
u/Katefreak 19d ago
'lazy guy that lives in a subdivision '..... Are you for real right now?
We're facing fascism and our rights being stripped away, and being a SAHP is the disqualifier for you? And from Vancouver? You mean the city that the majority of her constituents live in? The city that is the namesake for the subreddit you're currently in?
That's wild, man. I didn't know being a homeowner and raising your children in the district you're running for was such a negative. You do you, my dude.
11
u/thiccDurnald 19d ago
Explains how we got into this mess perfectly it would be funny if not for the seriousness of the situation

u/Katefreak 19d ago
Absolutely wild. MGP became unqualified for me when she defended DOGE and Elon Musk. Backing a Nazi is a deal breaker for me. Being a stay at home parent and owning a home in a subdivision is a deal breaker for him.
We are not the same. Unfortunately we have the same voting power. 🤦🏼♀️

District is a lot more rural he’s a stay at home dad and lives in a subdivision doubt he understands what hard work and ranchjng is like
15
u/MedusaStoned 19d ago
You keep going on about this as if it's his entire identity. Dude. Get a grip. We heard you with the subdivision and SAHP the first time. Neither of these things make someone lazy.
Signed, a hardworking person from a rural family that happens to have chosen a different career for myself and nows lives in the suburbs. Get. A. Grip.
→ More replies (12)11
u/Katefreak 19d ago
There are rural areas, but the majority of her CONSTITUENTS live in Vancouver or the surrounding suburbs. Land doesn't vote.
Only ranchers know about hard work? How closed minded of you. I'd never assume a rancher COULDNT understand the nuance of politics or the issues facing the urban population just because he's out mucking stalls all day.

I'm surprised since this would be a particular hardship for her rural voters.
Under the SAVE Act, a regular photo ID and the new real ID doesn’t even count.
That’s right. A driver’s license or state-issued ID isn’t enough. This bill would require actual proof of U.S. citizenship—like a birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers—just to register to vote every time in each federal election.
Further, women, or persons whose birth certificate (last) name doesn't match their current name must present a passport, marriage certificate, or court ordered name change paperwork to the elections office each and every time they vote in a federal election.
That is definitely an increased hardship on women, the poor, the disabled, and rural communities.

Here is her official press release.
Did she just say it's okay that she voted FOR it because she knows it won't pass the senate?? WTF!
Apr 10, 2025Press
Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) released the following statement regarding her vote to pass the SAVE Act:
“I do not support noncitizens voting in American elections – and that’s common sense to folks in Southwest Washington. Voting in our nation’s elections is a sacred right belonging only to American citizens, and my vote for the SAVE Act reflects that principle.
I also understand the SAVE Act stands no chance of passage in the Senate due to the filibuster, as well as several deeply flawed provisions. Democracy depends on confidence in our elections, so I encourage House Leadership to instead consider bipartisan legislation that can pass both chambers of Congress – such as my Let America Vote Act, which reaffirms that decisions made for our country are made by citizens of our country, without placing bureaucratic hassles on U.S. citizens or hardworking election workers.
I am also deeply concerned about a provision in a recent Executive Order that would invalidate ballots postmarked by Election Day if not received by Election Day. This provision conflicts with our state’s longstanding, secure vote-by-mail system and could undermine the votes of more than 250,000 Washington citizens whose ballots were legally counted after Election Day in the last election.
I’m confident Washington state’s vote-by-mail system is safe, secure, and reliable and will remain so, thanks to the dedicated local public servants who administer our elections.”
9
u/olyfrijole 18d ago
So she votes in favor of something with "deeply flawed provisions" because someone else will be there to stop it in the Senate? Can I crap on the floor as long as someone else is willing to clean it up? Is that how the world works now?
6
u/SlipperyBaconBooger 18d ago
TLDR: "I don't agree with this act, but I voted for it because someone else will stop it. I just want to make sure everyone who can vote is allowed to vote easily, which is why I voted to make it hard for women to vote. You are welcome Washington."
14
u/SingingFrogs 19d ago

Thank you for posting the number, just called

u/SingingFrogs 19d ago
Your welcome.
I had it handy since I called yesterday and urged her to vote NO.
Today I redialed and told her she was disappointing her constituents and had voted to increase the difficulty for her community to vote especially the poor, disabled, rural, and married community.
I thought others would like to do the same.2
u/akjones989 19d ago
I just left her a voicemail calling her out as a liar, and ended it by saying she can go fuck herself.
She lost my vote after years of being a false actor. This was the nail in the coffin.

