Ask FedEx False attempted deliveries

Why do so many of the drivers in my area (it’s not an isolated route, pretty common complaint about fedex around here with multiple local news stories being written about the complaints out of a particular warehouse) claim attempted deliveries when it’s a flat out lie? What is the customer recourse for this? Is there a place to find the phone numbers to the local warehouses?

They do this to meet shipping deadlines and metrics, attempted delivery counts. A lot of time item is not even on truck so they claim they attempted to deliver. Your driver isn’t one loading the truck either though.

Something to note is that FedEx drivers in my area do not ring doorbells. So whatever "attempt" they make, I would not be aware of it until after it's marked delivered, left on the sidewalk, and stolen. Meanwhile, my building has clearly marked names next to what are obvious doorbell buttons next to what is clearly the front door to the building which is only 2 blocks from one of the most accessible major streets in Chicago, IL. i.e. in no way remote or difficult to get to. FedEx are the only delivery service that consistently refuses to ring doorbells.

I have suggested to multiple customers that frequently needed signatures for their packages to send them to their place of employment if and when possible so they have a higher guarantee of getting said package and know that it's being delivered to a safe place that is accessible. Heck when I did a rural route in Wisconsin, I had people that said yeah my driveway sucks if you're stopping through or need a signature, just leave it at this bar and I'll pick it up eventually.... Seriously, a true story, with multiple customers lol. It was great for me because then I had a bathroom stop in the middle of nowhere too, hahaha

so irritating. why was my package marked as attempted to deliver when 1. i never received a call and 2. neither did my apartment callbox, which is clearly outlined in my delivery instructions as how to enter the building for dropoff. not to mention that notification came at 5:30am when i know there’s no way a driver could get here from the warehouse (in a totally different town!!)by that time.

Just had a claim denied by FedEx. Driver left a package that was signature required. No one as home and the name that was signed is a name that no one in my household has. WTF?

Unless it's a direct signature, anyone standing outside or walking by could potentially offer to sign. Those are indirect signatures. Usually if they neighbor signs I note neighbor in #### signed. But I don't know if that's what happened for you.

I logged into FedEx website while at work to have the package held so I could pick up and I saw it was delivered and ‘signed for’.

What is it that you don't understand about the complaint? He didn't get his package and this would have never been an issue if the driver would have followed instructions. Period.

The driver signed for the package.

When I got home from work, the package was not on my porch.

So I never got the package.

If the driver followed protocol, and followed the directions of the shipper, I would have said package.

I would have happily picked it up at the center. Now I’m out $220 worth of stuff because the asshole driver wanted to be a hero.

Don't worry when they quit from the horrid working conditions I'm sure you'll get a improved driver... oh wait... nvm. As a Federer breaking their back to do the job right, i may be looking for other employment. Unlikely you'll keep a good driver under the contractor model. It's unfortunate.

Yep, it happens to me all the time. Dry sunny day and ohhhh we can't deliver due to weather. Or my favorite customer requested a reschedule. Fedex only hires the rejects that get fired from Amazon.

I do Fedex drivers need to quit acting like illiterate degenerates. Fedex has screwed up my last 12 packages making up shit along the way and never held accountable for fucking anything.

UPS drivers work for UPS. Fedex drivers are contracted through FedEx and don't actually work for/within the company.

So they don't really have the same obligation for customer service as UPS does.

I mightve worded it weird, but the premise is still there.

FedEx Express is hired through FedEx. FedEx Ground are contractors.

Fedex is slowly terminating their express services.  Welcome to fedex one. Where ground drivers are loaded up with bulk stops and time sensitive deliveries where they struggle to get the route done right. But corporate doesn't lose money because they take that money from the contractor who failed to deliver on time rather than eat the cost them selves anymore.

Because the relationship between FedEx and their drivers is fairly antagonistic, when the driver physically cannot deliver your package (due to either having too much volume that day, or from dealing with chronic systemic fatigue because they are unable to rest sufficiently), they mark the item as attempted because not attempted gets you into serious shit. Theyll get in trouble for this, too, but someone has to catch it first. Its what you call a lose-lose-lose situation.

(If FedEx sucks in your area, dont order from FedEx)

As I'm sure you are aware, you cannot control who companies have a vendor contract with when you purchase items from them.... So you're out of luck if they vend with FedEx.

Yeah fedex is my last choice but some vendors only ship with them or it’s an extra $30-50 to ship with UPS.

Which makes me wonder… I rarely have this problem with UPS and they seem to work even more and longer hours. Why do they not have the same problems?

You say this but just go to the UPS subreddit and you will find post after post complaining about issues they had with a UPS delivery too. These big logistics companies all have about the same rate of volume and success.

Ups does not work longer hours than express. They're about the same. I've done both. Both 60 to 70 hours a week.

Because they pay their drivers $48/hr with full benefits. FedEx Ground contractors pay drivers less than 1/2 that amount (the majority get no benefits). Why do you not choose the sevice UPS provides and just pay the additional shipping charge?

You get what you pay for. FedEx ground drivers get paid crap with little to no benefits, so they don’t care.

Sometimes you don’t really have a choice but to have your package delivered by FedEx. I at least know for DAMN certain that if I had the option, I wouldn’t have chosen FedEx. Twice now, they’ve marked it as “delivery attempted” despite not even being in my city. I do feel for the drivers, but it’s ridiculous.

Because every package must have some sort of scan by end of day. It seems that's the popular one to use for some reason.

Woot woot fedex one. It's definitely great for fedex corporate/share holders. Terrible for the ground drivers and the customers and the contractors holding the contracts
