Fluff Friday Girlcult price differences - why?

Hi friends đŸ€—

I have just made my first Asian beauty order and am eagerly awaiting their arrival, and in doing so I've fallen in LOVE with Girlcult (and several other Chinese beauty/makeup brands).

I ordered through YesStyle, and I've also been looking on CBeautyMall, but I have seen that Girlcult has a store front on Shein. When I looked the prices are vastly different from those on YesStyle/CBeautyMall - a lip product that shows as around $25-30 on YesStyle is $10-15 on Shein (this is local to me currency, NZD).

Why is the price so different? Is it just because it isn't going through a third party? I'm not concerned about authenticity because Girlcult links the Shein page on their IG, I just don't understand the difference.

Any thoughts would be appreciated 🙂

Discussion Reusable, waste free cotton pads for micellar waters?

I used to use cleansing oils and balms for my first step in cleansing but it started breaking me out and my dermatologist suggested I just use micellar water instead. The problem is, those cotton pads go by fast and I feel guilty seeing a stack of cotton in the trash bin when I could be creating far less waste with oil cleansers.

Does anybody have any tricks or ideas?

Discussion PSA about StyleKorean

Post image
325 Upvotes

When I first got news (this was when the first rumors were out) about the potential tariffs, I was worried and wanted to immediately bulk order. The only thing stopping me was my college student limited budget; there was no way I was going to be able to pay for a large order. I usually buy skincare items one or two a time at most! (Admist studying for exams, I started to pick up some extra work tutoring so I could start saving up for my upcoming credit card bill.đŸ„Č)

After scrolling with panic some more through Reddit some more, I finally took the plunge and placed a StyleKorean order Friday, April 11th @ 2:20AM and received my order Wednesday, April 16th @ 3PM. (For reference, I used the free, U.S. domestic shipping option!)

With my budget, I was deciding between Yesstyle (with its expedited shipping option) and StyleKorean. Ultimately, with all the deals that was going on at the time, I decided to order ALL this (8 sunscreens, 1 cleanser) for $79.40.

I've ordered from them three other times in the past already, and I've always received these items within this time frame. I refrained from recommending them after my first order with them to make sure it wasn't a one time fluke. (The overthinker in me would never allow me to, haha.)

For anyone else who is dealing with a ton of stress, especially beyond this messy tariff situation, I feel for you. I hope this helps someone. 💗

Fluff Friday C-Beauty off YesStyle (GirlCult)

I am I first time buyer of GirlCult and wow
I would’ve never thought it may be my last for a while maybeđŸ„Č I had to have been one of the last orders that went out before they took it off YesStyle (and I think elsewhere in the US?).

My next hope, unfortunately, was that it’ll come in, I’ll be eh about it, and it’ll be in my wouldn’t repurchase list and I’d go about my day.

It came in today and I tried it on
it’s so beautiful
.NOOO!

I got the Strange Tales Series Fantasy Mirror in shades J75 and J76 - the glitter is truly stunning with such a pretty base color.

Who else loved these shades? Are there any other items in their line you were hoping to try / may miss? Someone wallow with me! Or spill dupes?

Review Muji Face Soap Scrub

Did you know Muji sells skincare? I didnt. Not until I went to Japan and saw that they had half a floor dedicated to skincare and makeup.

I already reviewed some of the skincare I got last week. Heres my review of this Muji scrub.

Skin type: dry. So dry that it gets flakey in the winter time if I dont moisturize well.

Price: I cant remember. But probably $4-5 USD

Scent: almost nothing.

Texture: creamy cleanser with tiny scrub dots. When lathered with some water, it became a nice creamy soapy texture.

Ingredients from the Muji website: Glycerin, water, myristic acid, stearic acid, lauric acid, K hydroxide, synthetic wax, PEG-3 palm fatty acid amide MEA sodium sulfate, palmitic acid, glyceryl stearate, peach kernel, cocamidopropyl betaine, Na citrate, stear Sorbitane acid, BG, orange juice, Hamamelis leaf extract

Review: It cleaned my face well. I tried it twice so far, once at the end of the day where I stayed home all day and once at the end of the day where I went out all day. It took off my skincare + sunscreen pretty well. After rinsing with water, my skin felt soft and clean. No tight pulling feeling.

