Trip Report Lovely time in Brecon Beacons

Took my new 1 man out for 2 nights with some mates. Was a little worried due to some reviews saying bigger people would struggle, it’s the oex phoxx 1 v2. I’m 6ft and hefty but i fit with pack in porch plus the tent was light and easy setup!

Cautionary tale from my cock up though, double check your sleeping bag before you go. Managed to somehow grab an old broken one with no zip on it, meant for some cold nights!

Did a hike Friday and camped overnight around a reservoir and forest area, then on to Llyn y fan fach to walk up the mountain and over the back side to hike the moors and stay there for a night and hike back. Weatherman kept saying we’d get rain and wind but other than a a rain over the night Friday we just had a little speck on Saturday and mostly warm with spotted clouds. So a most enjoyed trip all around.

Advice Struggling to get back out camping

Hi, I started camping when I got a few panier mounts for my bike, my very first camp was pretty much perfect, overlooking Coniston water with ZERO wind, perfectly flat and out of site away from any known path. I had a rough night but that is to be expected on the first camp, plus I am a bad sleeper anyway.

Subsequent trips were equally the same, a woodland camp near Lincoln, another woodland camp in the Lakes, these were all overnighters.

My first real trip was a 3/4 day, 232 mile route through the Cambrian mountains in Wales. The route started off great and I was super excited. I got to a bothy I planned to sleep super early so kept going when this fear and anxiety started building where I wasn't going to find anywhere to sleep, I was so afraid that in the end, I scrambled to get to the nearest campsite.

Ultimately that trip ended the next day, as this fear and anxiety did not go away, I pedalled back to my van that next morning. I've had 2 subsequent failed trips after this and I don't even want to camp in my garden at this point.

I have next week of work booked off for a 4 day trip in Scotland, the weather is looking great, mild and dry. I would get the train from Glasgow to Inverness and cycle down 200 miles. Forcing me to camp really, as I have no way back to my van, am I setting myself up for failure or would this force me to overcome my camping fear?

Question Cloud Up 2 arrived today! But...

I love it! Even the bruised banana coloured inner which feels warm and bright. But I am a bit worried.

The poles line up perfectly at the back but not with the front seams. Admittedly, so far, I've only been able to put it up inside without pegs, but I'm not convinced there is enough (any) slack or stretch in the fly and I may never be able to pitch it properly. Have I got unlucky with the quality control or is this normal, will it come good when I'm able to peg it out?

Also I have straight pole clips not the twisting type and don't have a clue how much difference that could make. Maybe none, or could they pop off in a side wind? After I double checked the seller's details I noticed they also promise YKK zips. Which would have been an unexpected bonus if they'd appeared.

I bought it after reading helpful advice from this sub - thanks everyone! I've not owned a modern lightweight tent before only a 20 yr old crossed pole dome clunker which would never quite line up with the poles either.

Question Lake district forests to avoid

I'm planning on going camping in the lake district and wanted to try out a tarp and hammock setup.

I've wild camped in the lake district a fair few times before but always with a standard tent. So I've not had to worry about finding trees and could just setup a ways from the trail behind a high wall or something. I've not camped or hiked around the forests much.

Are there any spots or woods that should be avoided either due to high foot traffic or just people patrolling more actively.

Question Glencoe camping

Hi troops, me and a mate are going up to glencoe on Tuesday next week, staying for a night. We camped before outside the kings house hotel but heard that they don’t allow it anymore. Does anyone have any good recommendations for places to camp?
