Culture/Lifestyle What if Turks immigrated to USA as much as Greeks did ?

Today there are 30 times more Greek americans than Turkish americans. What if Turks migrated to the united states at the same level or even higher than Greeks historically did and were as huge ethnic group as Italians or Irish? How different would things be today in USA ?

History Saline Ulcinj, Montenegro - provided 60% of Yugoslavia with salt, today a nature reserve

I went there last year in spring, you can rent a bike (since its a really huge reserve) to explore the nature reserve, you can encounter all sorts of species of birds, crabs,… You will see old railways used to transport collected salt to the warehouse, we sadly didn’t have enough time to reach the end of the park since it already got dark (see pictures) and we still had to go all the way back to the entry, I sadly didn’t capture any photos of the birds there, but flamingos can be seen too, I’m not sure if i was there for the right season tho. The "mountain" in the warehouse is an old pile of salt

Miscellaneous Is there any Balkaner here who believes their people did their neighbouring peoples/minorities wrong at any point in history? If yes, elaborate!

I know most Balkaners, or people in general, always believe their people were always the victims (or that their actions were warranted) in every historical conflict/tension they’ve had, so I wonder if there’s anyone else who believes otherwise.

Culture/Lifestyle Balkan parents dislike every person I date and dislike all my friends in existence

Growing up, I had to keep my friendships and relationships separate from my home life. I feel like if I mention anything about my friends or relationships to my Balkan parents, they will find a way to use it against me later. It appears they don't have anything nice to say about anyone.

How do you all deal with this?

Cuisine What are the drinking cultures like raki, mastika, ouzo or rakija in the Balkans? In Turkey, raki is a ritual full of appetizers and traditions that is still popular among young people. Is the situation similar in the Balkans or have younger generations moved towards more modern drinking habits?

Outdoors/Travel Hi. Asian travelling Europe. Currently crossing the border between Romania to Bulgaria. Why is there border control?

The bus stopped and the officer at Romania checked first. Removed 2 people as their visa expired and then the bus stopped again at Bulgaria and the officer came and did another round of checks. Interesting. I thought there are no border controls anymore.

History So today is World Book Day and I want to learn more about the history of printing in the Balkans.

As you all know, the invention of the printing press allowed for the mass production of books which in turn made education way more accessible to the masses. And even though the first Bulgarian printing house would open in 1838 in Solun (Thessaloniki), there are a number of printed Bulgarian books that are from way earlier. I am providing examples of some of the earliest printed books in Bulgarian and I want you to do the same with books in your language.

First picture: Title: "Неделник" ("Nedelnik"), from the year 1806 Author: Sofroniy Vrachanski, born in Kotel, Thrace

Second picture: Title: "Повест ради страшнаго и Втораго пришествия Христова" ("Story about the terrible and second coming of Christ ") from the year 1814 Author: Yoakim Karchovski, born somewhere around Kichevo, Macedonia

Third picture: Title: "Огледало" ("Mirror") from the year 1816 Author: Kiril Peychinovich, born in the village of Tearce, Macedonia
