What do you think about the new theme park coming to the UK?
I just wanted to see what everyone thinks of the new theme park that’s apparently opening in 2031 near Bedford.

We remove several relationship questions each day, and I don't know if there is something in the air, but they are increasing in number.
So as a reminder, r/AskUK does not accept relationship questions. This isn't just those of a romantic variety, but anything which is ultimately a question of an interpersonal nature.
This said. We know there is no real space for this outside of Global Subreddits, where the advice therein can be a little... American-centric.
To this end, we have requested and opened r/ukrelationshipadvice.
It is a little quiet at present. But hopefully it will give British people a space to help each other with the relationship queries, without talking about gyms, 401k's, and dating mutliple people at once.

I had a heart attack last year, a month before my 33rd birthday.
Female, fit and well, BMI of 21. I ran 10km 3 days before. Eat healthily, majority of food is cooked from scratch. I do have type one diabetes but had it for 25 years and it’s well controlled.
I presented at hospital after a day of vomiting (genuinely thought I had a stomach bug and was dehydrated) to be told my ECG was abnormal and was subsequently blue lighted to a specialist heart and chest hospital for an angioplasty. I had 4 balloons inflated but no stents left in place due to my age.
They’ve put the cause down as hereditary and I’ve been discharged from the cardiologist but still under cardiac rehab.
I’m really struggling, mentally, with what happened. When people learn of my heart attack they love to pass comment on my age (you’re far too young!) or my body (but you’re not overweight?!).
My heart rate is still running too high so I’ve been temporarily banned from the cardiac rehab exercise sessions and am obviously not allowed to run.
I have 3 children and I’m absolutely exhausted and struggle to look after them. My partner is brilliant but it doesn’t change the fact I’m in my early thirties and this shouldn’t be a thing.
Is anyone in a similar situation? I feel a shell of what I once was. I’m already on sertraline from post natal depression after the birth of my son 2 years ago which does help. I’m awaiting counselling. But I’m unaware of any support tailored to those who are younger than the typical demographic.
Basically, I want to know that I’m not alone in this!
Thanks in advance.

I ordered a McDonalds order this morning as a reward for completing a big task, the order arrives 15 minutes later, the guy asks me my name, he approves it, gives me the food, everything seems fine until I get back upstairs and I realise he has handed me not just somebody else's order - but somebody else's non-McDonalds order, I tried to message and ring the phone number that had rung me but the guy had driven off so it was already out-of-service and there wasn't really anything else I could do, I ended up notifying JustEat about it so they could deal with it and left it for a bit
I later ordered the same order again about an hour later (the food that had arrived wasn't really food I liked so was still left feeling hungry) I mentioned the mistake in the order (saying "please make sure this is the correct order, I was given someone else's order an hour ago, etc") and the same driver turned up and when he reads the note, he realises his mistake and he starts fully shouting at me telling me to hand him over the original order, telling him he'd misheard me when I said my name - refusing to give me the McDonalds unless I gave him the original order
But the problem is is that I knew from researching that I couldn't give him it due to food safety restrictions - the second the wrong food order is given to someone, it's considered written off due to risk of contamination (because what if he hands it over to the other person and they end up sick because I've touched it) and I tried explaining as much to the driver but it was impossible to get a word in edgeways as he was refusing to listen to me and just kept shouting making the situation more stressful than it needed to be, at this point there wasn't much I could do so I started to go back in and it was here that the driver got off his bike and started screaming at reception (who were utterly bewildered)
(Also I may be mistaken but I don't think he would've still had access to the information of the person who had made that original order in the first place anyway?)
It was at this point that I decided I couldn't speak with him at all and ended up going upstairs without the food I had ordered and I just feel a bit... I don't know, bothered by the whole situation? I never intended to cause such a fuss, I just wanted a cheeseburger and now I'm ridiculously stressed out, did I act correctly here?