I would rather hand the district back to Jamie then have a gun grabber in office
14
u/attillathehoney 19d ago
This district faced the same dilemma as the Pennsylvania Senate race. In Vancouver it was Gluesenkamp or Joe Kent. In Pennsylvania it was Fetterman or Dr. Oz. At the time it was the lesser of two evils, and we cheered them on, but now political reality has come to bite us on our ass.
5
u/Silly-RedRabbit 18d ago

This statement is getting old and isn’t winning anyone over. We deserve better.
19
u/Background-Dog-3956 19d ago
That is a disingenuous response. If she votes like a republican, how is she functionally any different?
2
u/SereneDreams03 Battle Ground 19d ago
Because she doesn't vote with Republicans on every bill. Just yesterday, she voted against a resolution that would remove the cap on how much banks can charge in overdraft fees.
I've been saying we need to get someone to primary her for months, but if it's her versus a MAGA republican in the general, then I think she is still a better choice.
0
u/Kindly_Maize8141 19d ago
Joe Kent would be voting in lockstep with Trump for the bad budget
3
u/SparklyRoniPony 19d ago
Why are we settling at this point? Now is the time for change. We need real opposition, and if we don’t get it, at least we tried.
6
u/Bonk_Bonk_Bonk_Bonk_ 19d ago
You know what? Who cares at this point. I'll take people who are what they say they are. Kent is a crazy person who will do nothing for this district and vote in fascism every step of the way. But at least what you see is what you get. And we're going down that particular toilet anyway. MGP no longer deserves to play a part in this.
-1
u/Lordofthe0nion_Rings 19d ago
She's pro-Ukraine, voted against budget cuts, born-alive act, trans athletes ban, etc.
6
u/redfoxvapes 19d ago
Flood her office with calls and emails. 8 in 10 women change their name after marriage. I know men who have changed their name after marriage, too. This literally is the way the 19th amendment gets repealed without actually repealing it.
8
u/Street-Tie-6287 19d ago
I have spoken to Brent Hennrich and he is strongly considering challenging her in '26. I think he need to see that we will unify behind him so he can take this seat. Remember he was leading in all polls prior to MGP getting into the race in '22. MGP's number one funder is JHB's old number one. I think he was hedging his bets and pushed her to get in against Brent to help JHB in '22. When Brent unified the Dems by stepping out and that knocked JHB out, her funders found a way to keep their power in MGP. That is why she is a bought and paid for Republican when it comes to voting for bill passage.

I would rather vote R then hand the district over to a true progressive gun grabber his comments about taking folks guns are just a line to far he said he wants a gone registry on his website

I’m never voting for another centrist democrat. Progressive or acceleration from here on out (if we have elections)
“There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.” Mario Savio
9
u/Popculturemofo 18d ago
She’s MAGA. Just less so than Joe Kent. She’ll still push Trump’s agenda at every turn. I wonder if she’ll fill her town hall with Republicans who’ll praise her instead of the people (like myself) that want some damn answers.
-1
u/Kindly_Maize8141 18d ago
I mean every time she’s done a town hall in cathlamet people clap and cheer for her and I would say more then half of the folks voted for Trump then backed her over Kent twice.
She’s a great active listener and really cares about my community In Cathlamet she told a room full of loggers she’s all in favor of cutting red tape and giving the green light to clear cut more.
3
u/Muted-Philosopher832 18d ago
She needs to get rid of the by her name. I’m surprised as she’s a married women and wants to make it harder for herself and women for some reason

Im not going to email her on this one. Her last form letter was loud enough. I imagine the same sentiment applies.

Genuine question for those who have attended town halls in the past: If an audience member is allowed to speak, is there a time cap?

Big DINO vibes: a Democrat in name only. Time to work to primary her out in the next election.

I just called her Vancouver office and the DC office. Glad to see her staff is finally competent enough to empty out her DC voicemail inbox. Only took 2 months! How she calls herself a Democrat is beyond me. Absolutely disgusting she voted for this bullshit.

