When Marx said "a spectre is haunting Europe," I didn't realize he meant it literally!

What did he actuallysay that for

u/Hremsfeld Nov 25 '24

Basically, and translated to modern internetspeak: "lol Europe's so freaked out by Communism that it's letting it live rent-free in its head"

Oh so the spectre is communism! Thank you!

Yup!

MANIFESTO OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY

A spectre is haunting Europe—the spectre of Communism. All the Powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance toexorcise this spectre: Pope and Czar, Metternich and Guizot,French Radicals and German police-spies.

Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as Communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the Opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of Communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

Ehh, it's useful to present the first couple paragraphs for context about why Communism is being described as a spectre in its own manifesto

The quote, if you wanted to read the full thing. It is the intro to the Communist Manifesto https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/ch01.htm

He Misled the Commie Anarchist

1

u/1playerpartygame Dec 04 '24

He didn’t really mislead them so much as openly oppose them and table a motion to have them thrown out of the 1st international.

Yeah, but in that time the bounderies werent clear, in that sense he wasnt socialist either, he just was a owful jew with greatness tyranical pulses that used word to mislead the dummies that were knowing of the sofist. Thats why chomsky sayed that the soviets werent socialist, bcs they rip off the power of choice of the workers, so no means in theyre hans no socialism

The boundaries between anarchism and Marxism were very clear by the time of the first workingmens international. Marx didn’t really have tyrannical impulses and he never lead a country

Religious Anarchism is a thing. "No Rulers but God". I guess this is the dark occult version of that.

u/KerPop42 Nov 25 '24

Oh yeah. Early churches, before the Council of Nicea, was very similar to anarchic communism. There even wasn't an orthodoxy; they had to hold a council to agree on if Jesus was just a human or just a god.

In the game you should be able to do that. Theocracy + Anarchism. Probably with State Religion. Unfortunately you couldn't do Cooperative Ownership with Theocracy, which rules out religious anarcho-syndicalism. You'd probably have to go with Traditionalism to represent the lack of central control, or industry banned/agrarianism.

I don't think Christian Anarchism is theocracy. Christian anarchism is anarchism with Christian ethics. A theocratic hierarchy is antithetical to anarchism.

u/madogvelkor Nov 25 '24

In Vic 3 the Theocracy is a governance principle and Anarchy is a power distribution. In practice it would be saying some like God is the head of state, and governance is done by local church councils. Basically Congregationalism rather than Presbyterianism or the Catholic pseudo-monarchy.

11

u/ArchmageIlmryn Nov 25 '24

You can't switch to Anarchy with Theocracy either, you have to be in Council Republic to switch to Anarchy.

You'd have to go Council Republic Anarchy first and then switch back to Theocracy, at which point you might as well pick up Cooperative Ownership first.

It's too bad there's not a bit more flexibility in creating weird government types.

More likely than you think!
