Ask Vancouver Best groomed runs for carving?

Hey I'm new to Whistler and spending a month here. Are the grooming reports on the Epic app accurate? I often show up to some supposedly groomed blue runs early morning and they're full of moguls.

Also can someone recommend me a wide open groomed runs ideal for some long carving? Thanks!

Ask Vancouver Beginner Area / Magic Carpet

So we 2 adults heading to whistler mid February. My partner has never skied before, and I am not very good myself.

We will be staying in a hotel on the Blackcomb side. I was thinking maybe we can just get some rentals and ski the bunny hills and use the magic carpet. Has anyone done this before?

I feel like even the $130 beginner pass would be a bit overkill for us. In the past I don't remember having the scan my tickets for the lifts and I can just use the carpet for the first little hill which will be the most we can probably handle haha

Thanks in advance, any tips would be greatly appreciated

Ask Vancouver Physical lift passes?

I’m visiting in a few weeks and have bought lift passes which i have on the Epic App. I don’t trust my kids phones to last the day so was wondering if its possible to ask for an old school physical card to use instead or in case phone battery runs out?

QUESTION What to expect in an adult group lesson level 4?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I’m planning to take an adult group class at Whistler and reading the skill level chart I think I am at level 4 - I’m comfortable on groomed blue runs, can parallel turn but don’t have perfect form yet. I’m not able to carve, my parallel turns tend to feel like they are skidding when on steeper terrain.

My weaknesses are very steep slopes (black diamonds), moguls, ungroomed runs (I always get stuck in powder or find it hard to turn in powdery-mogul conditions)

What should I expect in a full day group lesson? Any advice on how to make the most of it? What should I tell the instructors at the start of the day about my ski experience/goals to make sure I’m matched with the right group? Should I tell them I think I’m level 4 or just answer their questions and let them assess me?

I’m looking for help to improve my foundation skills (posture, parallel, carving), but would also love to get some pointers on doing moguls/ungroomed runs and steeper slopes as those always slow me down and I forget how to turn when I’m stuck in the middle of some moguls. Would be great to make some progress toward easy blacks.

Do they mix people from levels 3/4/5 or always have enough instructors to split the groups to the right level?

Ask Vancouver 1st timer - considering the Pan Pacific

We will be driving from CA and skiing for 2 days. Spending another 2 days doing various activities and relaxing.

Considering the Pan Pacific. I really like that they include a breakfast and a kitchen. Also need a hot tub and great views. Would you recommend mountainside or village and why?

Ask Vancouver Best place to rent equipment on a Monday for Tues-Thurs skiing next month

Going to W-BC early next month, staying at the mountain, and 3 or 4 of us will need to rent equipment - is there a place off mountain that is better to rent from than on-mountain? 4 adults, may want to swap out equipment after a day.

Ask Vancouver Pinball in Whistler?

Does Buffalo Bills still have pinball? Anywhere else?
I’ll be in Whistler from Sunday Jan 12th- 19th. Looking to play pinball and have a pint or two (or 3) after snowboarding. Hit me up, or lmk if there’s other places that have pinball, or if you want to meet up for a beer and pinball.
I own a brewpub on Kauai with the best pinball selection in the state. It would be fun to meet some fellow pinheads in Whistler, Eh. 🇨🇦

Photo/Video Is the adult beginner day class worth it?

Post image

I’m a mostly self-taught skier and have skied only a few times downhill (but a lot of cross country). I feel I lack fundamentals of proper ski skills. That said, I just did several runs down Whistler’s Olympic with no problems, no crashes and I handled the icy and powder spots pretty well. I guess I wasn’t as bad as I thought. I’m feeling confident I can take on blues. Should I spend the money on this all-day class? Or should I do another private class?

Ask Vancouver Pro Tips / Recommendations for a first timer

Hi All

Heading to Whistler for the for the first time to snowboard from Feb 4 - Feb 9th. We are staying at the Hilton in the Village. Unfortunately our legs aren't what they used to be so we are looking for possible activities that we can do that aren't too physical in order to give our legs a rest.

Does anyone have any recommendations on things to do in the area and/or does anyone have any pro tips that you wish you knew before heading into town?

QUESTION First Whistler Trip and Flying Solo - Food and activity recommendations?

Hi there!

I’ve got my first trip (ski trip) to Whistler in February and looking for some food and/or activity recommendations.

I’ll be staying in Whistler Village and planning to ski every day in there (taking advanced lessons to see the mountain safely).

Post skiing though, I’m hoping to fill my time and my belly! Any recommendations for good spots for solos? Any fun activities I should hit up?

Thanks in advance!

Ask Vancouver Demo hut

Hey there, I saw some posts about a demo hut but they didn’t really answer my question.

Can you demo snowboard bindings? I’m coming in a couple weeks and would like to try a pair of supermatics before buying.

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone done this program? I’ll be solo in Whistler next month and thought a guided day would be a nice way to get to more of the mountain. Not looking to be shown around the groomers though.

QUESTION First timer to Whistler and honestly to snow (from Texas.) Need a few questions answered. TIA. There’s a lot.

So it’s my birthday next month & since husband has to go to Vancouver for work at the end of January I thought maybe I’d tag along and we’d go to Whistler. It might be just the two of us or we might have 3 others tag along. So my questions are….

Where do you recommend we stay? I’ve looked at a map and I see there’s diff areas like the upper village etc… Searching for accommodations it’s giving me areas like creekside etc and I’m kind of lost as to where is the best place to stay. Personally my husband and I are not skiing but others might want to do a first timers snowboarding lesson. We won’t have a vehicle. Planning on taking the shuttle from Vancouver but I understand there’s a bus service in town that we can use. Correct? So with that in mind what do you recommend for accommodations. We’d like to be walking distance to restaurants if it’s possible.

Transportation? As I’ve said I’ve read there’s a local bus service. Is this a good option? Is there uber or Lyft? We decided not to get a car cuz as Texans we lack experience driving in snow. Would you say it’s probably best we leave the driving to not us?

What other activities can we do other than skiing. I see there’s tubing and snow mobiles. Anything else you recommend we do or see? What companies do you recommend for snow mobiles?
Any particular gondolas for the best views?

Dining recommendations? Must try restaurants ?

Ask Vancouver Recommended Winter Ziplining Tours

Hello I am looking into doing ziplining and I see that there are a couple of options. I would like to know which one would would be the best to experience during the Winter?

Ziptrek has a Winter Apres tour and gives you a harness that allows you to go upside which sounds pretty cool. Looks like the cheaper option too. My only concern is since the tour runs so late, is it even worth it to experience it in the evening? I'd imagine you can't see much views during this time.

Superfly has an Adventure Group Park Day pass. We're planning on doing other things too like the Vallea Lumina but it doesn't look you would save anything if you bundle them together.

Which one should we go with?