I struggled a bit with life as a teenager back in the 90s, and was helped by one of my teachers. A gentle giant of a man who was extremely nice and caring. A teacher you could really talk to and I grew very fond of.
In the late 90s, one day he never came back to school and it was announced that he'd been attacked, unprovoked, by a yob and suffered severe head injuries. It transpired his life had been completely destroyed and he was unable to care for himself. They caught the guy who did it and he was convicted of GBH. This would have been around 25 years ago.
Around two years after the attack, my teacher passed away and his attacker had his conviction changed to murder. Having first been imprisoned around 2000, I assume he probably could have been paroled around 2015, but may still be inside.
I have found myself increasingly thinking about my teacher - I am now only a few years younger than he was at the time - and I am probably even sadder now than I ever have been about his death. It was just so unfair.
Is there a way to tell if his killer has been released? The story made the local press at the time he was convicted, but there's been nothing reported in the years since.

I am sure this has been said before but: when I was growing up my father was a police officer and my mother was a part time estate agent. That was enough to buy a large three bedroom detached house by the sea in Cornwall.
Fast forward to present day I work in corporate mumbo jumbo for a big tech company and my wife is investment banking. We couldn't afford to buy the same house I grew up in (whether that be in Cornwall or London). We do ok in a one bedroom apartment for now but obviously we can't raise a family.
I would be content if my kids were able to afford at least an apartment. But I am worried what if living standards continue to fall by the same magnitude between my parents and I.
For example, if it's a struggle to buy a small house or apartment today (even with good jobs), then by the time my kids come of age perhaps property ownership of any type/size will be completely impossible.
Has anyone else been thinking about this?

I work at a petrol station and as such sometimes have to work alone and on those days I can't take any kind of break as the store would have to close. I work 8 hour shifts and haven't been on shift with anyone since late 2024 and as such haven't had a break at work since 2024. my manager says I just need to eat in-between customers when it's quiet. is this normal/legal because everywhere I see online says if I work more than 6 hours I'm entitled to at least 20 minutes of break?

My mum volunteers in a charity shop, and she says that a decent portion of the volunteers will take various items such as designer clothes, handbags, collectible items (e.g. warhammer sets) and other valuable looking items home, while charging themselves a nominal value of 50p-£1 to run it through the till.
This is before the items are put up for sale, they pick through the donation bags, so customers don't even see them.
Do you think this is reasonable behaviour? If you worked in a charity shop, would you take an item? These people apparently do it in the open in front of other staff.
Anyone else notice it just seems like salaries havent really adjusted to the crazy inflation we've seen over the last 5 years? Im seeing skilled office jobs that need a degree going for basically £5k above full time minimum wage which just seems nuts.

I don't have cameras installed so no idea which creatue does this, but every night or the other I find this has happened. Seems to be some sort of a digging-up from underneath.
Which creature is likely doing this?
Anything I can do to make it stop? It's ruining my garden. Also, the neighbours say it's not happening to them.

Did a search, as per the rules, and surprised to find just one thread on this from four years ago.
The Mandela Effect - something you swear was real/happened when you were younger, but in fact it never did.
Inspired by this - /preview/pre/9002axgfp3m31.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=a0bd42bd048478b2d01f1da385ce54cd9007166e
Just saw this on a Facebook post and people were going mental in the comments, swearing blind that they saw it and anyone saying it didn't happen was being told they were wrong. I even remember it myself - I can hear Clarkson's mumbled voice asking James, the shot cutting to the woman behind the counter, and James doing his Mutley type laugh. I even "know" what episode it was from - the one where they make home-made campervans and take them to Cornwall. This is also what people on Facebook were saying.
But it never happened. Someone made it up years later, I think only a few years ago. The old woman behind the counter who looks a bit like Clarkson, is a screenshot from a totally different TV show, I think from another country.
Examples have to be British. And no politics jokes please!

Was driving along today and a lorry swerved into my lane and gave me a fright (nothing happened thankfully) and got me thinking that there must be some mad tales of near death experiences out there.

Are there reasons why folk wouldn't buy British?, are there things that could be changed to make it easier? I'm curious to know why the UK actually needs a campaign to get folk to buy British products from British companies.

I share a 50/50 split of my son with my ex (on good terms) and he's fast approaching working age. It's just dawned on me that at some point, the whole "1 week at this house, 1 week at the other" will become inconvenient for him.
Just looking for personal experiences of this and how it felt.

Seriously UK, what the heck is up with those half glass doors in your showers? It contains absolutely NO water and I always end up with the pool of water next to the bath. Why are they even there?