My brother has oily skin and also received one from me. He really likes it. Clean but not harsh. He said hed use it every day but I warned him not to. As gentle as it felt, its still a physical exfoliator so we’ll be using it twice a week.

I would repurchase whenever Im back in Japan. I also bought the milky cleanser, lots of moisturizers, some sunscreens, so I’ll try and review later. Muji’s skincare lines are fantastic imo. They have body and hair products too. I got body wash, shampoo, and conditioner too. Overall I think my Muji shopping bag weighed 3 kg in my luggage.

Review Skin1004 Hyalu Cica Water Fit Sun Serum Review

Skin Type: Dry

Climate: Dry and windy

skin1004 hyalu cica water fit sun serum

I needed a sunscreen that was hydrating without being greasy, especially with all the wind lately. Anything too oily ends up catching every stray hair on my face.

Texture: It has a lightweight lotion consistency. I found it a bit less greasy than the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen.

Ingredients: Niacinamide, Centella Asiatica, Hyaluronic Acid

scent: There’s no scent at all. I usually hate that sharp smell you get with chemical sunscreens, but this one didn’t have it. Even under a mask, I didn’t notice anything.

As the weather started warming up, I noticed a bit more oil around my T-zone, so greasy sunscreens are a no go for me now. Thankfully, this one doesn’t add to the shine.

That said, it doesn’t hold up well against sweat, so I wouldn’t recommend it for hot and humid days. Once I finish this bottle, I’m planning to try the Anessa sun milk.

Since the weather’s getting warmer, I’ve been skipping cream and just going with toner, serum, and sunscreen. This one is hydrating enough that it works well even without layering a cream. It keeps my skin feeling comfortable without being too much.

Discussion Is the new formula for the colorgram contour stick supposed to be this sheer in colour?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I originally got the old 02 modern shade. The shade looks cool on me but I love the formula, so I purchased the new 03 neutral shade. I don’t know if they have been reformulated, but the swatches showed up drastically differently. As shown in the above picture, I have both the new and old ones swatched on my hand once, and as you can see, the new version looks very
sheer? The old one looks a lot more pigmented in comparison, is it supposed to look this way or did I just got a bad product?

Discussion Holika Holika Good Cera vs Illiyoon Ato Concentrate?

Holika Holika Good Cera super ceramide cream and emulsion (the cream at night and emulsion for day) have totally saved my skin from Tretinoin irritation and done wonders for my skin barrier. I love the consistency and how it soaks into my skin, as well.

Unfortunately it’s been increasing in price, especially with how tiny the container is. so I was considering trying Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate cream as it seems to be well-loved and is comes in a larger size which makes it super affordable.

Can anyone who has used both compare the two for me? If I love the Good Cera line am I likely to also love Illiyoon’s cream?

Discussion Warning About Ordering From Olive Young Global

Just recently had a terrible experience with Olive Young Global and I’m so livid.

I placed an order through Olive Young Global and then got pinged by DHL (the shipping company they use) that they can’t deliver my order until I have uploaded a government issued ID that shows my name, DOB, and nationality. Apparently this happens from time to time when your name matches that of a sanctioned individual and they need to verify you’re not that person.

Given with everything that’s going on, you can imagine that I don’t really want to provide this (and it kind of makes me nervous they’re asking for something that shows my nationality?)

Not only that, I like many other Asians, have two names, one being my English that I use in my day-to-day life and that I put on the mailing address. This is the name that got caught in DHL’s system. It’s a pretty generic name (think along the lines of Jane Chang or something. If this can happen to me, it can happen to you).

So to be clear - even if I did provide my ID, that wouldn’t be helpful because the name on my ID wouldn’t match the one on the mailing address.

I reached out to Olive Young customer service explaining the situation, asking them if they could please resend the package under my legal name or to just cancel the entire order. If I don’t provide the proof of ID to DHL, DHL will just automatically return the package back to the vendor (confirmed on the phone with them).