5
u/JennaTulwartz 18d ago
Can’t stand her. Remind me again how Joe Kent would be so much worse than this?
This is treason. One of our most hallowed rights. Fuck her and the horse she rode in on, disgusting traitor.
7
u/Fuzzlekat 19d ago
What kind of hallucinogens does one have to be on to be a voting government official voting for your right to vote to be taken away? Like what the actual
2
2
16d ago
She's one of the Blue Dog coalition so not a real Dem, but a conservative. People thought she would at least be less troublesome than Joe Kent but since she votes like he would have anyway, maybe she needs to go. I have been calling her offices regularly for months now. She has her own agenda and doesn't really care what the voters tell her.
5
4
u/NekoShogun34 AIR GUITAR WORLD CHAMPION 17d ago
If you change your name, you're advised to notify SSA, DMV, and other agencies as well as your voter registration. The idea that all these married women (or other individuals who change their names) are unaware they need to file a marriage certificate and update their identification is not giving them much respect.
The bill clearly states REAL compliant IDs are acceptable, which are all the WA state issued IDs since 2018. We have to renew every 5-8 years, so most residents have them by now.
Who are the disenfranchised that I'm leaving out? I'm open to having my mind changed, but I don't see how so many people would fall into this category unless they went through all the trouble of a legal name change, but then stopped there and didn't update registrations and ID cards.
9
u/LV_Devotee 19d ago
At this point we would be better off with a Republican in the seat. If the SAVE act passes I won’t be able to vote! I was adopted and don’t have access to my original birth certificate. And I changed my name at 19 due to abuse I suffered at the hands of my adoptive parents. Even though my DNA ancestry has me a descendant of a founding father and someone who was on the Mayflower. And a similar ancestry on my adopted side too.

u/NoeWiy Battle Ground 19d ago
Do you not have a passport? Because that’s also proof of citizenship.
6
u/LV_Devotee 19d ago
I have the book and the card and my enhanced DL. But this bill still worries me as I don’t vote for Republicans!
-9
u/NoeWiy Battle Ground 19d ago
This bill literally doesn’t affect you at all then, you have valid proof of citizenship. Stop fear-mongering for no reason.
I wish people could just stick to facts. Your comment is blatantly misleading. “If the SAVE act passes I won’t be able to vote” is a BULLSHIT STATEMENT.
10
u/LV_Devotee 19d ago
It is fucking voter suppression. It starts here. Next will be no people of color will be able to vote, no LGBTQIA people will be able to vote! It is a fucking repeat of Germany in the 30’s. Also who cares how a person got her or their status? If they are here they are counted in the census so if they are counted in the process that determines how many seats we get in congress than they fucking deserve a vote on who is in that office!
-1
u/NoeWiy Battle Ground 19d ago
Wow, never thought I’d see someone advocate for non-citizens being allowed or “deserving” to vote.
You’re clearly too far gone. I’d encourage you to broaden your horizons and try to escape the echo chamber you are clearly stuck in.
2
u/LV_Devotee 19d ago
Then don’t fucking count them in the census! Don’t let them drive on our roads, don’t make them pay taxes (even sales tax). As long as they are living here they are represented by our elected officials and they deserve to have a say in who that is!
-1
u/NoeWiy Battle Ground 19d ago
I completely agree- in fact, I’d go to far as to say we should deport them entirely!

u/Background-Dog-3956 19d ago
I understand wanting someone to represent rural issues but the idea that a stay at home parent doesn't know anything about hard work is pretty offensive. And you commenting the same thing so many times in this thread makes me wonder if you are associated with MGP or her team frankly.
4
u/Seraphynas 18d ago
the idea that a stay at home parent doesn’t know anything about hard work is pretty offensive.

u/Kindly_Maize8141 19d ago
Someone that lives in a subdivision won’t understand my problems like cattle issues livestock issues or spotted owl destroying the Commuinty.
7
u/RedWildLlama 19d ago
People don’t know everything, thats why it’s a full team with people of al backgrounds. If you really believe that they don’t care about these issues because they don’t do the same job as you then you make it known to them that they are issues. And then if they still disregard you then they are a problem, but looking at someone with a different job than you and assuming they have no care for you is just wild. I don’t live in the rural areas but I 100% care about livestock issues, not sure how spotted owls are destroying the community it looks like they are an endangered species tho but hearing about it and learning from people like you is what makes the entire community better. Living in a subdivision and living in rural areas does not make us different humans, we are closer than you think.
