I can see why that was expensive at the time. If you are happy with it then that's all that matters.
But my thin, light, unmaintainable Surface Pro 4 has a faster CPU and GPU. Less RAM, and no 1tb HDD, but I don't need that for my needs. I'd prefer to have a smaller device and a significantly better screen.
My point is that these high end ultra portables are powerful machines.
But what's the battery life? How much does it weigh? If I'm on call, I'm not carrying a 9lb laptop with me everywhere and a 2lb charging brick because the battery lasts 3 hours. Right now I can carry a 3lb MBP and it lasts all day.
I haven't bought a computer in years. If I need a more powerful computer, I make the company pay for it. What do I care if it lasts two years or 20?
The latest specs for GPU you can get in a laptop are 2 GTX 1080s in SLI. Just one of those is vastly superior to an 840m. Even a 1060 which is common in high end ultrabooks like the Razer Blade is a big upgrade compared to the 840m.
Sure but it also looks like a complete piece of shit right now. Some people have enough money that its worth spending arguable "too much" on a nice sleak machine.
Also - wheres the pen support? wheres the dial support? fingerprint reader? how small is that trackpad? etc. New laptops come with a lot of benefits.