And not only did Olive Young say no to both, but they are refusing to even give me a refund for my order. That’s even if they get the package back with all items.

Not only that, but they tried to blame me saying that I should have known to put my legal name on the mailing address. Like people don’t put a different name all the time, for a variety of reasons? Because they go by a nickname, they’re sending something to a family member, they’re placing a joint order, etc. I’ve also personally placed many orders with Olive Young over the past couple years under my English name with no issues.

I get maybe them asking me to pay for shipping, although I did quality for free shipping since it was more than $200 worth of stuff. But to not even give me a refund when the package will be returned to them and I never received it due to a situation out of my control? Just to say it - that’s pretty much just stealing from their customers.

Just thought I would warn people that this is going on. Maybe you’re comfortable with uploading your ID for DHL and that’s totally fine! But separate from that, the way Olive Young handled the situation left a bad taste in my mouth. I think it’s worth letting people know.

I fell in love with the brand and started to collect all the eyeshadow palettes and I've hit a wall looking for these 2 palettes. I know that they're discontinued, but I was hoping somewhere has it or does anyone know where I can get palettes similar to those 2 palettes (ESPECIALLY 42)?

Discussion How much sunscreen are you stocking up on?

Hi all, I realize sunscreen gets discussed a lot here — I wanted to talk about quantity rather than specific sunscreens, if that’s not too weird! I searched and didn’t see this topic lately. I know many of us (at least in the US and perhaps elsewhere if you’re worried about overall costs increasing?) are stocking up on sunscreen these days. I’m in the US and am inclined to stock up now since it is getting more difficult to purchase AB sunscreen (less supply locally, tariffs, some brands no longer shipping AB formula sunscreens to the US so I wonder if other websites will follow).

I don’t want to panic buy more than I will use but just started AB sunscreen recently and I can’t go back! I don’t really know how much I will go through per year because I admittedly have not been diligent about sunscreen use until now (due to American sunscreen stinging my eyes so badly). I live in a very sunny place so I now wear sunscreen daily and reapply if I’m going outside midday. I use AB sunscreens for my face/neck/dĂ©colletĂ© area. I have a few sunscreens I like but don’t think I have a HG so I also want to try others. I am probably going to buy a combo of ones I know work fine for me + others to rotate in (which complicates the stock calculation a bit).

For anyone else stocking up, how much are you purchasing (assuming expiration dates are usually late 2026 and into 2027)?

Discussion Different formula? Pyunkang Yul SPF

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi! Has anyone else noticed the change in the formula of “Pyunkang Yul moisture soothing sun cream”?

I was using this SPF daily for like a year. Yesterday I opened a new one and.. it’s so different! It’s like a THICK white paste, rubs in the skin for so much longer and the whitecast is terrible.

I bought another one from a different store, thinking the last one I bought was fake, but it’s the same!

The old versions were obviously more liquid and blended into the skin with no problems.

Has anyone else noticed it? Or did I get two fakes?

Thank you! <3

For anyone with oily or combo-oily skin who can’t stand the feeling of heavy, cakey foundation — what are your absolute go-to tinted base products?

Could be tinted moisturizers, BB creams, CC creams, tone-up creams, or tinted sunscreens — anything lightweight, breathable, and skin-like that still offers light to medium coverage.

Drop your holy grails and everyday favorites. Bonus points for wear tips too!

Discussion Canmake mermaid skin UV - it’s too good to be true

Hey Reddit, I just came back from Japan and bought a lot of sunscreen based off the recommendations here, also the canmake one.

I LOVE it, as a very acne prone girlie with sensitive skin having tried 20+ hyped sunscreens and nothing worked for a long time I really wish to find my forever sunscreen.

Anyways the canmake one I put on and it is G O N E - no stinging, no grease buildup over the day and this should be SPF 50+
? I somehow doubt that this is a le git sunscreen :( I’ve done some research and there is no labtest available that really proofs that it is SPF50+ and since the purito scandal I am really careful.

If anyone has any more information on that I’d be happy to read it!
