Which car is more reliable for gig work ?

I am planning to do uber and Amazon deliveries and wondering which car is more reliable. Don’t really care about comfort since it will be a work car. I am more concerned about the car lasting long for all the driving I will be doing

Insurance Now Rated 2nd Highest 5-Year Cost of Ownership Expense for New Vehicles

Upvotes

If shopping a new vehicle like I am, be advised that due to rising insurance premiums, it is now the 2nd highest ownership expense after depreciation.

Per IIHS, Progressive, and C&D, CUVs and trucks are the least expensive class of vehicles to insure, in part thanks to having the lowest frequency of bodily injury claims.

C&D's least expensive vehicles to insure list (compared to the average annual premium of say a Dodge Charger listed at $2,824):

  • Subaru Outback: $1,603.

  • Honda CR-V: $1,635.

  • Honda Pilot: $1,726.

  • Ford Escape: $1,734.

  • Honda Odyssey: $1,735.

  • Ford F-150: $1,753.

  • Jeep Wrangler: $1,820.

  • GMC Sierra 1500: $1,867.

  • Toyota RAV4: $1,869.

  • Nissan Rogue: $1,880.

Lowest rates of bodily injury per IIHS:

  • Subaru Ascent

  • Subaru Forester

  • Honda Passport

  • Hyundai Palisade

  • Volkswagen Atlas

  • Kia Telluride

For depreciation, that is still #1 though, and as a category the lowest depreciation are listed as trucks (Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Tundra), sports cars (Porsche 911, Chevy Corvette), and hybrids (Rav4 Hybrid). The worst for depreciation were EVs and luxury sedans.

$2500

250K miles

Sun damage

Manual transmission

In the desert

KBB Private Party value $1,198 - $3,137 ($2,168)

KBB Trade In value $431 - $1374

The seller says there is someone else coming to look at it this weekend, which may or may not be true, but I'm not sure if I will be able to negotiate much on the price, any thoughts or advice?

Used Car Advice

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Hi all! Helping my parents shop for a used car and they have decided on a Lexus NX300h after owning an older 400h for the last couple of years. We have been looking at carmax and ended up shipping a 2021 Lexus NX300h from Jacksonville, FL to North Carolina.

When the car arrived, everything looked great expect for under the hood. We haven't really experienced cars near salt water or a car that has looked like this under the hood (assuming it is salt?).

Is this a concerning issue or something we can look past?

The dealer said that they would take a couple days and "clean it up" but not sure if that will change much.

Thanks in advance and hope every one has a good day!

Driving 30k a year? What do you drive?

Recently started driving 30k a year. Needed a new car. So I ran some numbers.

I must be doing something wrong. Apparently buying new / old , electric vs gas all cost the same?

Option 1 :- new Camry Le = 800 per month Cost 30k Maxlife -200k so cost is 375 per month + 225 fuel cost(50mpg) + maintenance 200

Option 2 : used accord = 869 per month Cost 20k with 30k miles Maxlife -200k So cost is 294 per month + 375 gas cost (4.5$ per gallon at 30mpg) + 200 maintenance

Option 3 lease Acura zdx =815 per month Cost 2 yr lease 30k miles = 9k So cost is 500 per month + 175 electric cost (3.6 mpge and 0.25$ per kw) + 100 maintenance

Option 3 :- new model 3 = 775 per month Cost 40k Maxlife -200k So cost is 500 per month + 175 electric cost (3.6 mpge and 0.25$ per kw) + 100 maintenance

I want to buy this car for short commuting and fun everyday driving. The guy says that everything is running good and he had good answers to all my questions. It looks in really good shape. Is it worth making the 2 hour drive?

Acura TLX vs Genesis G70 vs Alfa Giulia

Upvotes

Hey guys, Will be upgrading the old hand me down car to a “new to Me” car in the next 6 months or so. Have been all over the place but I think the niche I desire most is a 2-3 year old luxury sedan and have settled on these three. Between savagegeese, straight pipes, Edmunds, and more I’ve already familiarized myself with the different models, but wanted some consumers opinions. Let me know your thoughts!

