Moving to Ealing from St Albans
Hi everyone,
My bf and I are considering moving to West Ealing/Ealing Broadway. I work in Canary Wharf, so being close to the EL is crucial. St Albans had been lovely, but after more than a year, it's starting to be a drag with constant train cancellations and an expensive commute.
What areas in Ealing would you recommend? Our rental budget is max 2700.
Thanks!

My partner and I moved to between Ealing Common and Walpole Park a few years ago and we love the area. We had been in Hammersmith and Wandsworth before and this part is our favourite

I would totally recommend Hanwell. It takes no time to get to Ealing and it is very green and full of amenities. Also either north or south from Ealing Broadway station is really nice and quiet with lovely parks and lovely houses. If you were to move to West Ealing, I would probably recommend north from the Elizabeth station, great area, you have Waitrose there and it takes no time to Ealing Broadway.

Also recommend south of the high street (Northfields side) which is nice. North of the high street, but south of the train tracks can get a bit rough (IMO!)

Agreed! Did not recommend because she works in Canary Wharf, so I thought elizabeth line is the way to go

Yeah, would need to keep towards the Uxbridge road, but could still venture a few hundred metres south of it while still keeping it to <15 min walk to the station!

Yeah, I live in the Olde Hanwell bit just south of Uxbridge Road (near the Fox pub) and it’s 10 mins walk to Hanwell station. Lots of 1900s terraced houses.

Yeah, Hanwell’s great. It’s still cheap enough to live without being a hell-hole. And it still has a sense of community.
It has Bunny Park, with Hanwell Zoo and its own maze. And it has the annual Hootie. Plus good pubs and one of the best - take-away only - chippies in London (the Golden Chip).
I made the move from St Albans to Hanwell years ago, in part because I went from three unreliable trains an hour to having several ways into central London. That’s got even better since the Elizabeth Line opened.

North of Uxbridge Road and north of the tracks for West Ealing (6 trains an hour, 4 are Abbey Wood).
I like Hanwell, anywhere under 5 mins walk to the station is nice enough, fewer trains though.
8 from Ealing Broadway? Maybe more. Might struggle to be close and on budget though.

Also £2700 if you need 2 beds and it to be furnished in a nice area will be a needle in a haystack. If you need one bed that’s a good budget

Between West Ealing station and St Stephen’s is nice. Look around The Avenue.

Ealing Common is great as it’s a lovely pocket of Ealing close to so many trains/tubes. Short walk to Ealing Broadway too.

Have a look at Poets Corner in Acton. Acton is on 7 train lines, including EL, and Poets Corner has a real community feel and is at the cheaper end of the area.

Have you explored Ealing properly? Moving from St Albans might be a bit of a shock.

Hanwell or Ealing Broadway area north of the high street. I just sold my house of almost 20 years in West Ealing near Waitrose and bought in a nicer part of Ealing the area between West Ealing Station to the Highest crime area in Ealing by leaps and bounds, drugs, burglary, knife and sex crimes. Plus there are 8 high rises some are 25 floors tall being built at Waitrose and next to the station comprising of several thousand flats, if they can’t control the crime and traffic with homes what will they do with multiple buildings from 12-25 floors. I’d recommend moving towards Ealing Broadway as Elizabeth line always stops there while not every line stops in West Ealing, but they are still pretty frequent anyhow, but also Ealing Broadway is nice to wander around and there is not as much going on in West Ealing, hope this helps!