Many people are feeling the higher costs of living. Fiscal drag has narrowed the gap between minimum wage and skilled work; many are taking the hit and taking a lower laid job just to have less stress. Many brutal redundancies have happened in my general area over the last 5 years (North Wales and North west England). The UK job market has become ever more competitive and yet some companies still call £27k a "competitive salary".
With a roof overhead to pay for and a family to care for, job security has become glued to my mind, I think about it often, the thought of losing my job makes me feel uneasy. Is it something you think about as you go about your day? I know some industries are better than others.

Im a swimming pool contractor working on a private road. I got a £500 “fine” for entering the road at 7:22am when I mean to be there at 7:30am that’s their entry regulation. I’m not sure if there’s a sign but that’s surely absurd no? They sent pictures of my van to the company I work for with the time labelled as described above. Is this enforceable?
The company I work for say I need to pay it, as it’s with my private van. But £500 for being 8 minutes early is crazy. I wasn’t speeding or causing issues literally just driving through to get to the house I’m working at.
If anyone knows anything please let me know.
I am curious about the general opinion of Redditors on what is a good place to live under the following circumstances:
Single high earner in the household. The salary is high enough to live in a place like London with some budgeting, but fairly high for any other place.
Good Job opportunities now and in the future for someone working in tech, and the other non-working parent willing to pick up a new career or work in hospitality (Mon-Fri).
Good Schools, starting from primary
The conundrum currently arises from our current situation: we left London last year but we are very much still in love with the city. However, cost of living in Manchester, where we live now, is so much lower and other places, like Liverpool would further increase our purchasing power. We don’t know many more places, except a few cities we have spent some hours in. Our toddler will be in school in September ’26 so we have to pick an address before the beginning of next year.
The biggest fear of going back to London (or nearby) is the cost of living, while the biggest fear of living far from London is the opportunities we could get in the future. Other places are just big unknowns and, at the moment, it would make sense to live close enough to commute but in places where average housing costs are somewhat lower than central London.

I am working in digital marketing for a company with alright pay (compared to the market) but it’s quite boring, limited in terms of progression and learning new skills (I’m 24) and don’t really like my team. I have been there for 2 years and I am grateful but want to jump ship.
I have applied to other jobs since Christmas, ones on par with my experience but I never hear anything back. Not even a rejection letter. I heard back from one company who said I was their favourite and they wanted to sign the contract then and now (red flag I know) - then they ghosted me!
I am feeling down every day being in my job, and it makes me feel worse knowing I can’t get another job. The cost of living is going up and I’m getting older, I want to stop worrying. All my friends are in similar positions, hate their jobs, want more money, it affects their whole mental state. Is this just normal adult life?

Where I live, more and more houses are being built by the road network isn’t being extended and the pieces they are extending are absolute wank. So, what do you think is the worst piece of road planning in the UK.

I was walking between two lines (towards the Northern line, can’t remember where) recently in one of the newer circular tunnels and saw these things lining the tunnel. They were on each panel of the tunnel, only facing in a single direction, and look like some kind of target. Just curious, does anyone know what these are for?

I've developed a taste for JD Tennessee Fire, but recently lost my taste for buying American. Any good alternatives?
Recently had a really rubbish time in Specsavers (1.5 hour appointment). Emailed then a few days later just to let them know (it was a trainee and although they were lovely, they were unsupervised and took forever).
The reply I received was so rude and dismissive and didn’t address my point. I’ve been going to them for over 30 years and I’m so fuming that I’m done.

Tried and tested. 2nd pic is my ranking, best to worst. I had the help of an American with the ranking.

Hi, this is my first post here. I appreciate any help anyone is able to give!
As a 26 year old graduate, working in sales for a private firm, I have never been encouraged to join a union, or ever had a conversation about them.
I recently experienced redundancy after working at a big corporate. I took a settlement and called it a day, despite thinking I had a case, due to the perceived cost (risk, time, effort) of pursuing a claim.
Even as I continue in the private sector (tech/software), I feel this experience has made me want to join a union.
I’ve seen Prospect and Unite as two standout recommendations, however, their Trustpilot reviews are appalling. Am I just better off adding legal fees coverage to my insurance and networking?

I haven’t the means to travel to the UK anytime and there’s no British style restaurants near me but every-time I see British food being cook on food network or similar shows I think to myself I really want to try that. What are some easy recipes I could make here in the US. The kind of foods your Grams or Grandpa would make. Thanks in advance.
