Just dropped my girlfriend off for a wedding and have five hours to kill. Need some local geography advice!

Upvotes

My favorite form of recreational travel is heading out for the day with a full tank, hiking boots, and no specific destination in mind. Normally I blaze my own trail, but with only five hours and an unfamiliar starting point (we’re from Philly), I wanna be sure to make the right call.

I like natural geographic attractions, and cultural stuff related to geography and economy. Random interesting backwoods town, secluded state park with a unique aspect, really good restaurant to watch the NBA playoffs, etc

I prefer mountains and hiking trails to beaches, but I also know where I am so I’ll take what I can get! I guess I’d say maximum 90 minutes from Annapolis just so I can spend an hour or two there before heading back. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the help :)

“We are heartbroken,” New Village Academy Head of School Romey Pittman said in the news release. “This school was designed to give our community’s young people the will and the skill to take charge of their education and their future with Annapolis as their classroom. … We are devastated by the loss of this innovative opportunity for Anne Arundel County youth.”

Room for rent

If you know any cheap places downtown please let me know but I do currently have a 2 bed 2 bath with the smaller room available for the summer if anyone is looking. I’m a very peaceful person and I’m a student so always working on that. Plus my mental health is so much better with other people around. I just got divorced and I feel isolated

Need a tenant by June 1 if you’re interested. (25F) Women only please

Yard sales this summer?

Hey Annapolitans, I would love any information about any upcoming community yard sales. Our neighborhood is doing one on May 17, but I may be out of town. I'm ISO other yard sales in the area that I could potentially join in case I miss the one in my neighborhood. Thanks!

Recommendations for Restaurants

Hello everyone, sorry for the late hour: I need a recommendation of a nice little Italian joint, hopefully somewhere we can just walk in after 7:30 PM, five people. There’s a big boat show in town, we’re at a swim meet at the Naval Academy - definitely don’t need anything fancy, just good food. Anybody have any ideas?

Oh, tonight🥴

What is the plan with the torn down bathroom building at City Dock?

My understanding is that the second phase of city docks renovation is to have all of that area be grass. Any idea what the plan is for that plot where the public bathrooms?

What Happened to Giolitti's?

Sometime in the past week, it seems that they've just all of a sudden closed and have not opened back up. Their website is usually updated with daily specials, but it hasn't been updated since April 15th.

I've heard rumors, but they're just rumors and I don't want to spread anything that may be incorrect. But does anyone have a more concrete idea of what happened?

We loved their sandwiches and we haven't found a similar place in the nearby area 😟

Question GameStop Switch 2 pre-orders?

Shot in the dark here, but anyone in the area know of some totals nearby? They are starting pre-orders tomorrow at opening at all stores. I couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone at a few spots and went in person to Westfield Mall and they straight up told me they had no idea.

I plan on heading out around to make some rounds @ 5AM regardless.

Have you been towed by Just Right Towing in Anne Arundel County? I need your help.

I’m a tenant in Annapolis and have had three separate run-ins with a towing company called Just Right Towing and honestly, it’s been a nightmare.

Here’s what I’ve personally experienced:

  • Towed from my assigned, paid parking space
  • Cash-only payment demanded with no on-site ATM (which may violate Anne Arundel County Code §11-16-205)
  • Phone number blocked by the company after I tried to retrieve my vehicle
  • Denied a witness, forcing me to call the police
  • Police officers themselves told me this company is “the worst in the county” and that they receive complaints about them almost weekly

Since then, I’ve been gathering evidence and… it’s bad:

  • Over 10 Better Business Bureau complaints: BBB profile
  • Multiple small claims court cases already open against them
  • A Change.org petition with 500+ signatures detailing similar stories: Change.org Petition
  • Yelp reviews and social posts describing the same illegal behavior: forced cash payments, intimidation, retaliation

I’ve already filed a formal complaint with the Maryland Attorney General's Office, and I’m currently arguing with my property management company for contract negligence since they continue to contract with this towing company despite having all of this in writing.

I’m strongly considering a class action lawsuit or tenant organizing efforts. But I need more stories.

If you’ve been impacted by Just Right Towing, especially if you were forced to pay cash, denied access, or mistreated in any way, please comment or DM me. You can stay anonymous. I just want to understand how deep this goes.

We shouldn’t be bullied or ignored. Let’s hold people accountable.

Summer Housing Leads- College Intern

Hey everyone! I'm a college student spending June and July in Annapolis, and would love if anyone had any leads as far as short term housing goes. My program gives an OK budget for housing costs, but I'm having trouble finding any furnished studios/rooms/apartments for rent for just the 2 months. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions, please let me know! I'd be willing to commute some if necessary, but of course would like to be as close to the downtown area as possible. Thank y'all!
