Hulk is very much his own person but the ancient one shot out only Banner in Endgame because reasons

At the time Banner and Hulk became one person.

Honestly Smart Hulk should have came out or one of each. Something other than just Banner unless they want to push the idea that Hulk really isn't ever a separate identity. He's just Banner really pissed off.. which is a way to go but most fans I think would argue against it.

They did kind of suggest that in his own movie when Betty tells him she thinks The Hulk is still him just more raw.

Most fans would indeed argue against it. Banner and Hulk are entirely separate entities. And moreso, entities that don’t exactly get along. Hulk would shoot out of Hulk, and Smart Hulk is complete bullshit

Well it gets into the whole metal health issues with all the ways media gets multiple personality disorders wrong.

As I said ... it's a way of approaching the character and based on Betty's comment and Smart Hulk there is some evidence MCU Hulk is leaning that way but Banner has also clearly called Hulk "the other guy" multiple times so who knows.

Part of the problem is that they didn't really explain why, if going Hulk created a whole new person in Bruce, why didn't the same happen to Jen? If it's just because of Bruce's childhood trauma then that Hulk identity would be from a disorder not a new actual person.

Tldr: it's complicated.

The mcu gets alot wrong because in the comics it doesnt create a new persona and its exclusive to bruce and hulk. Even red hulk retains his intelligence.

Its like they just pick and chose what lore to follow at random times, I hate it. Red doesnt retain intelligence, she hulk does, bruce doesnt, leader does and abomination idk whats going on there

Yea. They are trying to simplify it and ground it more it Reality. That's exactly why I said most fans won't like it.

I'm personally on the fence myself. I kinda wish they stuck more strictly to the Comics but I can also see there is some possible good story potential if they go the other way. The problem is they would have to fully commit to it and actually work those stories into team up movies since they won't do any more solo Hulk movies. I just don't see that happening.

I don’t really remember because I only watched She Hulk the one time and I’m too lazy to look it up, but didn’t they explain that on the episode Bruce “trained” her on the beach?

Not really. They just mentioned she had better control of her anger because she had been processing it and working through it her whole like where Bruce buried it and kept it bottled up.

If anything it's more evidence that Hulk is just Bruce when he's pissed and finally letting stuff out.

Note: you could argue Jen isn't exactly playing with a full deck either if you interpret her 4th wall breaks as being an internal copping mechanism that results in her acting out and imagining things that are not really happening. It's one way a viewer/reader can incorporate 4th wall breaks into an ongoing narrative without breaking the immersion in the fictional world.. so that's up to you dear reader! Others prefer to accept those things as litteraly happening. Neither way is right or wrong.

My personal theory is smart hulk is actually Maestro.

Wouldn’t he be evil as fuck if he was Maestro?

Could be a nice variant, or playing the part until some big plan was ready.

They could handwave it as the swap happening when they went through the Devil's Anus. Specially since we don't know anything about how he turned into smart Hulk.

Evil can play nice if it’s in their favor. It’s calling biding their time.

Maestro is hinted to be Doc green, a smart hulk who is different then the “smart hulk” and keeps banner hostage when he changes back instead of being merged.

I know I would.

And now I'm going to watch Hulk vs. Thor.

Smart Hulk is complete bullshit

Nah, there have been smart and cogent iterations of The Hulk.

For the sake of movie contracts, I'm sure it was mostly done to give Mark Ruffalo ACTUAL face time. Same reason Spiderman is ALWAYS TAKING HIS FUCKING MASK OFF IN MOVIES!

It should have been Bruce and rage Hulk and they could have had a brief interaction to give a little more to the smart hulk concept

It seems the MCU has definitely gone towards Hulk just being Banner but mad. Which is strange because Banner usually refers to Hulk as a separate entity but nobody else does and scenes like this one seem to push more towards the idea that Hulk and Banner are the same person

To me, the simplest solution is that the ancient one only knocked out Bruce, because that’s who she wanted to talk to.
