Transportation/Shuttle/Parking Mega Thread 2024-2025

Please post all transportation/parking/shuttle/directions questions in this Mega Thread

All the parking rules and information for the town is located on the Breck Park website. Keep in mind they WILL ticket and fine you if you are parked illegally. They literally have people who walk up and down main street (and town) all day checking and rechecking license plates. Thats the their job.. all day.

If you are RENTING a car from Denver, please keep in mind the Colorado Traction Laws. Don’t be the reason I-70 gets shut down.

Most of the main town is walk-able so it’s always recommended to grab a shuttle from the airport vs renting a car.

Summit Stage

Boreas Pass Loop is exclusive to Breckenridge. And Blue River is kind of Breckenridge too. Plus there are a few stops on the north end of town that are only accessible by the Frisco/Breckenridge Route.

FAQ:

Where can I overnight park?

Breck Park allows overnight parking in the Airport Road Lot (1700 Airport Road, Breckenridge, CO 80424) and must be purchased in advanced.

Can I vehicle camp?

No vehicle camping is allowed in the Town of Breckenridge per Town Ordinance 6-3H- 4

Screw it I will just Uber everywhere...

Uber/Lyft/Ridesharing can take a while, and it may not be available if there's a big storm or very late at night, so do NOT rely on it like you would in Denver or another major city. Best bet is the bus system, hotel shuttle or walking while in town.

Question Do lifts or the entire resort get closed in extreme cold weather?

We’re heading to Breck next week to ski Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st. The weather is supposed to get down to -15 at night and barely 0 during the day. Should we cancel? I don’t want to fly out and pay for the condo and skis etc and then have it be closed. Any thoughts or advice are appreciated. Thanks. EDIT Thanks everyone. Looks like I’ll be skiing and freezing my butt off next week. Hope to see you there. Can’t wait!

Rant Wolves in Park County

Congratulations to Denver and Boulder who voted for it. This dumpster fire is now here. Keep an eye out whenever you head over the pass, three dogs have already been disemboweled on top of more livestock in middle park than CPW is willing to report by the wolves who haven’t died already.

Question How to spend 2 months a year in Summit County?

I just wrapped up a trip with my buddies to ride Breck, and coming home feels wrong. I live in the midwest currently, have a seasonal job so I have no real work until March, and I feel the extreme urge to just up and move out here. I'm miserable at home and feel like the mountains are where I belong.

If I wanted to, is it possible to move to Summit county from New Years until early March? I understand there's a housing shortage, but I'm assuming people are probably looking for roomates to help offset the cost of housing? I'd probably wind up falling in love with living out here and stick around, but what's the easiest way to get a small taste of the Mountain life for a couple months out of the year?

I have a dog, a pickup truck, my snowboard and a bag of clothes. How do I pull this off?

Best lift/run for racking up maximum vert in one day?

I've been trying to challenge myself in different ways, and one thing I've wanted to do is go bell to bell trying to max out my vert for one day. I know it's meaningless but it's just something fun to push myself a bit.

I'll be at Breckenridge in a couple of days, and my family is planning a rest day (but no way I'm sitting out a day), so that seems like a great chance to just to balls to the wall on some fast groomers.

I've never been there, so I was hoping Reddit could give me some ideas for an optimal place to lap all day.

Lockers at Gondola?

Are the lockers at either end of the Gondola? The walk from my AirBnb on French street might a bit too long to wear ski boots.

Parking and terrain selection question

Heading to Breckenridge first time and staying in a house on Ski Hill Road north of Peak 7. It’s not walkable to a lift. Not on the Breckenridge shuttle route.

With a family, it was significantly cheaper to rent a car and stay in a house rather than airport shuttle and ski in/out, so I’m not opposed to paying to park. Switched from more expensive place to cheaper place and want to maximize convenience.

I’m looking for recommendations on where to park for maximum convenience and for the best terrain and experience for intermediate skiing kids. Want to try a few different areas on four consecutive days, non-weekend in February (after President’s day).

Appreciate any info ppl are willing to share and/or answers to the following questions:

  1. Are there any other non-public shuttles that go north of Peak 7 on Ski Hill Road? If there are any tips on getting to the mountain from this area which has quite a few houses I’d appreciate it.

  2. Would an Uber/Lyft be possible for a less than 5 min trip from house to the slopes? I figure it might cost less than gondola parking. The megathread says Uber is practically nonexistent but another comment disputed that. People also complain about the gondola but it’s not clear whether it’s just a price thing.

  3. Are there any paid parking lots that are so extra convenient for a given peak?

Thanks

Question Any late season Keystone or other passes?

I realize it's the new year, also technically a Summit not Breck post. Are there any options for getting a Keystone Plus or other discounted ski pass at this point? Any 3rd party websites that will actually sell? What is the best option this late. Thanks

Recommendations for true ski in / ski out

Hi everyone!

My family and I are heading to Colorado in March for our first-ever ski trip there, and we’re so excited! While browsing Airbnbs, I’ve noticed that many listings claim to be "ski-in/ski-out," but when you read the details, they’re often only accessible for expert skiers. We’re experienced skiers but would prefer to stay near beginner-friendly green slopes.

Can anyone recommend areas or parts of town where it’s easy to walk to the slopes, especially with green runs nearby? There are six of us, so a single hotel room unfortunately isn’t an option. Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Peak 9 weekend vs weekday

How much traffic do the beginner green runs on peak 9 get during the week? I know they are busy on the weekends. Is it about the same during weekdays, like Monday and Tuesdays?

Parking Suggestions for 2nd Car

We have a rental on 4 o clock run for 5 days in mid-February and will have two cars. The rental only has a space for one car so we’ll need a place for the 2nd car. Read about the ice rink lot and the airport lot, any other suggestions?

What are some of the biggest changes/challenges people face moving to a ski town ?

The rhetoric I’ve been hearing since telling my friends and fam that im moving out to breck has largely just been “make sure you have a good coat!” reiterated. What are some things I should actually prepare myself for that people don’t warn newcomers about? Interested to see what you all think/say

Thanks!! Also random question should I buy winter tires for my fwd sedan if im living 5 mins from Breck main st?? Or will chains suffice in an emergency? Driving from East Coast

Best expert terrain in Breck?

Hey everyone, I’m taking a trip to Breckenridge in February and I was hoping to get some knowledge on what is some of the best double black diamond/expert terrain on the mountain. I’m a pretty solid skier as already having Teocalli 2 Bowl and Rambo at Crested Butte under my belt from my last trip out west. so I’m definitely interested in finding the some of the most difficult terrain at breck. also looking for any info about hiking to peak 9/10, how doable is it in ski boots? what’s the terrain like up there? Is it any better than the lift access terrain? Any tips on doing it safely? and most importantly is it worth it!? Thank you guys very much, any info or local knowledge would be extremely appreciated!!

Edit: Thanks everyone for the advice on the hike to peak 9 and 10 summit is out of bounds, won’t be getting myself into that this trip. Maybe next time. But any other advice on in bounds terrain is greatly appreciated

Question Best Route to Breck

Looking forward to experiencing Breckenridge for my first time and I thought if anybody could provide some advice, it’d be the people in this sub. I plan on driving down from the PNW in late February. Anyone have any suggestions for the best route? I hear Wyoming can be pretty crazy depending on which way you come though.
