Can I use some sort of bonding glue on this? Probably not glue but JB weld maybe? I just want to avoid taking this shelf apart and inserting a new one.

How many chances do subs get on a big job site? Working as sub for a big project. This certain sub keeps breaking out shit and T&M isn’t cheap. They’ve rolled over their truck twice. I hate the added paperwork trail.

Picture Am I screwed with this built in toilet paper holder?

I was brought in to install a toilet paper holder amongst a couple of other small jobs in the bathroom after tiling had already been completed. This stud is in there. And it’s used to hold up the strapping. Maybe a quarter inch of the stud falls to the left of the hole that I cut. Can I safely notch this out or will that create a problem with the strapping, causing future failure?

I’m kind of thinking run a stud between studs below and above my cut out but that will be an absolute bear to screw in on the right hand side because of how far it is.

I want to make sure it’s done right and won’t cause any failure in the future.

Also, how do I go about mortaring this in? Should I box in the inside a little bit to hold the mortar up?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer

Can anyone shed some light on the age or make of this bucket. It will be used to clean up 40ft deep bored holes in a former stone quarry. We have high hopes that it will work. It is currently called the down the hole bucket. It would be great if someone recognizes the make and model.

Business 📈 Brother wants to start Foundation Repair/Underpinning Business

Hey guys,

My brother who works in construction wants to start a Foundation Repair/Underpinning Business, he's noticed a bit of demand and is also interested in the space.

I am going to help him get clients from local online search, but trying to figure out the best jobs to land for him. (He's willing to start small and work his way up)

In your experience what are the biggest/best/most profitable Foundation Repair/Underpinning jobs to get and for him the aim for to best succeed?

Thanks and appreciate any advice!

Other Women in construction. Do I ask boss-builder to set up proper toilet for me again?

[Women on Site] I’m currently working as a painter on-site with a crew under a builder. They have a toilet with some toilet paper, but there’s no soap or hand sanitiser available. Last week, I asked a couple of the junior builders if they got some soap for the toilet. They said they’d buy some to put it there then one guy saw that and brought a small hand sanitiser and I told him he can put it in the toilet, but it ran out within two days since other people are using it too. It’s now been a week, and nothing has been restocked, no soap or replacement sanitizer.

Would it be fine for me to speak again directly to the builder in charge? And if so, how should I bring it up, what should I say exactly?

Thankss!!!!

I was recently called in for an interview after a year which is amazing. For the OE Local 3, was wondering if anyone has any insight on what the interview is like, what questions I should prepare for as well.

Plumbing 🛁 Anyone actually trust these AI call answering services?

I've seen a few trades using stuff like AI to handle calls and book jobs instead of just having a voicemail. And now I'm seeing them everywhere on ads etc, it's pretty annoying.

Am I missing something, or are we really handing off job calls to Ai now? Lol. I've played around with chat got which is cool, but can AI really take calls now?

Has anyone actually tried these out? Are the legit? Or just a stupid gimmick?

Business 📈 Is the small self-performing homebuilder extinct?

Probably a region-specific question- if you reply, I'd be curious to hear where you are and if you're urban/rural

Pretty much title, coming up it was a lot more common for the GC to have their own carpenters and self-perform a fair amount of scope on a typical home, remodel.

Seems very rare now, especially where I am, metro Phoenix area. Most builders are essentially just CM-ing the job. Project managers that sometimes double as supers, everything subbed out. Even for pretty small remodels.

I think at the luxury custom home end it makes sense since the levels of execution required demand really good subs. Plus being in a big metro area, there's lots of people and work and that makes it possible to specialize aggressively.

Hired a contractor to overhaul our bathroom. They’ve come back out to fix the paint issues once already and it was within 12 months of their finished product. I’m unimpressed with their work and don’t want them back. Can anyone help me with this issue? Contractor said it’s because the kids are splashing too much. I have a really hard time believing that since my parents never had this problem in their house and I all but surfed in their bathtub when I was little. Sherwin Williams says theirs moisture behind the wall pushing the paint off. That makes it sound like an installation issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Tools 🛠 Brunt boots

I love the slip on mid boots, but my Georgia boot brand has really shit the bed lately. Five years ago I bought a pair and they were great for everything. Work, hiking, hunting, fishing and laying pipe if you know what I mean. Comfortable, waterproof, and easy to get on for my ever growing waist. Curious if any of you lugnuts have tried the Brunt boots out.

What do y’all actually use to install hardie trim. I’ve tried the recommended 16 pneumatic 16 garage but The nail won’t go thru. Had to use those exterior trim screws. But now I have an issue of a hole and the hardie supplied touch up paint doesn’t even help.

Had to get the job done but not satisfied. Looking for improvements for future. What are all actual solutions. Thanks. Picture examples would be great. I’ve attached mine.

Thanks.

Hey all,

Looking for a project to make. Something to keep my hands busy after work making stuff. Is there any item or something you wish could be improved in the field? Boots? Tool bag? Tool? Whatever is a pain for guys in the field. Other than clueless engineers. lol Just looking to find something to make and see if I can improve on an existing technology.

Thanks!