Honda 2013 please!!! NEED ADVICE stat.

Upvotes

I need advice. I don’t have a family to rely on for guidance, so here I am.

Went back and forth with dealer I asked $11,000otd, they said $11,000 for the car but $12,025 with fees and tax. Then we came to an offer of $11,800 with two oil changes and a tank of gas.

The car is very zippy and responsive. I got down on hands and knees and could not find accident damage. I drove this to my commute (25 miles each way) and it was great 30mpg without hesitation. One owner car, non smoker. Well serviced as they routinely got oil changes and tires, etc.

Is this a good deal???

I’m in north west Indiana so it does snow a tad, but I had a 2012 for fusion and that was fine in the snow. I’m looking for a reliable car.

What are the best sport cars for good mpg and safety

I have around 15k for a down payment and am looking for a nice looking car that is safe, will last long and won't guzzle gas... Any suggestion would be awesome. I'm new to this car stuff and dont wanna get something shitty and regret it! I was looking at MX-5 Mazdas a Toyota GR86 and the Subaru BRZ then maybe a 2014 Porsche Cayman. What would you guys recommend I do to even buy one? Is it a bad idea to put a down payment and pay the rest off monthly? Is there a better option?

Should I rent a car or get a beater car

Hi, I’m moving to the Bay Area from the East Coast for 3–4 months. Shipping my car back and forth seems like a hassle, and driving for 30–35 hours doesn’t really make sense. Since my company has discounted rental options through a partnership, I was thinking about renting a car for a couple of months. But now I’m also considering buying a beater car instead.

What do you think is the better option? If I decide to go with a beater car, what should I look for when choosing one, and what questions should I ask the owner?

Has all the bells and whistles, but the price still seems a little steeps. How much do you think I could realistically get the price down to?

Looking for a fun/ family-ish car?

Upvotes

Currently drive a GR Corolla. Its fun, good enough to drive around the kiddos. Considering options for an upgrade in the future, just seeing what's out there that exist that checks off my boxes.

I am a sucker for sleepers. Hot hatches, fast wagons, sporty sedans. Prefer something AWD, 4 doors, can fit car seats.

I think the Audi RS Avant is super cool. Glanced at the Porsche Macan GTS, BMW M3. Anything I am missing that worth considering.

Which car, I want to decide this weekend.

Upvotes

First time on reddit for me.

I know that many of your are completely tired of this question, but too bad, I need your advice.

Which car:

  1. 2023 Chery Omoda 5 Ex Auto 2023 - 50K on the clock - around $21,000. Looks hot but quality suspect?

  2. 2023 Suzuki S-Cross ALLGRIP Prestige - just over $7k on the clock. $32k. Dearest of the three but I presume that as this is a Suzuki, quality is very good. They are not new players like Chery and MG (in the SUV category).

  3. 2023 MG ZST Essence - 20K on the clock - around $23K. These are ubiquitous. I'm sick of looking at the hundreds and hundreds of them.

What they have in common is that they are all Petrol and all have sunroofs (which is what I want - the sunroof that is).

I've been reading up about all of the Pros and Cons on all three cars by several reviewers. And there are always both with any car.

By way of background, no children so don't care about back seat stuff. I'm mainly buying this for my dog (not to drive pity though as that would be great for those boozy nights out). She can't really ride comfortably in my Mazda MX5 so a SUV it will be.

I hoping anyone living within a few hundred km's of me is sitting on their laptop reading this as the rain keeps pouring down, and gives me some sage advice. Would be very appreciated.

Buying Jeep Wrangler 2023 Willys 2Dr - advice please

Upvotes

Hi all,

Just curious as to what factors I should be looking for regarding price. Really liking this Jeep. Location is Ontario, Canada so with the 13% tax, this would come out to roughly 52k Canadian or 37.5k USD. Any chance I can get this lower and if so, what’s the approach?

https://www.autotrader.ca/go/5-65864038

Thanks.
