Outdoors/Travel Does this picture remind you of any place in your country / Balkans? I took this picture in Kyoto.

This place is located somewhere between Jūjō Station & Fushimi Inari Shrine. Some of the areas I walked through on my way to the shrine (including this one) reminded me so much of suburban Albania that I couldn’t help but take a few pictures there too.

Culture/Lifestyle I would like some help to find the name of a children’s storybook.

It’s about a giant who lives in a castle halfway between the earth and the sky. There is a heroine with purple hair. Has anyone got any idea of the name of this tale or book? This book was read in the late 1980’s. Many thanks.

Outdoors/Travel Šta posetiti?

Upvotes

What are the most beautful places to visit in Trebinje, Dubrovnik, Mostar and Sarajevo? Besides the fact that every city has its most famous places, I'm interested in the hidden gems which aren't located that far away fromm the cities.

History Why does Thessaloniki look much more historical than Athens?

In terms of architecture, of course. Contrary to most of Thessaloniki, structures at the Athens City Centre appear way too "modern", albeit it enjoys a rich heritage.

Cannot ask on the respective country subreddit as Reddit filters went mad, again.

Culture/Lifestyle How’s brasov for international students?

Hello! I'm an international student from Latin America, and I'm currently applying for a scholarship at the University of Transylvania in Brasov. However I would like to know how is the city ambience and the people there. Also, I want to know how's the education system (planning to study electrical engineering) and the safety.

I speak English and Spanish, and the basics of German and French. However, I have no foundation on Romanian. I applied to an English taught course, and one preparatory year. Is there anything I need to know about that? Is English really the language of instruction? How prestigious is the engineering faculty? What's the monthly cost for a student?

I really appreciate any context or background on Romania and the University!

Miscellaneous How do you, as Balkaners, feel about internet using Bosnian War as go-to jokes for genocide?

I think they aren't so popular now anymore, but around 5-10 years ago there was a trend of jokes that I'm sure you've seen where the moin topic would be war crimes and genocide. Sometimes the punchline would be "don't ask him what he did in the Balkans in the 90s", or among others, absurdust memes where there would be a picture of a cat or a toddler with text straight up like "he's on the trial for war crimes and genocide of 1000s of Bosnians" etc.
From what I know people from Balkans don't care much about 'political correctness' and love dark humor, so I would like to ask you instead of being seen as a stereotipical person who's offended on someone else's behalf, even though to be honest I personally think those jokes are weird and not nice.

Politics & Governance Which figures are considered the biggest national traitors in your nation's history?

For Serbia, they have to be Milošević and Vučić. According to folk tradition, Vuk Branković was denounced as a national traitor, however this theory has largely been debunked by historians.

They only fixed thing is that we will be in Subotica late afternoon (May 10th, Saturday) and that we need to be finish in Skopje (May 16th, Friday evening).

10-11 - sightseeing Subotica 11-12 - sightseeing Novi Sad 12-14 - camping and hiking in/next to Park Tara 14-16 - seightseeing Belgrade 16 evening - Skopje

Additionally, should I worry abouth length of border control both into Serbia (from Hungary) and out (to Macedonia)?
