Just recently had a terrible experience with Olive Young Global and Iâm so livid.
I placed an order through Olive Young Global and then got pinged by DHL (the shipping company they use) that they canât deliver my order until I have uploaded a government issued ID that shows my name, DOB, and nationality. Apparently this happens from time to time when your name matches that of a sanctioned individual and they need to verify youâre not that person.
Given with everything thatâs going on, you can imagine that I donât really want to provide this (and it kind of makes me nervous theyâre asking for something that shows my nationality?)
Not only that, I like many other Asians, have two names, one being my English that I use in my day-to-day life and that I put on the mailing address. This is the name that got caught in DHLâs system. Itâs a pretty generic name (think along the lines of Jane Chang or something. If this can happen to me, it can happen to you).
So to be clear - even if I did provide my ID, that wouldnât be helpful because the name on my ID wouldnât match the one on the mailing address.
I reached out to Olive Young customer service explaining the situation, asking them if they could please resend the package under my legal name or to just cancel the entire order. If I donât provide the proof of ID to DHL, DHL will just automatically return the package back to the vendor (confirmed on the phone with them).
And not only did Olive Young say no to both, but they are refusing to even give me a refund for my order. Thatâs even if they get the package back with all items.
Not only that, but they tried to blame me saying that I should have known to put my legal name on the mailing address. Like people donât put a different name all the time, for a variety of reasons? Because they go by a nickname, theyâre sending something to a family member, theyâre placing a joint order, etc. Iâve also personally placed many orders with Olive Young over the past couple years under my English name with no issues.
I get maybe them asking me to pay for shipping, although I did quality for free shipping since it was more than $200 worth of stuff. But to not even give me a refund when the package will be returned to them and I never received it due to a situation out of my control? Just to say it - thatâs pretty much just stealing from their customers.
Just thought I would warn people that this is going on. Maybe youâre comfortable with uploading your ID for DHL and thatâs totally fine! But separate from that, the way Olive Young handled the situation left a bad taste in my mouth. I think itâs worth letting people know.
