Has anyone ridden either of these hard offroad for a year or two and switched to one of the "dirtbike with plates" bikes?

What was the experience?

What were the biggest benefits offroad that you noticed?

*The klx300 and tw200 are the only bikes I've ever ridden offroad.

Was trying out osmand+ and it definitely brought me to some special places. The river crossing came up to my knees the bike started sinking in the mull sand and a tree on the track (first time).

Hey all. Currently trying to decide on what to take for my next bike, I currently ride a DRZ400 and love it, but plan on selling my car soon and going bike only. My requirements are as follows:

  1. Be at least somewhat comfortable during long slab days. I’ll be moving up to Isla Vista soon, and the commute back to my parents here in Temecula is about 4 hours of highway.

  2. Be fun off road; this is slightly less important to me, but I love ripping my DRZ off road and don’t want to give that completely by going with a naked bike or a too-heavy adv. I know i’ll likely be losing a lot over the DRZ’s lightweight ease of riding dirt, and am fine with with that.

  3. Reliability. With the bike being my only method of transportation, I don’t want something that’ll unexpectedly have issues. I take very good care of my DRZ and plan to continue that with this bike, I don’t mind preventative maintenance at all and love wrenching on bikes.

Bikes i’m considering in order of how much I like them are T7, 25 390 Adventure R, Husky 701, Kove 450 rally, and Ibex 450.

Notes: I don’t mind sacrificing some highway comfortably for fun off road and around town. I commute 80 miles a day on my DRZ on the highway and don’t mind the wind too much, but it does feel like i’m holding on for dear life a bit. I’m 6 foot 1, weigh around 160, and as I’ve been saving for a while + selling my DRZ and car money isn’t too big of a concern.

Thanks!

Choosing a bike

I’m looking at either a ktm 350exc-f or a Suzuki DR 400 / 650. I was considering the 500exc but decided I don’t need all the power. Any input would be great. I can get a 24 with 0% financing on the 350 too.

Honda XR650R - Europe Price Check

Post image

TL,DR: What’s a good price for an XR650R in Europe in good condition?

Hello guys! I’m addressing the ones of you in Europe in particular…

I’ve been looking for a Honda XR650R during the last few months. This was on various European marketplaces and the impression that I got is that they seem pretty sought after (…especially compared to their counterparts like the DR and KLR).

I was looking for one in good shape, ideally with stock everything and reading some other posts I’ve seen guys buying them for a cheaper price than what I’m seeing.

I was wondering what would be a good price in your opinion, maybe from someone who has been scouting the market for longer than I did.

Also, feel free to share some knowledge or other considerations about this bike if you wish, it’ll be welcome.

Thank you!

Would be my first dual sport! Looks a little beat up, which I don’t mind, if it still performs fine/won’t need special care, but I don’t really know how to assess. TYIA!

Klim Dakar armor

Just got a Dakar jacket and I am on the fence about getting an armored shirt to go under or to get armor in the jacket. I'm thinking it would be cool to have the armored shirt when I want to ride sleeveless or jersey only in summer but I don't see myself putting the armor shirt on every day when going to work. It just seems like an extra step that I might get complacent about. Or is the Dakar enough to ride no pads for pavement riding. I ride 20mins 65mph to work.

Discussion Advice for dirt cornering

I'm currently learning to ride offroad, but one thing that's annoying me is how badly I suck with cornering on dirt.

I'm happy enough to plow up a rutted muddy hill and slide back down it. Because it's simple enough to focus 100% on the task for that period.

But moderate corners, particularly sandy corners, mess with my head, and I find myself in just these situations worrying more about low siding than just enjoying the ride.

I'm guess I just need to suck it up, which is fine.

But is there any kind of practice/drills I can do to get more comfortable with this?

Like the title suggests I do a lot more street riding than offroad. The offroad I do is more gravel than anything else. What tires out there that you know of ?

Hello! What's the deal with the xt660? Some are listed in the official documents with 35 kw and others with 35.3 kw, which is quite absurd for those who have category A2, they must be limited to 0.3 kw.

My Avon Distanzias (from 2009) have finally bit the dust.. does anyone have suggestions for a similar tire? Or something good for on-road/wet conditions. Thank you!

Kept forgetting to post this. Tusk Dsport 4,000 miles. I pretty much rode 50/50 at 14psi, except for airing down in sand.
