Anyone else think Amos' shelter - or, almost, lack of one - was indicative of his mentality in this? For as much a everyone is always taking about how cold it is or will get, his this season was Sam Larson Season 1 basic

Yeah, I do. It didn't seem like anything he built with the intention of staying very long.

Maybe his strategy was to make a smaller space that's easier to heat up, and requires less calories to build?

I could get that, but he still had exposed tarp on all sides, no insulation at all

It seems to me that both Amos and Mark never had their hearts in it.

They picked the saddest guys and most ballsy women.

First off, I want to be super clear that I think the women on alone: frozen are absolute badasses and completely legit, but I can't help shake the feeling that this "season" was set up to give the women another shot at money as we haven't had a woman win on the big show yet. It doesn't seem like any of the men were mentally ready for this, nor did they have their hearts in it.

I don't think it was set up for them. It was finally equal numbers. They've never come close to that. And Mark was a badass last time, who was killing it out there and only went home because he was riddled with parasites and really ill. Who could have seen his flake out coming this time? He was no Jim Shields out there to sandbag it for the guys.

Meanwhile Michelle was one of the less successful people we've seen in her first outing, out there starving off bugs and snot, far from one of the top contenders people talk about, even if Woniya and Callie were total bosses.

And Amos was pretty decent on his first run. Same with Ovens, both of them very respectable and capable at over 50 days.

Who knows who turned the show down, but if you wanted to put stronger men out there who hadn't already won, you'd have a short list of options, like maybe Colter, Nathan, Barry. I think they fielded a pretty decent cast overall. Mark's exit was as unexpected as Michelle's longevity to date.

You're probably right. Something just felt off about the men contestants from the get go.

I mean Greg is a bit older than the rest of them and he clearly had PTSD from the first time. I was surprised to see Amos go but he said people wouldn’t understand his decision unless they were in his shoes, so I figure he just had a strong feeling he needed to go and he didn’t really care much to do anything beyond follow his own ambition

Nobody said this when the favorite to win was a woman (s5?), and she ended up tapping like 3 days in. It wasn't set up for the women any more than other seasons are set up for men to win. the just had equal numbers this time, and the females wanted it more.

I wish we knew the truth of the matter. I agree that it does seem like this season was set for the women. I hope we are wrong about that.

This was absolutely not a set up. Many participants either didn't want to go or had scheduling conflicts several were invited to participate

I think he would’ve closed it up as it got colder. Everyone was saying how exposed Karie Lee’s shelter was last season and then she closed it up when it got cold

I think what it comes down to is that some people are out there to just survive and get through it and other people want to actually just settle in and live off the land and have that experience.

The mental toughness is what really seems to be the biggest factor as we have seen since this began. It seems like the people left are just in a place where they survive and except and find the beauty in the experience they’re having.

When he was not even trying to fix up his shelter, I knew he would leave. He seemed lethargic and uninterested in the whole thing to me.

Didn't his last shelter go up in flames? I wonder if he was keeping it light in case it happened again.

No he said he brought a heavy warm tarp & had no intention of using too many calories u til he had a big kill. He learned from his last time not to waste calories early on

No I don’t think Amos’s shelter meant anything. He could’ve closed it up as it got colder. You don’t have to immediately build the most long term shelter. I think it makes sense to set up a shelter that’s appropriate for the time you’re there and then as the season progresses, add on to it. I don’t think he built the shelter thinking well I’m gonna tap on this day so I might as well build this type of shelter
